  • I didnt know about IWAKUNI....Just ,I wanted to know IWAKUNI `s background....i am very glad.....Thank you for taking a video. I am interesting about Iwakuni Marines peoples...I like them.

  • Yeah, Great video. I was there in 79. I jonesed for home way too much when I was there, but I loved the place. Remember the american Pizza place just out in town a little. Ken's Pizza? Space Invaders and Ken's Pizza. The Tomadachi club. The Cherry Blossom festival. A trip to mineral caverns, somewhere. And I'll never forget how hard it rained during monsoon season.

  • They tore down the Tomdachi Club (T-Club) in 1999-2000. They also tore down the Eagle's Nest (across from teh armory) in 2000. Everything was moved to the new building that housed all the clubs and the new Eagle's Nest. It's closer to the main gate now.

  • I hope when I die I am reincarnated as a Japanese. Freaking love the place and the peeps!!

  • oh and all of the bars and cafes just outside of the main gate. The main gate has been moved since then, miss the bars.

  • Hmmm.......the main gate now takes you out to "four corners", an intersection with all of that. But there are several other gates. Miss it too. Good times!

  • I was stationed there in 1971, remember most of all the cherry blossom festival and trips to Hiroshima and Myajima(sp) island. Finally returned in 2001 or 2002 during the worse rain storm they had in years.

  • Chery Blossom Festival, lots of beer, and Sumo contests. 1980-1983. :):)

  • Good video!I lived in Iwakuni in '89 and '90.Miss it terribly. Didn't wanna go home.Lived off base and used to host gaming weekends, learned ikebana, taught English. What a magical place. Went to Hiroshima a lot. Beautiful!

  • Kevin,

I was Stationed at Base in Iwakuni shi many years ago and returned there on March 25, 2007! Boku wa ima kanashimi wo! I went to Memorial Shrine in Iwakuni shi, koimasu, where I use to meet tomodachi and then go play baseball at near by Elementary School! I miss my Friends....I miss Iwakuni....part of me remains there always! Are you Japanese or were you a child of military family?

    Stay Vivid,

    Densuke (Dan in SC)

  • Awesome Video!!! I lived in Iwakuni as a young boy, not far from the Kintai Bridge. I participated in many festivals on and around the bridge and used to watch the Fourth of July Fireworks from the banks of the river below. This brought back such fond and vivid memories for me of my time in Japan. Thank you for sharing this video!!!
