I so agree with this song. Even in the late 70s, and early to mid 80s...the way he describes things is EXACTLY how it was in my childhood during those years. :) Love this song!
yup babies with Fetal alcohol syndrome and mom's with cancer is a much better world. Oh and daddy and big brother dead in an accident because they didn't have seat belts. Oh how I wish we could go back. Also you morons wouldn't be on youtube to respond to this.
As an aside I love this song and the idea but a few of the lyrics are a bit off. For the top comment to be "It wasn't just a different world, it was a better world" is foolish.
I WAS Born in 1965, and I remember all these things he is talking about. We was always outside untill the street lights came on, and than we had better have our butts in front of the house so we could be seen and counted. Times have changed and we will alway look back on what we had in our younger years. I wish I" could go back in time and stay there for ever.
I think the guy was born in '77 a few years older than me and I'm 30. I was born in a small texas town, he got it right on the water hose, miss those days. Even if some had video games they were simple and didn't keep you glued on the couch for hours a day everyday, like the kids are now. Everyone seemed to have about the same amount of money or things in a simpler way, and still seemed happier. And when you bought something it felt better in your hands, didn't go outdated the following year.
hey im 14 but thats still how we live but it aldepends on were u live were i live that us im mean what the hells a child prolides and my dads truck aint got seat bealts i ride my atv and bike with no healmet my dad beats my ass if i missbehave i dont have any video games my chose and we all ways are out side and the only reason we dont have tryouts for football is because my school wouldnt have anuplayers if we had try out because my school so small hes singing about city kids not country boys
@jimdog1963 Mark Nesler was born in 1961 ... it's the songwriter my friend, not the singer. I love today, but I also miss yesterday ... yes I do
I love this song so much!! I was raised in that different world and it was just wonderful At the time, I didn't know just how great we had it!! Bucky you sing this song just beautifully!!!

the world would be a lot better off if it was still like that. kids are spoiled and given everything. you cant even discipline your kids today. and by letting every kid make the team you just teach them they dont have to work for what they want, cuz some one will just give it to them. and video games and the internet are great but they take a way any social life for kids, let em use that stuff when they are settling down before bed.
everything in this song is true, the belt or two hickory sticks tied together, when out of line. only 3-tv stations, stores closed on sundays, and did drink from a garden hose.. the tv was off at 11pm, every night.. the song speaks the truth. it was a good life. you did the song proud bucky.. we where raised to respect.. not like todays kids...
A15 year old girl holds hands with her 1 year old son. People call her a slut, no one knows she was raped at 13. People call another Guy fat. No one knows he has a serious disease causing him to be overwiegh. People call an old man ugly. No one knew he had a serious injury to his face while fighting for our country in the war. People call a woman bald but they dont know she has cancer. Re-post this if you are against bullying and stereotyping I bet 95% wont do it. Well I did
While I agree that things are certainly different than they were in years past, I can't go so far as to say as things are "Worse off" or things were in fact better say 50 years ago. For example now a days many youths are interested in silly/shallow things such as Jersey Shore and the like. However, now a days gays, minority's and so on are no longer second class citizens (or are at least not discriminated nearly as much). Yes things are different, but is this a bad thing? No.
i'm only 20 years old, but i look at people even my age and shake my head. They don't understand how it was to want to grow up like this, but there was no one outside to play with so i ended up watching t.v. instead. I wish i could go back to when all of this happened and experienced it. I plan to raise my kids with "older" thoughts of playing outside and making real friends. Not facebook friends and video game friends.
Things were so much better when i was a kid. I am almost 31 now and i see the youth of today and just shake my head.I can drive through any neighborhood and its like a ghost town.I never see kids out playing anymore they are all inside with the central air and video games.
I love that line, "ON Sunday all the stores were closed." I've only experienced that once, when I went on a volunteer vacation to a very, very small town, and even the grocery store was closed on Sunday. Loved it.
@dancefan23 The stores are still closed on Sunday in Bergen County , New Jersey . It is a County law Called "blue law" . Only thing open are Supermarkets , convenience stores and Drug Stores .
@viciousbill That is awesome! Yesterday (Sunday) I was in West VA for a train tour through the mountains and all the stores were closed too! What a beautiful thing. Too bad TV makes all of New Jersey look like Jersey Shore and Jerseylicious :( Gross.
@dancefan23 Yeah all people know about New Jersey is the Sopranos , and Jersey Shore . South jersey and areas of Northern Jersey are very nice areas . New Jersey gets a bad rap .
@angelmom3950 I did say that I liked the song with the exception of this verse. I never said it was all bad. I was one of those kids he was talking about who grew up playing outside & drinking from a hose & it was a blast. I am simply pointing out that this song takes sentimentality to an extreme that I can't follow. And I love me some sentimental songs, but this one makes some sweeping generalities in assuming that certain changes were either superfluous or out and out bad, which is silly.
"No childproof lids. No seat belts in cars. Rode bikes with no helmets, and still here we are." Um, no, not all of you are here. That is the whole point of those things moron, kids died. Sorry, I like the song with the exception of this verse. It irks the hell out of me because my uncle, who I never got to know, died as child back in one of those cars that didn't have seat belts.
@spaztron5000 ...people still get killed in cars surrounded by airbags and strapped in with belts,, kids still get killed even wearing helmets and all sorts of padding...if it's your time to go, there's no escape.
Do you remember when George W. Bush was president, when Johny Cash and Bob Hope were still alive? Now we got a black as a president and we got no cash or hope...
Bucky is great this song is his best and he is the ultimate guy. It brings back memories of my teenage years the song and Bucky I only dated long haired boys and if it was 25 years ago Bucky would be a geat guy. Im sure he is now but now I date long haired older men./
@amaleplatypus not anymore, we give them homes, jobs, licenses, vehicles, and let them loose to crash into people, disrespect our values, and murder people.
@amaleplatypus dude your an IDIOT, natives did not sign the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, NOR the Constitution. who ever told you that is a dumbass and more then likely a liberal. and i believe what Julius was getting at was illegal immigrants, yeah their ass needs to be sent back over the border. we have become push overs and let ppl complain about our values and what not, History has been twisted.
@spartan7480 Are you fucking stupid? Read what I post. I didn't say Natives signed the declaration of independence. I simply asked JuliusURVAN if HE THOUGHT that they did.
You're one to insult other people's intelligence when you can't even fucking read, or understand sarcasm. Also, it's impossible to twist history. Unless you have some sort of time machine the rest of the world doesn't know about. Grow the fuck up
@amaleplatypus I never seen someone as childish as you yes u dumb ass it is possible to twist history it's done every day such as that the civil was over slavery it aint. and I am the one to insult your ignorance. and i fucking saw no where in ur statement a fucking ? dumbass haha. history is changed to shut people so they'll stop complaining. for instance Vietnam was lost on our home soil the vietmese never won a conflict it was lost because of political ignorant bastards like yourself.
@spartan7480 Really? I'm ignorant? You can't even spell. I'm well aware of history, I'm currently a history major at Texas State University in San Marcos. I know my history.
However, I will still encourage people to learn proper English/American and know how to communicate before they start learning other things. Before you start preaching, you might wanna make sure you don't come off as a retard.
WOW! This young man is very talented. This song is great, vocals awesome!
He has a Classic sound that is undeniable American. He is gonna go far in the music scene and will no doubt be around for the long haul. He will be a part of the new generation of Classic Country!
I think part of the reason it's a different world is we are not allowed to properly discipline our children so they get away with to much and grow uo to be little spoiled brats.
Saw Bucky live at Bristol Motor Speedway!!! How could you not love this song? I may only be a 13 year old but im a 13 year old that loves to hunt, and fish. I love to go to races, mud boggin and even riddin bikes without a helmet!!! Keep it up Buck!!
this is how my mom raised me and my sister. No staying inside all day, I had horses who kept me entertained... no cable or satelite... nothing that kids have now. I liked growing up like that. Taught me how not to be a selfish brat like the others my age. (21)
42 people must be teenagers thinking this kind of life would be cruel, but in reality, it was the best of times. As we would say, the good times, where people didn't take advantage of other people just to make a quick buck. Oh how I wish times like this would come back. Like this if you think the same!
man love this song i might only be 18 but when ya live in the country and work on cars all day u know the feelin shot me and my freeinds will still ride strait through town in the back of a truck and for fun it aint no tv or internet its eather a fishin pool and a pond or a truck and a mud hole
Ahhhhhhh, nothing like watching a cool video to remember about doing the kind of stuff like we used to do when we were younger. Also reminds me of Tim McGraw's song & video of "Back When" & Mark Wallis' 19-Something video too. I also like talking to family or certain friends & reminnicing to them about the Good Old Days too. What a life that we all had as young boys & girls. Bucky gave us a good song & video to enjoy over & over & over again.
I just love this! This was my childhood...drinkin' water from the hose pipe on hot summer days. (We played outside too) We got our butts whipped when we were bad and on Sundays everything was closed....good times
I love this video and he's a fantastic singer. That said, there is NO way Bucky grew up in the world that I grew up in. We didn't have seat belts and we could ride our bikes downtown, even after dark, without worrying someone would kidnap us. If we did something we shouldn't, there was always someone around who knew our parents' phone numbers and WOULD call. Bucky is way too young for that to be HIS world.
@sapilgrim2299 actually he is old enough to remember those days. He's 33 and that's my age. I remember my sister was riding in our family car and she was one without seatbelt or carseat.
I'm 19 and i still remember having some of these things. i remember being outside until 11 pm and my mom coming out to bring me in and i always asked for 5 more minutes and ended up being out for another 30. Its crazy to think it was so safe for us to just run around and be free. we were out out the crack of sun and were out playing flashlight tag. The stores weren't closed but a lot of them were. I just wish that the kids today would have the same experiences we did
this is some what how I grew up mostly because my father was a marine and taught to survive with out any of this I think the only time I watched TV was maybe after about 8:00
i'm 29 and i remember when the very first nintindo came out.....i was nine and then if you did play it too much it got hot and didnt wanna work right....i remember riding my bike all over the place with no helmet , i remember flipping over the top of a scooter (not the ones with batteries) with out a helmet...had a few scrapes and bumps but i lived......when my son was born (he's 4 now) i remember putting all the plastic covers on the outlets and door nobs....wow things have changed

I'm proud to say my old high school is doing it right and til this day everyone still says the pledge of allegiance every single morning without thinking twice about it. Its schools like mine that make me even more proud to serve as a soldier because it shows they support our great nation and appreciate what the country allows us to do.
If you folks had grown up when the world was this way you'd understand. God,family and country was the pecking order. Simple times simple pleasures.LOL
Okay this song sounds like an older country song and I can not spit it out, just the beginning of this song, the beat and the way he sings it can anybody help me out here LOL
I just love this song! It reminded me of when I grew up . It really brings a big smile to my face and brings back such great memories. Too bad I not younger, wouldn't mind finding Bucky's boots under my bed!
@deerdestroyer2009 They can actually sue for being given detention or suspension. That's illegal for them to that. Haha I know my rights. :) I've had to fight for it.
I grew up like this and I make sure my kids do to. We have the game systems but grades have to be good and chores done. You would think that hate it but they love it! They love marking off their chores---every mark is a little closer to their allowance! I wish he would put out more music!
AAAhhh the old days, we rode in the back of pickup trucks unrestrained usually hanging off the tailgate, rode bikes without helmets, lit fireworks from our hands, used chainsaws without a "blade brake" mowed the lawn barefooted. How did we ever make it this far? THERE WERE NO LAWYERS LYING IN WAITING calling us "VICTIMS!" What you did was YOUR own fault. And what a fun time that WAS. Too bad kids can't experience that now. Makes you be "Accountable" for YOUR own actions!
@enumrob remember this line..... Dad: " well stupid is stupid boy dont know whats going on in that head of yours" lol and we had to be smart or be caught.
Thats the truth but I may be only a teenager but growing up now I am growing around my moms parents. Her dad still takes us on lawn mower rides, we ride in the bed of the trucks with the wind blowing our hair and having a good ol time. I sorta wish I grew up when my mom did lol

i love this song..me and two friends was goin down the road tonight when this song came on and we rolled down the windows turned the raido and song along lol
I imagined this guy to be more than 60.... Im 15 and parents are trying to experiment with parenting on our generation by being overprotective with us. Is it working? NO. Do they think its working? YES. and Id love to see school closed on mondays again!
I often look back nostalgically on childhood. Just yesterday, I was scanning a lot of our pictures into the computer. I love scrapbooking and using the modern technology to my advantage, I often make prints of the originals. <3 I remember when we played outside until it got dark, and your parents called you home. I remember how we used to go in the "woods" around our development. I used to think life was pretty good when I was little. It's funny how much the world changes in a decade.
This was my life!! It was a different world!! This is a great song, it takes me back to Ormond Beach ,FL. I loved your concert in Daytona in October. You put on the best show!!!!
People say the changes in america and around the world are progress but as i see it its just a downward spiral going down the drain. everybody is always worried about something anymore and changes are made for the worse. life would be so much easyer if things started going back to the way things were back in the day where people were thankfull for what they had and everybody wasent so afraid of offending people over nothing. so i say cheers to the good old days and screw evrybody with an agenda.
i remember when my daddy got mad at me and my brothers for playin with the garden hose and sprayin eachother in the summer....... hed always complain cuz "we had a crick right down the road to get cooled off in".... man does this song bring back memories =)
Dam good music and dam good video production!

I love that line, "ON Sunday all the stores were closed." I've only experienced that once, when I went on a volunteer vacation to a very, very small town, and even the grocery store was closed on Sunday. Loved it.
dancefan23 7 months ago
@dancefan23 The stores are still closed on Sunday in Bergen County , New Jersey . It is a County law Called "blue law" . Only thing open are Supermarkets , convenience stores and Drug Stores .
viciousbill 6 months ago in playlist bucky covington
@viciousbill That is awesome! Yesterday (Sunday) I was in West VA for a train tour through the mountains and all the stores were closed too! What a beautiful thing. Too bad TV makes all of New Jersey look like Jersey Shore and Jerseylicious :( Gross.
dancefan23 6 months ago
@dancefan23 Yeah all people know about New Jersey is the Sopranos , and Jersey Shore . South jersey and areas of Northern Jersey are very nice areas . New Jersey gets a bad rap .

@angelmom3950 I did say that I liked the song with the exception of this verse. I never said it was all bad. I was one of those kids he was talking about who grew up playing outside & drinking from a hose & it was a blast. I am simply pointing out that this song takes sentimentality to an extreme that I can't follow. And I love me some sentimental songs, but this one makes some sweeping generalities in assuming that certain changes were either superfluous or out and out bad, which is silly.
spaztron5000 7 months ago
"No childproof lids. No seat belts in cars. Rode bikes with no helmets, and still here we are." Um, no, not all of you are here. That is the whole point of those things moron, kids died. Sorry, I like the song with the exception of this verse. It irks the hell out of me because my uncle, who I never got to know, died as child back in one of those cars that didn't have seat belts.
spaztron5000 7 months ago
@spaztron5000 ...people still get killed in cars surrounded by airbags and strapped in with belts,, kids still get killed even wearing helmets and all sorts of padding...if it's your time to go, there's no escape.

juliusURVAN 9 months ago 39
@juliusURVAN Are you that ignorant? Immigrants have been coming to America forever. Who do you think signed the Declaration of Independence, natives?
America has fought every wave of immigration it's ever had.
amaleplatypus 5 months ago
@amaleplatypus not anymore, we give them homes, jobs, licenses, vehicles, and let them loose to crash into people, disrespect our values, and murder people.
juliusURVAN 5 months ago
@juliusURVAN Touche lol
amaleplatypus 5 months ago
@amaleplatypus dude your an IDIOT, natives did not sign the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, NOR the Constitution. who ever told you that is a dumbass and more then likely a liberal. and i believe what Julius was getting at was illegal immigrants, yeah their ass needs to be sent back over the border. we have become push overs and let ppl complain about our values and what not, History has been twisted.
spartan7480 5 months ago in playlist bucky covington
@spartan7480 Are you fucking stupid? Read what I post. I didn't say Natives signed the declaration of independence. I simply asked JuliusURVAN if HE THOUGHT that they did.
You're one to insult other people's intelligence when you can't even fucking read, or understand sarcasm. Also, it's impossible to twist history. Unless you have some sort of time machine the rest of the world doesn't know about. Grow the fuck up
amaleplatypus 5 months ago 2
@amaleplatypus I never seen someone as childish as you yes u dumb ass it is possible to twist history it's done every day such as that the civil was over slavery it aint. and I am the one to insult your ignorance. and i fucking saw no where in ur statement a fucking ? dumbass haha. history is changed to shut people so they'll stop complaining. for instance Vietnam was lost on our home soil the vietmese never won a conflict it was lost because of political ignorant bastards like yourself.
spartan7480 5 months ago
@spartan7480 Really? I'm ignorant? You can't even spell. I'm well aware of history, I'm currently a history major at Texas State University in San Marcos. I know my history.
However, I will still encourage people to learn proper English/American and know how to communicate before they start learning other things. Before you start preaching, you might wanna make sure you don't come off as a retard.

Bucky is way too young for that to be HIS world.
sapilgrim2299 1 year ago
