Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for posting...it boggles the mind to wonder how this tacky, overblown & pretentious flick ever got made! Most of the cast tried hard to take it seriously & do their best; but it's a low point for ALL those involved. Actually, Marie Windsor was old enough to be Dennis Hopper's mother, being 17 yrs older than him!
@JubalCalif There's a large dose of anachronism here... starting with him having short hair and wearing the uniform of the Consular / Imperial Guard in 1796... not to mention the Legion of Honour (which he created as First Consul in 1802 and the first decorations of which were awarded in 1804!). As for the idea that he was sent into exile because the people rose up against him... what a load of overblown rubbish! He's the only 1800s head of state whom the crowd fought to keep!
Well put & well said! The "Little Corporal" would be pleased! Thanks for your articulate, informative & intriguing comment! Have a happy weekend! :-)
@JubalCalif As Louis Madelin wrote in his mammouth "History of the Consulate and the Empire", the crowd of workers that swarmed around the Élysée Palace shouting "Vive l'Empereur" several days after after Waterloo was "the only time in a century that a mob gathered around a sovereign's palace to keep him IN it rather than to expulse him FROM it!"
@doctorw2 It is commercially available through The Warner Archive. Just Google "WBshop Story of Mankind" and it should pop right up. It's a very nice print and great DVD.
@TEGRULZ The sequence is from Irwin Allen's THE STORY OF MANKIND, which, like his later TV series "Time Tunnel", raided the studio's stock footage collection for impressive visuals. The integration of footage was obviously not seamless!
@dasinfogod Good point but Im actually quite happy that they used some footage that deserves to be mentioned and Its a wonder they never show this anymore on AMC or TMC

This is a fascinating clip.
Watch how, during the course of the scene,
Marie Windsor adjusts her broader acting style
to Dennis Hopper's more natural one.
