  • nice. i'm bidding for 1 on ebay right now!! thumbs up to this video. ( i'm 1 of teh people who liked.)

  • r u looking to sell this ibook

  • glad you hit 1000. congrats buddy. hey does it have 512 megs of ram yet?

  • would you by any chance like to get rid of it?

  • he reminds me of super bad(movie)...

  • when he said ibook i first thought he said ibrick

  • DOES IT HAVE WIFI

  • @stevenxbox360playsta Some iBooks have Wifi depending the model

  • Nice! These special edition ones are hard to find!

  • you said that underneath the airport card is the wireless card. AirPort is the name that Apple uses for Wireless networking. That means AirPort IS the wireless card.

  • @Jupilerke13 I meant to say the RAM, I know what AirPort is.

  • my clamshell has NOTHING. no airport. no firewire. 6gb hd. good video

  • thanks Jeff

  • Nice ibook! I just got a 14 in ibook g3, 900 mhz, 640 mb ram, and a 40 gig hdd, so I have the fastest ibook g3 you could get. Has airport, too. Im still really into the older, clamshell designs, though.

  • This is awesome. So jealous, I've been wanting one for 2 years but I can never find one without repairs on eBay.

Oh, and there's no need to be so homophobic and judgmental! IT'S A VIDEO ABOUT A LAPTOP, FOR GOD'S SAKE.

    Shallow, stereotypical people suck.

  • Geoff, great to see you young folks keeping these alive! You might want to think about an "alternative" OS for your little guy. Like the PowerPC fork of Ubuntu or FreeBSD if you're wanting to get your geek on. I looked up batteries for these on Amazon, you can get an 8 cell for about 30 beans! Good luck! ~ Scott

  • i think this is the best laptop design ever

  • @tomwest666 the thinkpad had the best in my opinion.

  • @chucknorris687 as computers their very good but the design is not very good

  • @tomwest666 Their keyboards have been argued to be the most comfortable and easy to type on design ever! If by design you mean "looks" yea you might be right but design? Poor word choice my friend.

  • where can you got these. apart from ebay and amazon. becase i want to be able to fin one wenever i look

  • my old elementary school had a bunch of these, and a bunch of old system 7 macs with cd rom drives *looked like the classic*, I have no idea what they did with these bcause they phased em out asap with drives me nuts because I always wanted to get em,

  • 'Not so many business men wanted to carry them around because they looked kinda kid-like' - isn't that what the PowerBook was for?

  • what the fuck is with the chipmunkvoive

  • Man, I'm loving my Dell Latitude that has outlasted this piece of shit that nobody owns anymore. :)

  • @helenatorr Really? because I have had my latitude for 1 year and it's in the shop. My macbook, which I am using right now, is still being used after 5 years of use, not needing of repair once.

  • @ZediaStudios Sorry? lol.

  • @helenatorr sorry if your comment wasn't what I tought. I tend to get defensive of Apple when people dis them :) haha

  • @ZediaStudios Nah, no disses. I've got an Apple iPhone!

  • @helenatorr Lucky. I'm waiting until the white one comes out. if it ever does...

  • @ZediaStudios I know! I've seen one before, but I don't know where the person got it. Ugh... It may have been modified to look like that.

  • @helenatorr yeah there is this company called iFixyouri that will turn it in to a white phone, but costs $200!! and they aren't even real parts.

  • I want one! My school is JUST phasing them out. Now we have Windows 7 netbooks. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

  • This was the last fun era of Macintosh computers, before Apple catered to clueless douchefags like silenteyesspy who couldn't find their way around a computer if you drew them a fucking map. Granted the iBook has always been an underpowered POS, but I love using mine today as a test computer for different Linux distros since its really not good for much else besides being a cute paper weight, and I already have its bigger, better brother sitting on my desk. Bondi Blue iMac with OS X, mmmmm.

  • 4:59 Bearded Dragon?

  • i love looking at old tech, then new tech, and see how far weve come... kinda awesome

  • XD 32 mb of ram

  • I really wish apple would make newer iBooks similar to the Clamshells. They are gorgeous in my opinion and if I wasn't afraid of one running too slow for my taste I would get one. I kind of want to buy one for the outside casing and build the inside myself... but I have no experience in building computers... maybe I should learn...

  • Hi! I have the same iBook, but when it boots a flashing finder folder/icon comes up and it does not boot... I cant even get to install another OS, please help?

  • @navigator256 Your hard drives dead.

  • that is an ugly laptop, whoever desiged it should be fired.

  • My grand parents gve me there old ibook and it still has a 6 hour battery and they have never replaced it

  • is $50 a good deal for one?

    it works great and everything.

does yours run like other laptops, like fast or is it slower because it is older??

  • I want one of these so badly!

  • I think Apple should make a limited edition iBook clamshell with all the current MacBook specs.

  • @MBP6705 agreed

  • @MBP6705 I considered a mod like that, but I just couldnt figure out a way to approach it. I considered instead taking a Netbook's insides and working them into a ibook. But the problem is finding a laptop with power and a screen of the same size. :|

  • @RealEmotionX Plus these used a special kind of keyboard and I don't think a netbook would have a connection for that. That sure would be interesting, "The iBook Atom"

  • @MBP6705 Finding a keyboard of the exact dimensions might work. Same for the mouse pad, and the button could stay easily.

  • @MBP6705 that would be sweet

  • think i should get a torquiest clamshell for really cheap off ebay. Ill still need a new battery, charger, and airport card but it would be fun. seriously i just got a new macbook pro, but these look acctully really cool

  • I got a battery that lastes more than 4 hours for the Apple IBook Clamshell ill sell it to you

  • I got two clamshell both with 466mh

  • I have a Dual-USB iBook from 2004 (The white, macbook-style ones), and it's battery still gets me about 4.5/5 hours!

  • it cam in like 10 colors idiot i used these in elementary schools.

  • @DeLong6994 nope, it came in 5 colors. indigo, blueberry, graphite, tangerine, and key lime. I actually have owned all five at different times. you might be thinking of the g3 imacs

  • @CameronRawrr: eww windows 7 and vista eww fagot

  • what apps do u have on it?

  • is amazing how today the iphone 4 is much faster then this laptop but much much smaller.

  • Dude your room is a pig's paradise.

  • Yay, 12733 views!

  • Wow. It's amazing how far Apple has come. Even then they had cool designed computers. Nice video.

  • Just like you i SUPPOSE

  • nice review

  • 100% GAY

  • @Ryanr75rc just like you i suppose?

  • mac is fucking gay.

  • @WULFY1993 have you ever used one? and why would you watch this video if you hate mac so much:)

  • @WULFY1993: I love mac products

  • I'm not a fag though... Cause I'm not gay. Or a bundle of sticks.

  • @Geoff160 or a cigarette

  • @Geoff160 Damn too bad your pretty damn cute ;)

  • @Geoff160 lol, bundle of sticks. :P

  • Dude clean your room.

  • You sir, are a faggot.

  • FAG

  • Thumbs down.

  • fag

  • faggot

  • woah you look like michael cera. also, you're a fag.

  • hey faggot, you're a fag, faggot

  • Fag

  • Gay.

  • Fag.

  • Why does ANYONE buy this crap? It's useless.

  • MACS = STUPID.

I seriously wish they created words harsh enough so i could communicate my HATRED towards macs.

  • @freeyourmind775: well they actually do how harsher words but seeing as how you're so naive and have a very small vocabulary you don't know of any...and second I love Macs as I've never experienced issues with them as I do with windows...I anathematize windows so much they are such an abomination

  • Macs are for fags who lack the brain power to use a PC.

  • Yes

  • @AEpicAnon: PC's are for people with low income and who love to get viruses

  • Macs are for faggots who can't use normal computers.

  • @BlueVihtic: window computers are ugly and classless..but then again I can afford the best

  • Lol, did you just say computers have class. Macs fucking suck. They're for the people that don't understand computers and need something that does it all for them. Macs are just windows computers with an expensive case. Also, Macs don't get viruses because if they did, all the dumbshits (like you) who use them, would have shit tons.

  • @BlueVihtic: is it bad if a computer does it all for people? cause I don't see that as a negative...I'd rather have everything simple and get on with my day than have to be confused and worry about virus scans and freezing and crashing...and I'd never compare them to windows as macs are all unique in everyway and that windows always copies them

  • Windows copies mac? You have to be kidding me right. How dumb are you. If you, or any mac users switched to a PC, you would just fuck it all up because you're used to being babied by a mac. Because macs do do everything for you. Which isn't good since they can't do shit. Play games on a mac? Think again. Customize a mac, think again? Mac is like a play toy for children because there aren't any consequences, and it doesn't do much.

  • @BlueVihtic: nope mac was the first computer to actually run like a computer without commands and crashing every 2 seconds...what windows 7 is doing now I was doing back in 2001 with the mac g3..and I use PCs at work so that's pretty pointless of you to say that I wouldn't know what to do..but I always can't wait to get home to my Mac..and see right there about the playing games..I use computers for WORK NOT playing games..that's why I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360..

  • @silenteyesspy: so windows maybe better for your gaming but it's not for me for my work and you still haven't answered my question about "is it bad if a computer does everything for people" because I don't see that as a negative

  • Blah Blah Blah, stop quoting from the past. None of that matters. Here is something to answer all of the questions.

    mactard (.co) . (uk) /iblog//iblogimages//2009/04/2877534687_d0b260417e_o.jpg

Just remove the spaces and shit.

  • @BlueVihtic: actually a lot of that matter cause it shows you were windows would be if it wasn't for the Mac to copy from..and again I'd rather have a simple thing that does everything and not worry about which virus software to install or if a trojan was detected then going through scanning the whole entire computer or putting it into safe mode to get more of an accurate scan..then removing then all..too much time..obviously you like doing that and that's cool but it's NOT for me

  • Actually, I don't get viruses because I'm computer smart. Even if I got one, I could remove it in 5 seconds unless it was something major. Windows is ten times more customizable and used for more things than mac. That picture got it exactly right. Mac is like a tricycle. It doesn't break, anyone can use it. It's like a child's toy.

  • @BlueVihtic: the picture is right and if you were to actually read, I specified that "I'd rather have a simple thing that does everything" and you don't get viruses because you have software installed or have windows defender running and that's good that you could remove it in 5 seconds..you might customize your computer but all I really do is just the wallpapers..I could care less about setting start up and shut down tones..again I WORK on my computers, I don't care about the other stuff

  • You think that customization is just shut down tones and stuff like that. It goes way begone just sounds and pictures. And you did say that you want something simple that does everything. No such thing. At least that isn't a mac.

  • @BlueVihtic: sure it does, memory, HD, video card etc etc etc...my mac does everything..built in webcam, garage band, Imovie etc etc etc..I photoshop, check my emails my facebook..I watch youtube, cbs, abc..it's synced with my iphone...that's everything to me. so I don't know what you're talking about

  • Memory doesn't count, HD doesn't count, Video Card definitely doesn't count, Oh wow, a webcam, sick, stock programs. Youtube, facebook, and shows are the internet, not mac. And guess what, you can't break outside those barriers. There is so much more, but you don't realize it because you have a mac.

  • @BlueVihtic: But what part of "I do everything I want" don't you understand? and everything that I listed are pretty much daily routines, I obviously have Microsoft office and that's how I type out letter and resumes and excel I use often too..that's just my point, I am already doing everything everything I want WITHOUT the extra worry of viruses or if I should buy sony veges studio or just download movie maker because it doesn't come preinstalled etc etc etc

  • We're not arguing about what's best for you. It's about what the mac is like all together. It might be good for people like you that just do basic things, but when you get more into computers, mac has many boundaries. That's why the picture compared it to a tricycle. It works all of the basic things, but you can't really customize stuff, and when you want to do something outside the boundaries, it won't happen.

  • Comment removed

  • @BlueVihtic: ok so what do you customize that "everyone" supposedly does except for the Mac people..cause like I told you I don't have time for customizing things..I don't care about different cases that glow, or about the liquid cooling system that flows through different color pipes etc etc...people just all buy PC because they're cheap..the richer families buy Macs because they have the money..more than half the people that buy PCs only know how to work the basics and it was a cheap buy

  • You're saying facts that aren't even true. Smart people buy PCs. Chumps that know nothing about computers buy macs. They buy them because they look good. Not because of the specs or anything. And more than half of people that buy PCs only know the basics? Macs customization level is below basics. Even if you facts were true, the over 50% of people would be doing more customization than a mac while not even knowing it.

  • @BlueVihtic: first off you never explained how you customize it or how everyone that owns a PC customizes it...so I'd like that answered. and I'm going by the majority of people who have PCs..they have them because they are cheap and got the whole desktop for 299, they honestly just check email surf the web and print the occasional letter/resume..and who cares if the Mac customization is low..no one customizes any computer except for those that know exactly what they are doing

  • I'm not going to sit here and list off the things to customize on a PC. You can find that elsewhere. By the way, where are you getting your facts from. You lie on all these stats you say. The majority of people don't buy PCs because of their price. They buy them because they are a lot more useful than macs, and aren't all about looks. You could buy a PC with the same EXACT statistics as a mac, for half the price. That is completely true. Like I said before, people customize PCs not even knowing.

  • @BlueVihtic: what not even 2 little things that you can customize on a PC? yeah probably cause you haven't even done it yet..so all these people in their middle age that buy PCs know exactly how to work them and so that's why they need geeksquad and also take in their PCs to get the virus software installed instead of doing it themselves? and people customize PCs without even knowing? how is that exactly?

  • I have customized my PC over a mac well enough times to realize it. And you keep trying to make it seem like everyone who buys a PC doesn't know anything about computers. That might be it for mac users, but not PC users. People customize PCs without knowing it because if they tried it on a mac, it wouldn't work. Whether they were using a tutorial or not, it's a lot more customizable. And if you buy a Mac and say you won't play games, what about later when you might want to play a game/simulator?

  • @BlueVihtic People who want good customer service, a computer that isn't hideous, and a UNIX distro that isn't fagged up with X11 buy macs. Deal with it.

  • @richardmaudsley77 There are Linux distros that aren't that bad like Ubuntu, Debian (it's verrrrry generic though) and Linux Mint. But there is no OS that looks as great and is as functional as the Mac OS.

  • Fag

  • what a fag

  • long live clamshells! unlike many people here, I think the stickers look great.

  • i have a ibook g3 and i have the 9.2 update.

  • my friend, you can get an ibook battery brand new at some battery shops in orange county. they are 100$ on special order.

  • congrats on the 1000 views.

  • I also did a video about optimizing a Clamshell to get the best performance. The only thing that I thought I'd change about yours is to update the airport card to a wireless N USB adapter for a faster internet experience and WPA encryption. It is possible to put a 120 Gig hard drive in one of these as long as you have the latest firmware also. Batteries are readily available on line.

  • Take.the.stickers.off. But otherwise awesome laptop! =D Apple win when this came out. You just can't find laptops as innovative as this anymore.

  • ebay fixes EVERYTHING

  • there are new batteries on ebay!!!

  • the airport is the wireless internet card!!!

  • I want to buy one on ebay!!!!!

    great video!!!

  • i want one of those

  • i had a spare for my ibook but it fell out of my window (my fault)

  • WHY THE FUCK DID YOU PUT STICKERS ON IT?! Good video btw..

  • U can by a battery on ebay for like $20. I got one and it lasts 4 hours!

  • Downranked this by accident, damn. And you seemed very in-the-know about the model. :O

  • cool!

im hoping to get one of these awesome laptops!

my favorite are the key lime and the tangerine edition, if anyone has these, they are extreemly lucky!

  • is it still in use. what would you use something like that for?

  • damn i want one of these!!!!

  • why did you edit in windows? you could of used the ibook :) with Imovie,

  • getting one soon, I am planing to make it my main school computer as its so portable, as it has that handle, :) and my school is using 15 year old computer's (windozes) XP and there lab got vandlised today and that sucks, as like wtf? but yea,

  • I don't know which one I should get ? A ibook clamshell or a hp nc6000.

  • Geoff, you need to clean your room

    haha.

  • does youtube work on this?

  • maybe at 1-2 frames per second.

this thing is from an era when youtube didnt exist.

and a pc from that era wouldnt be any better

  • it dont i got it like 4 months ago

  • it wont unless you have an upgrade i got it kike 2 months ago lol

  • to give you an idea of it's performance: computer im typing on: 700mhz g4 640 mb ram 5400rpm hdd 32 mb vram discrete im getting about 4 fps on this video and its the same for other videos too. ibook: 300-450 mhz g3 maximum around 600 mb ram( not sure exactly) 4 mb vram, integrated vram. 4200 rpm hdd maybe now you see what i mean? lol
  • I got a iMac g3 400 and it runs youtube Okay, I suppose. The sound plays fine, but the video ends up out of sinc by about a second or so towards the end. If you download the video and run it in quicktime instead of Flash it's perfect.

Pretty much just flash video's shitiness.

  • @richardmaudsley77 Flash sucks ass!!!!

  • @Chris242tt yup. Now the new youtube update came out, needing a new flash player. And now the new one freezes the entire fucking computer.

  • when your using it the apple logo is upside down

  • Comment removed

  • That is so you can see it when you carry it with the handle. Not a design fail. :P

  • Sorry, Geoff/Jeff. I meant to put Powerbook Duo

  • the Powerbook line came out arlier than the iBook with its first model, the Powerbook 100, in 1993.

  • I know, I made it sound like they made the PowerBook line because of the kid-ness of the iBook, but I meant to say, thats why they have the PowerBook line.

  • what a mean name for that lizard. I wouldn't call mine "freaky"

  • hey,do you know where i can get any version of osx except ebay.

  • good vid i just got a macbook aluminum but want a clamshell soooooooo bad

  • I had problems getting my ibook to work on youtube and sites with a lot of java stuff, have you had the same problem with yours?

  • The processor on the iBook is too slow to process video other than DVD. Sorry!

  • nice vid, never seen anyone with a lizard before lol, are they very friendly?? 5 stars

  • Hey, this is great! Finally, someone my age who knows what he's talking about when it comes to computers!

The clamshell G3 is probably one of my favorite Macs. I've never owned a Mac, so I would like to find one of these on eBay.

That DVD played pretty smoothly - looks like that ATI 3D Rage video card built-in works good.

    5/5, favorited, and subscribed!

  • Thanks! I really appreciate it! If you interested in a Blueberry, let me know!

  • You're welcome!

Selling one, are you? I doubt you would want to ship to Canada! lol!
