the young Elvis...all imitators can find themselves somethingelse to do..imitators are nothing to listen to/at.on a cd they are all sounded false and wrong in many ways...Elvis on Cd-Lp-Ep is always the greatest to listen to/at.imitators focus tooo much on other things then voice and singing way etc
Elvis could have every woman on earth...not like the modern stars which dedicate their music to one special group such as teenangers or old people... Everyone loved elvis. I dont think there is a star today whom loves everyone.
@willpn100 Give us a break. It's a stupid movie that he was contracted to do. What the F' do you expect him to sing at the end of funeral scene of a movie whose script deals with the civil war? Rock Around the Clock? Btw, as an artist, how many ballads did Haley sing? How many different genres did he dominate? Never heard any number 1 ballads, Gospel, Rockabilly, Blues, etc. by Haley. I guess as an artist, his talent scope was a bit narrow.
@michaelfr613 Elvis have had to pay dearly for his leader´s unyielding attitude". Elvis career was oriented to reach objectives, so that you agree that he sang ballads, his movie director, too, that´s why he did that. On the other hand, B.Haley was not an actor, that´s why "rock´n roll" music was his objective. In 1958 Elvis served the army and music fell behind, but Haley never quit "rock n´roll" music and he sang for Elvis in the army. Haley´s audience wanted him playing "rock" not ballads.
@willpn100 Bill Haley lived about 55 years, but produced nothing new after age 30. In my opinion, Haley locked himself into a teenage audience & he couldn't make rock hits as he matured. There's nothing inherently "holy" about limiting yourself to "rock". Elvis always evolved, always diversified his music, and that's why he had such broad appeal. A true "artist" is one who can mature in his music, evolve, & has range. Singing Rock Around the Clock till age 55 is nostolgic, but not artistic.
@michaelfr613 Like I said before, Bill´s audience wanted him playing his smash hits. The audience is the boss!. Elvis finished his career singing the same way he used to do in the 50´s.. And he died depressed!. The Rolling Stones also sing the same songs they used to to in the 60´s! I repeat, the audience is the boss! Paul MacCartney equally.
@willpn100 You spend a lot of time psychoanalyzing Elvis. The point is, Haley produce NOTHING NEW after the '50s (maybe because he didn't have the courage to express himself as he matured & was afraid he'd alient his-people like you who think there's something innately holy about singing only R&R. McCartney, as did the other Beatles, always wrote & sang Ballads. That's how they matured as artists. As far as the Stones, they've also produced ballads.
@michaelfr613 You do too. Sing ballads do not mean the artist is mature, actually they are all older. Haley always sang rock and roll because is something he invented and rock and roll is and will always be music for the youngsters. Ballads is for depressive peoples. In his late shows Elvis could not shake his butt, at least!
I would hardly say that his recordings from Stax and American sound anything like his Sun Records recordings. Elvis only performed selected hits from the 50's because his fans wanted to hear it. Off stage he only recorded what he really wanted to sing and what would suit his voice.
This shows that Elvis could have been a wonderful actor, but Elvis saw his mom was very sad seeing her son die at the end, Elvis never again did another good movie that can show his acting talent, like this one.
Nice clip! This ending was specially made after the premiere of the film. The producers cottoned on to the fact that people would hate to see Elvis die added this ending to try and keep everyone happy without actually changing the end of the movie (based on 'The Reno Brothers'.
Even better than the released single - something about the echo here enhances Elvis`s voice. Always been my favourite bit of the film! When I first saw the film everyone in the cinema, which was packed, was crying during this - it was a meeting of the Elvis Presley Appreciation Society though!
I went to see this movie and was behind what seemed like 1,000 girls.this was in the fall of 1956 and you could not hear a word of the movie because of the high pitched screaming.
