This program is an absolute knock out. Kaufmann's singing is noble and sublime, especially in German. I don't know German, but in his singing it sounds beautiful and makes me want to study German. I'm sure he will be a top heldentenor Germany has not seen for years. He is already a wonderful Lohengrin, Florestan, Walther, Max, and Siegmund. He will be a beautiful Siegfried and Tristan in several years.
A ária "Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön" não começou bem. Talvez pelo nervosismo, precebem-se problemas com a respiração. Ao longo da peça a interpretação vai crescendo. Talvez não tenha sido boa escolha iniciar o concerto com esta obra tão delicada e de difícil interpretação. Wagner foi melhor do que Mozart. Talvez por conta do timbre abaritonado de sua voz. Estou mais acostumada a ouvir Mozart em vozes mais líricas, como a do tenor Peter Schreier.
Crecendo in Florestan is GOOD!!! A bit baritonal though for my taste....Flat here and there....Cutting some high notes . (Not high for many tenors...) I heard him "live" in Iceland. Was NOT happy: One advice.....If you can hear V or F or S well , then the voice is not big.....(Micraphones help ) I did NOT hear him well in Icelands concert in Harpa.....I listened to radio recording of the consert.IT was great. ERGO: He has a small voice,good for recording.....
@blauauge2 Sein Retter!!!!! Sein Ritter singt tenor das kan nicht i singen.....(This great tenor can not sing i (I) but sings E in "Sein Ritter Ich". Gut tecnique JA:::: ???? I could hardly hear him on the balcony in Iceland.... Small voice??? Helden tenor???
@karifrid I must withdraw a bit ,this comment. I have heard other singers in the same house after that,and they are not sounding with bigger voices.I had not the best seat,and many other were happy with him and his singing. I like him better on videos than live though...1.29 irritates me a little...des etwas (should be "Dies ")
Not all singers can sing all the vowells a,e,i,o,u, high . Cura for example " e ta belta " on A in Recondita armonia. Sopranos often sing all the high notes on A.....

I may have never heard the fidelio sung with such ease of technique. Having heard him live, and knowing that the voice carries well... this is one of the great tenors to stand with the great german tenors of the past. We will remember Jonas along with , Windgassen, King, Lorenz and the greatest jugendlich german tenors!
@hightenor123 To compare Wingassen with Kaufmann is like you drive a Ferrari or a Wartburg.Windgassen was a legende, Kaufmann remains me only to pain in my ears.

There are three Ritter; twice sung with 'i' the third with 'e' ; Kaufmann does this to allow you
to choose the form you like the most;))
