Probably it was too slow, right? Well they did say it has to have a distinction from reality, they could easily have changed it's speed. =P

The greater the deviation, the more agitated the projections become. So while you could dream up a tank that can travel at mach 12, you'd also be incurring the wrath of the projections that much quicker. Eames was smart to stretch the limit of what he could work with while still staying within reality (as he had to make sure the victim does not realize he is in a dream). A grenade launcher is not easy to obtain but it still operates within the feasible range of what works in physics.
