  • That picture at 4:15 was taken at Campbell's Field! :D

  • "compressed" isn't the word i would use, but i know what you mean.

  • great tutorial, really helped me to understand what settings affect the blur of the background.

  • Cool videos J.P.... Thanks for the tips and sharing..

  • do you edit all your photos?

  • You Know Photoooo!!! lol

Thank you again.... Watching and learning, a lot !

I haven't get My DSLR yet..... but can't stop learning from you Man...

    Grasias!

  • Can't thank you enough for this video! It's been like pulling teeth - trying to find a comprehensive description WITH *SEVERAL* PHOTOGRAPHIC EXAMPLES of the effect of focal length and aperture on DOF. (I'm going to your website to click on all of your ads right now.)

  • Creepy guy at :57

  • I have the same Maui Jim sunglasses. Love em....oh and great informational video.

  • 2:30 i still see Jared,

  • Jared I have a Nikon D300s, and sometimes I take photo at not to high of a ISO like 400 and after I edit them with Capture NX2 I notice some noise. Any idea why this would happen at such a low ISO?

  • @deedf101 if your exposures are way off and you bring it way back or way down that will cause some noise.

  • @JaredPolin Sorry but I didn't get your answer! Could u please explain me easily! Please.. Sometimes I experienced the same problem too!!

  • @deedf101 Jared is right here - you shouldn't be seeing noise at ISO400.

  • Are you using the Mac's webcam for the pip video? I think its changing white balance with your movement, i found it distracting. Just nitpicking, awesome vid btw.

  • @choy33 yes i am.

  • @JaredPolin What program do you use for screen and webcam capture? Is there a good windows equivalent out there?

  • How is the camera and lens info in the top left so small on my computer its huge

  • @Sacharczuk21 im using a 27 inch screen .

  • Informative video, Thank's

  • Why do I keep seeing grain in my pictures?? Is it lens or camera??

  • @ClankyRochet Most likely you have your ISO much too high. Unless you have a super high end camera that can handle higher ISO better (less grain) you will see grain when you get in the ISO 800-3200 setting

  • @hifoo45 I am using Canon 7D. Is grain and noise are the same??

  • @ClankyRochet personally I would say grain and noise are the same in definition. Grain was probably used more in the analog age with film, and now noise is referred as the same thing in the digital age.

  • @ClankyRochet camera and exposure, if its off and u try to bring it back you run the risk of grain.

  • Respond to this video...

  • @ClankyRochet what do u mean?

  • @JaredPolin what lens did you use to film Greg?

  • @RyanAndJillian 70-200 2.8

  • Greay vid. thank you

  • i like how at big chunk of hair pops out of nowhere at 0:54 :)

Jared always makes me happy :D

  • He's lying at 2:10 ... he also zoomed in

  • @fedepresti nope

  • What kind of fisheye do you have? And do you use it frequently, or recommend it?

  • What camera captured this video? Even at 360p, the image is still excellent as if 720p... and 1080p-- superb..

  • Hey Fro!

I love what you are doing on this channel. I have a question.I wanna buy a new fast lens. Im interested in either the sigma 85mm f1.4 (but on a cropped sensor, d5000) or a sigma 70-200mm f2.8 or a nikon 50mm 1.4.

    Right now i own: Nikon d5000, 18-55 & 55-200 kit lens, 17-50mm f2.8 tamron and a nikon 35mm f1.8

I could sell my 18-55 because it has been replaced by the tamron but i want to sell it with the camera as it was a kit.

Which to buy? or do u have any better lens suggestions?

  • Wow I thought you guys had a lot more subscribers, maybe you could get a shout out from someone.

  • How much does that Sony sensor rock on the d7000?!? Thanks Sony!

  • Thanks! This video really helped me understand more!

  • This video was awesome! I am learning so much about photography just from watching your videos and messing around with my camera. Thank You!

  • nikon d7000 or d300s? i'm on the fence! :s

  • @nwarken right now 7000 will out do it in my mind. But of course the next d300s replacement will be better. Is this your first camera?

  • @JaredPolin upgrading from the powerful and robust d60! i could wait it out. when is nikon expected to release their other updates?

  • LOL!! I Knew the Fro would do that. Hey could we get a review of the D7000 please?

    Great Vids keep them coming.

  • @JaredPolin, perhaps you could speculate on this...

On a cropped sensor body, wouldn't it be easier to blow the background out considering you're getting inherently larger zooms (due to the 1.5x or 1.6x crop factor)?

  • @jhcentrl honestly not sure about that technical stuff.

  • @JaredPolin jared i have an entri-lvl nikon dslr with the kit 18-55mm VR what lens should i get next?Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR II (NEW) OR Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S Silent Wave serie G

  • @jhcentrl You don't change the focal length (distance from lens to sensor). But if you use a teleconverter, I think it would be easier to blow out the background.

  • @jhcentrl No it doesn't it'll be the same blur with a crop sensor or a full frame. a crop sensor basically CROPS the photo of the full frame, it doesn't really ZOOM in closer.

  • @jhcentrl no not at all. so if you were at 100mm on a cropped sensor to get the same position on a full frame sensor you would need to be at 160mm which means the background is more blown out

  • @jhcentrl My understanding of this issue is based on what people with expertise in optics have written. The optical characteristics of a lens are what they are regardless of the sensor size of the camera on which they are mounted. A lens with a focal length of 80mm is still a 80mm focal length on a DX camera. The 1.5x factor is for deriving an equivalent angle of view to a full size sensor. A 80mm on a DX has the same angle of view as a 120mm on a full size sensor.

  • @jhcentrl This is the biggest misconception about crop sensors is that they magnify. They don't they crop. Such as a 35mm acts like a 50mm. It is not the zoom/magnification, but the 35mm would show the surrounding area that would have been cropped on the 50mm.

    Hope that helps

    Zeno

  • @jhcentrl yes.

  • @jhcentrl

Nope, the crop factor does not help. That's why the DOF on P&S camera is not very thin at all.

  • Jared, in the description, you've wrote "Nikon D3s 70-200 2.9 VRI"

Thanks for the tips by the way! Really useful!

  • so pretty much i can DO IT when ever i want to

  • Dont forget the hoodies! Yeaaaaaaah!

  • nice video helps a lot!!!
