it used to change what the arrow keys did, like moving the cursor v.s. scrolling within a page...

it can also be used like ctrl, alt, or shift...

but "scroll lock" is a toggle key, so u dont have to hold it...

pause/break is exactly what it sounds like

but its origins are much older

now days when running something like DOS, this key (while held) will pause DOS, sort of like an emergency stop button

that saved my ass many times with DOS
