You don't need to use the console to get houses and furnishings free. You can swindle them by standing between the steward and any item (wardrobe, dresser, cupboard, sack) that can store things and exit out of the dialog right after saying you'll buy it, then stash your gold before it's taken.

I have all but the Windhelm house so far, all furnished, and have only bought 1300 worth of furnishings at Markarth because that steward gets keen after a while. Funny thing is he's the oldest one too.

Spent about 35k gold getting this how and decorating it, and i was pretty disappointed with the lack of containers e.g chests around the house. I mean the house looks nice and all, but the Whiterun one is more practical, even if you do have to run to Dragonsreach to enchant stuff.

breezehome is easily the best house in the game. right beside the blacksmith, right beside the front gate, has an alchemy lab... and if you want an arcane enchanter use the one in dragons reach. also whiterun is a good trading town: it has 2 blacksmiths, arcadia's cauldron sometimes has daedra hearts, belethors general store and a few small stalls which become like banks when you get master merchant perk, all close together. if it had an enchanting table i swear it would be perfect

@kkdalglish1 But some people like the look of the game, and Solitude is the the greenest, and nicest looking city. And it has all the same merchants it does in Whiterun, the only thing is, is that Whiterun has 3 blacksmiths and I think Solitude only has two, but it has the enchanter in the house makes up for it, and it has a TON of ingredients for the alchemy lab there for you. Both great, if you ask me. :P

On my manacins,racks,and all that are glitchy. on my manicans the stuff goes invisable then when i took the stuff off left came back and the stuuf respawns, and its super expensive so i now have infinite money machine, and i just sell the stuff to my wife so its quik. score one for glitches!!

@KristinaTVfan the house in Markarth is pretty good in my opinion, its a long stone hall, with with all the basic stuff that houses come with (cooking room, alchemy, and the table you can disenchant stuff at), and the cool stuff it comes with is 3 dagger display cases, 2 weapon plaques, 3 dual weapon/sheild plaques, and a manequin.

@TheRandomName24 yeah, but that quest has alot of bugs (mostly on Xbox and PS3) the bugs are annoying and can lead to things like if you buy living room first YOU CAN'T CLEAN UP MURDERERS MESS! and if you get it cleared up before you fully finish the quest and the guy runs back to the house (witch he does if you dont kill him fast enough) then you kill him his body wont go away. thats probubly the most buggy quest in the game because if u dont get rid of the amulet your stuck and cant drop it :(

Breeze home in whiterun is my favorite house, it is small, but yet has enough storage(2 chests,4 end tables, and 1 wardrobe) and is right in between white runs blacksmith and belethors general store. It also only costs 5,000 gold but I used the free house glitch so I didn't have to pay anyway.
