Excellent video - though I would add that since this video was posted in 2009, several studies have been published that drastically increase the number of people who are candidates for this device. I am a heart failure patient with minimal symptoms, (NYHA 2) yet getting this device is now indicated for me, whereas it used to be reserved for only patients with worse symptoms and heart classification. Scary, but fascinating. I've had an AICD for 7 years and am now upgrading to the CRT-D.
I need this but am resisting. The animation makes it much more clear exactly how it's done. I've read some textbook material and had it explained to me by the electrophysiologist but this made a strong impression. Do you have one with a defibrillator?
If your heart performance is within the selection criteria to indicate you need this device, I say GET IT. I'm having mine implanted on 22 Dec 11, the Medtronic Protecta XT. The more you read about this device, the more you trust what's happening - in my case, my heart is beating out of sync in the left/right ventricles, a condition called Left Bundle Branch Block. This CRT-D will fix that problem and make my heart pump more efficiently, and hopefully extend my time on the earth with my family.
