As an old Texas Aggie, I am watching this with great fondness for Emory Bellard as his battle with ALS nears its end. I was so proud of him when I saw this score come across the TV as a final. A great man and a great, underappreciated coach.
omg... im a bama fan but i wanna get the miss. shirt from that game and wear it to school.... siinnnccee jacobs is our football coach and all ahahahahhahaha i bet he's going to flip!
"One thing that is forgotten is that Bear Bryant went into the Miss St. locker room after the game (with permission of course), and congratulated the Bulldogs on their win. Class."
maybe it is forgotten because it never happened, i have heard so much BS about Bama and State.. and it all comes from state fans...you're not bama stop acting like you are, state is about as classy as a whore house with crack
Many thanks for posting this. It might be the biggest Bulldog win in school history. I remember this game quite well even though I was on the west coast.

No-- the way i heard it was that one of the bama players reached in and slapped the ball out of the center's hands. I'm an Om fan... but for years after this game here in Miss you would see cars with the sticker " I WAS THERE WHEN WE BEAT THE BEAR 6-3" heck, the stadium didn't hold the 200,000 people who had the sticker on their car...
I was about 25 yds. from the last play. I was 11 at the time and my dad and me were in bleachers. It was so awesome being at that game. And if someone is wandering why i said bleachers in 1980 stadium was not a horseshoe yet. GO DOGS
By far the most painful loss of my 30 years as an Alabama fan. 28 wins in a row, heading for a third straight national title with the #1 defense in America only allowing 8 points per game. State didn't even get those eight, but still won.
I lived on Columbus at the time, and folks still talk about this like it was yesterday. It's sort of like the JFK assassination 'where were you when' in that state.
I saw the tape and MSU did deserve to win as much as it hurts to say that. It still hurts.
I've seen only a few "MSU 6 Bama 3: I was There" bumper stickers, but met probably about 600,000 who claimed to be there. I was not. So who was there???
For those Bullys that think the 2000 Independence Bowl was the Bulldogs' finest hour...please. This is the greatest victory in MSU history!!! Alabama was ranked #1 and had a 28 game winning streak.
I'm A Tide fan but an MSU grad. Johnny Cooks had a whale of a day. Bama should have won , but they did not. This is one of those times when I say Go Dawgs!! And Roll Tide!!
Cooks was an awesome speciman. The Dawg D was impressive as hell that day (as was Bama's). It would have been nice if MSU could have beaten Nebraska to end 10-2.
RIP Emory Bellard

A bitter, shocking loss. Reminds me of Georgia 1976 & South Carolina 2010.
