HEY guys, at 3 years old I was onstage with these guys. Because of that really hip music influence....I am not a worried man. I am fresh out of cigarettes, but I'm king of the road. Can you dig that scene? I thought you could. Peace to all those cool cats and slick chics out there. YOU KNOW, I hear they finally did get Charlie off the MTA. It was in a body bag. After 50 years he was a corpse. Kinda like rail travel in general. I do not prefer to leave on a jet plane.
@lcar4000 John Stewart was NOT original. Nick Reynolds WAS. John replaced Dave Guard. Nick died a couple years ago. I saw him during the KT 40th Anniversary Tour. He suffered serious hip pain.
Truly one of the most perfect records ever made, even if this live version is missing a verse. Dave Guard, as always, was absolutely brilliant during his solo.
They are all dead now. I miss them very much as they were my older brother's favorite group and he would play his records and sing along....that was before Vietnam.
Actually my dad got a really nice letter from Bob Shane a couple of months ago. Imagine that, the one member who took the worst care of himself is still alive.
I have a striped shirt ....exactly like the shirts the Kingston Trio wore. I never put it on that I don't think of them. They were exceptional....and the shirt....also exceptional.
I am only 25, but Kingston Trio was my dad's absolute favorite band followed by Peter Paul and Mary. My dad passed away a year ago and I haven't heard any of this music in years. It is amazing that you can still find this stuff on the internet. I am the only person I know who has ever heard of Kingston Trio or Peter Paul and Mary for that matter... I hate to think that this music will probabily be obsolite in a few years.
This is great! I'm 42 and grew up listening to my Dad's KT albums & Brothers Four albums (among others). I don't listen often but it's always great when I do. Thanks for posting this by the way - one of my fave's.
I may be 31 years old, but I'm a huge fan and have been since 2000 or so. This is the first I've ever got to see really good footage of them. After seeing their smiling faces on the LP jackets all these years, it's a treat to see how they actually acted onstage. Dave sure has an amimated face, dosen't he?
It's a pity that most popular music lovers have no clue about the Kingston Trio's influence. Far more than any other root American group, they changed the direction music would follow. They even influenced the Beatles to a degree.
these guys were the first musicians I ever got into...I recently got a lot of their early stuff on CDs..they hold up veryt well indeed...they were hot for a reason....they were damned good
Wow! In COLOR, too!!! Classic!!! I know Fleetwood Mac's Lindsay Buckingham was a huge Dave Guard fan, too! He covered "All My Sorrows" on his "Out Of The Cradle" CD...
I'm sure many were influenced by them, as I was ...
The Beach Boys were BIG KT fans...Al Jardine said that the BB's striped shirts were a direct result of the Kingston Trio look. The layered vocal harmonies were similar, and of course the Beach Boys covered Sloop John B (which was on the first KT album).
Listen to the Kingston Trio while going down a highway and don't be surprised if the miles just fly by along with the time. They were GREAT!

I don't know what I was thinking....I meant Nick Reynolds, Dave Guard and John Stewart now deceased, with Bob Shane still living.

Kingston Trio were fantastic bedrock of American Music!

It;s really hard to believe that Bob Shane is the only living member of the Dave Guard and John Stewart original versions of the trio.

Those guys had so much fun then...now it seems most singers are way too self conscious to just have fun!
Thanks for this, in color!!!

@sparkescadman Either too self-conscious or too self-important! :)

They left out a verse. I wonder if there's a longer version out there.
Still good though.

@seansvoice yes, al was a kingston trio fan, but brian says that he wasn't.

It's the stripe shirts!!!
But honestly, all music can be traced back to Folk music in one way or another.
I think of the pubs in Ireland and how men would spin their tales to music.
