what they proubly did was do the percution first, then play that, what they did was fisrt put down a "scratch guitar" which is just a simple guitar part and the drummer plays over it then they put the real guitar parts in.

I think the drummer isnt playing because it's a recording and they'd just do percussions seperately...but I could be wrong.
