Love this. The main way that God communicates to His people is through His Spirit. I might go as far as saying the only way, because if you read the whole Bible, OT and NT, I can't think of an instance where He spoke to man apart from the Holy Spirit. Except maybe angels...
Gungor is a band who loves Jesus, the Bible, and spreading the gospel. They're NOT saying that you can find God's true word in another "holy book" other than the Bible. Rather, they're saying that there are people out there (such as the "jesus-is-savior" website) that idolizes the KJV of the Bible, and condemns every other translation as heresy. If you listen on, you'll hear the lyrics say "...and we will find you in the prisons, and even in our Bibles and churches."
Just started listening to theses guys and gals. They have some pretty cool songs, and a unique sound which I really like. This song weirded me out a little though. "...cannot keep you in a bible, its just another idol to box you in," what's that supposed to mean, isn't the bible the main source of how we come to know God, isn't it the avenue He chose(es) to reveal Himself to humankind?
@Jakeswen He revealed himself to human kind through His son Jesus, what they mean by keeping Him in a Bible is that you can't keep God confined to a law that is written or just words. God is real and He manifests himself through many different things but they are all living. Many times we use the Bible as a way of saying we now understand God bc we have His word but the truth is we will never understand Him bc He is God there is no way to contain Him. Hopefully this helps you understand better
@Jakeswen God revealed Himself to mankind through i guess in the Adam at the beginning and from then on through signs and things of that of that sort all the way up until Christ came forth. The main source of how we come to know God is through prayer not just the Word although the Word is important but if one doesnt have a proper prayer like then he wont know much about the Word of God and also wont know very well Who the God of the Word is.
@Jakeswen, I heard the line as "... cannot keep you in a bible, or it's just another idol ..."
In that sense, I think that sometimes people can be dogmatic about things like which version of the Bible is 'correct' . . . there are many translations that are all legitimate with different strengths. Maybe some people around the world don't have this issue, but it's something that has come up before in my life. I have seen people/groups turn a translation of the Bible into an idol.
@Jakeswen My interpretation was that if someone thought that God was only in the Bible, he wasn't able to communicate to us or present in any other way, then in just "becomes another idol to box You in." It means that the Bible is a way of God communicating to us, but it's not the only way and he is so much greater and more mysterious and good than just a book or a bunch of words.
