I remember rushing in to watch this commercial if I heard it in the backround. I loved Lets Hang On! and didn't have enough money to by the record, so I had to be satisfied with the commercial.
I'm for anything 4 Seasons-related from the '60s, and the commercial director's decision to have Frankie do the voiceover instead of some anonymous voiceover hack was a good move, as it was probably surmised that it would speak directly to the young'uns who bought the Seasons' records. "Let's Hang On" was a great song and the ad probably helped helped sell a few more copies of the 45. The big question : If you hang on to the gum, arent things gonna get a little bit sticky and messy?
Beech-Nut had some pretty strong ammunition to challenge Wrigley's dominance in the chewing gum market during the mid-'60s by using the Four Seasons and "Let's Hang On!" to pitch their product in this 1966 spot. However, Beech-Nut no longer manufactures chewing gum these days...and Wrigley was just bought out by Mars, Inc.
Wow! The abbreviated version was good (and I didn't even realize it was not a complete version), but this one is, as they would say back when this originally aired, "out of sight!!!" Thank you very much for the post.
Yeah cool, thanks for posting this!
