  • which game is at 9:15?

  • @Natios88 Super Aleste

  • Comment removed

  • I saw Axelay in the video. gr8 snes shmup!

  • Interesting that none of those Space Invaders machines had the strips of tape that "coloured" the aliens. I figured at least SOME people would be interested in authenticity (what with the whole "having original marquee" part)...

And wow, Electric Light Orchestra's Time; a song with special meaning to the 80s otaku that remember how the fledgling Gainax did vinyl animation on 8mm film for DAICON IV. Good pick. :)

  • is there an original japanese version anyone ?

  • someone please help me! i want to remember the name of a shoot em up...

you use a red flying car to shoot enemys (obviosly) but in the final stage you fight versus a big white car similar to your own... i think that the car could transform too :(

i have been searching it for years

  • @hipergoku

    Turbo Force (Video system)

  • Gradius. . .

  • This is why I love Japan!

  • Whoever disliked this is mad he can't beat R-Type :)

  • @Soukyugurentai Literally, the one who disliked the vid prefers Modern Warfare 2 over R-Type.

  • if consider space invader spacewars is the first shooter than

  • i think this has facts wrong. wasn't the first shooter or shmup a 1 on 1 vs. space shooter where you and an opponent circled a gravity hole attempting to shoot eachother, the primitive computer didn't have enoughpower for the bullets to be effected. updated versions can be had be had for free on most linux OS. though the japanese seemed to let the genre mature, spain had a really fun go with little red riding hood's zombie bbq for ds(get it). can't wait for 3DS shmups

  • being able to dodge ground fire and for railgun shmups seeing the distance of enemy and projectile. perfect place for sega to revive 'Planet Harrier' actually being able to perceive distance and aim independent of character movement=awesome.

i really just want a revival of railgun games and shmups my fave genres. atleast i have Sin & Punishment(wii) and LRRHZBBQ(ds). both asskicking to fullest extent.

  • This is such a sweet video! Thanks for uploading. I love shoot 'em ups! I remember playing Xevious when I was a kid on my Nintendo. I'm getting back into them now. The 360 has a whole bunch of Japanese/imported shmups. :>

  • 8:10 guilty gear!!! Dizzy!!!

talking about Shmups right? ha ha ha..

  • 9:15 What song is it?

  • Hey! 4:45 !! Isn't it one of the songs of katamari damacy??

  • It's not just your imagination; several Katamari songs can be heard throughout this.

  • fantastic docu, thanks for posting the translation.

Anyone know what the game at 5.00 is? I'm sure I recognise it from an arcade when i was a kid but don't remember the name!!

  • Thanks,

    Merci beaucoup =)

  • thanks for uppload really help me seach for diffrent shump,

for you shump fan or wanna try ,

check ouit tatio legend 2 ps2 title

  • I have that. Great collection. Buy it if you like shmups and good old Taito's games

  • wow thanks for posting this!!!

  • Shooters are not all plane games!

  • I thought Asteroids was the first shmup

  • @PhyA52

get linux OS most come with an updated version of the first shmup game, you circle a gravity well and try to shoot eachother. only 1 on 1, but you van see how asteroids was influenced.

and this seems to only showcase scrolling shmups not arena shmups(where you control direction of ship).

  • thanks for the re-up! the other one was sooo shitty lol

  • Galaga is 100 times funner to play than Xevious.

  • @slickslickster definately. it played an important part in the visual look of modern shmups.. but the gameplay was nothing special

  • @slickslickster - Galaga '88 on PC Engine, the Galactic Dancing part is hilarious. i don't know why it just cracks me up, the way they announce they are dancing..

  • Katamari music! XD
