  • head gasket leak what oil or gasoline ?

  • It's leaking coolant. I need to take the engine back out and do the heads over again. Probably will get to it over the winter.

  • How much would it be to put a new head gasket set on a 2001 Dodge Dakota 5.9 engine ? She only have 57 Miles and the valve cover are leaking is casey LOL.

  • Valve covers and head gaskets are 2 different things. Valve covers are easey to replace. Felpro makes a nice silicone rubber gasket with ribs to keep the oil from leaking out. The silicone doesn't get crushed like the stock material. They're reusable, too.

  • I have an 87 GN and recently replaced my head gaskets, I used RJC's stainless head gasket kit. I still have to retorque them to 85ft lb. I used the cadillac pills, no leaks, but I have not "got on it" yet until I retorque the heads. I got side tracked with a knee replacement "ouch x 10". That was in June and I still can't work on the beast yet. $^*&*$^^ $%^%$%&!!! With the RJC kit you use some type of silicone on both sides of the gaskets. Gotta retorque the heads soon though.

  • Oh and one last thing almost forgot, It heps to re torque the head bolts/studs after about 100-200 moles at least on my Sy & Ty I had to do it GN might be the same!

  • Thanks for the info. The block was decked and the heads were planed. I filmed that right after re-torquing that head. I'm told that it's common for them to leak and it's best to coat both sides with Copper spray sealant. Also, when re-torquing I did not loosen the bolts then re-tighten. I just cranked them down to 75 ft. lbs. I might try re-torquing again the right way. Last, I'm told that sealant tabs ("Cadillac Pills") work, but so far they haven't helped.

  • I will be at Sads & Manys Shop Hye-Tech Performance on Wednesday & I will definitely bring your situation up. See if they had that problem & what they recommend.

  • It's a common issue when swapping to Metal Head gaskets. You have to re deck the block & Heads also getting ARP fasteners will help. I had the same problem with my Galant VR4 when upgraded to triple metal HKS gasket more then 10 years ago.

Today I am running Cometic in 3 of my cars Syclone, Typhoon & Galant VR4 never had a problem.
