If anything, this song is just another example of how much Tim Armstrong is influenced and inspired by Joe Strummer. If you want to listen to some Rancid that has real ska influence, check out their album Life Won't Wait. Lots of Strummer-inspired ska tracks.

Freaks isn't technically a "punk" movie, but you can tell a lot of punks have watched it. Either way, "punk", to generalize, is basically sped-up Black Sabbath without the guitar solos.
