ust want to add to my comment above, as it has been misunderstood by some. I love this song and I love the message. It is a positive one for young women, wake up, open your eyes, enjoy yourself and see the world. I was once a thin, quiet, painfully shy young woman. I know what it feels like, that was the point! You don't need to grow up so fast, take your time. So young women, be yourselves and be kind to eachother.
Dear Prudence !! I did'nt know the Beatles done this track too, Now thats no supprise as The beatles were good too, However Siouxsie did the best version in my opinion.
Can anyone tell me the names of siouxsie and the banshees band members please ?
Hearing this takes me back to the Chequers in Oxford in 1984 or thereabouts, and its video wall. It is simply a brilliant intrerpretation of the song. I always felt that there were slightly menacing undertones to this an that it's not unambiguously a happy song.
@mscsimmons, shy people aren't shy because they are being arrogant or full of themselves, they are shy because, strangely enough they are shy! Or they have low self esteem or a lack of confidence . We shy people have enough shit as it is without idiots like you passing judgement on us.
@MeinKleinTier THATS FUNNY ...IM 42 WE USE TO CALL SOME OF THE OLD MUSIC INDUSTRIAL ...OR DEATHROCK...WAY BEFORE GOTH..JUST LIKE SLAM DANCING WAS BEFORE MOSHING
I'm going to play this song to some teenage girls that I teach who either think their too cool for the rest of the world, or are so extruciatingly shy they want to disappear.
I wish they would get over themselves, open up their eyes and embrace the life they have before them.
@MsDrummermike Most music in the 70's and 80's was crap and most of what we now consider as classic was known by few people and never, and I repeat, never, played on the radio.
@bradco6 depends what station you listened too, iy you old enough that is. This is still being played today. In 30 years in doubt gaga, beiber, 50 cent, snoop dog will sound current somehow.
@bradco6 ( you know nothing about good Music then I take it.?) Calling 70's & 80's Crap music, is from people whom dont know music, 60's 70's & 80's was the best ever time for music, bands & singers set the standards of today's Music. Think about it, Most bands were real bands, not the studio bands that can't even play or bloody Simon powell's flog offs who can't even sing without a studio. The music of yesterday will live on, todays music dies in weeks, or even days.
@MsDrummermike MsDrummer- I said most music from the 70's and 80's was crap, not all music from those eras. My point is that most of the great music we hear from those decades was not mainstream or Top 10 music, just like most music today. Just like our memories of the past, we tend to remember the good things and gloss over the bad.
@bradco6 Your talking from the perspective of someone who is living in the usa, not the uk.Very different places where music is concerned and very different top 10s at those periods in time.
@MsCSimmonds ... got to get rid of the socialism inside of you first.... all teachers are brainwashed with that by the governement .... thats why you got your job ( and were accepted for the position) . The youth rebel... they dont want it . They want individualism. The same as us all .... we do not want socialism and all its robot like ways .
@evsynator How easy it is to be mis understood. I am a dance Artist who happened to work in Education. I just thought it was a good song with a positive message for young women, going through those hard teenage times, and I was there once you know. and I used to have a skinhead!
@TheNEWfilmfanatic99 No, see-ox, would be wrong. hhahahah I always just kind of thought of Sioux Falls, SD (my dad was born there). But see-ox. That's funny, man. :)
I haven't heard a version of this song I don't like. I am a bit biased toward the Beatles version because it's the original and seems to have the most feeling (as Lennon wrote it about someone he knew), but I am biased toward this too, because I just love Siouxsie ^^ (and generally I think ladies have better voices). Check out the Jerry Garcia Band's version as well!
@GyroHobbies Me = independent. I don't worship the Beatles like everyone else. I like 2 Beatles songs! (Here Comes The Sun and Revolution) I just love this version.
It's not because of your choice of music, it's because you say you are independent. That's why I hate you. Personally, I don't like the Beatles that much either, but I don't pardade my 'individuality' around like a Brazilian crack whore.
@ProfessionalWhiteGuy I am independent. I'm in to bands no one I know has ever heard of...I'd call that Indie. And why do you think I 'parade' it around? This is the first time I've said I was "individual" on YouTube. Stop making shit assumptions about people you never met.
You sound like an insufferable dickhole by acting like that. 'Oh yeh im totez individual check out this band no-one's ever heard of am i cool yet guiz?' How insecure. Also, what bands are these, that no-one has ever heard of?
@ProfessionalWhiteGuy The funny thing is yeah, they were. But no one I know knows them! The "punk" kids at my school asked me if I like punk, and I said yes. They then asked me if I liked INSANE CLOWN POSSE. I said no. They said that I wasn't a "real punk". See how much they know?
@xXxTearsWillFallxXx I wouldn't be surprised if your history teacher was talking about you recognizing your own talent for history OR if you thought you had low self-esteem generally - if you feel his attitude towards you is normal, then don't listen to these people here who cant judge - you judge for yourself whether he meant history talent/low self -esteem or attractiveness
@xXxTearsWillFallxXx Most men of my generation who liked Siouxsie were alternative types and/or gay. I doubt if your teacher is trying to creep you out or hit on you. He most likely saw some spark of life in you that maybe you hadn't fully realized just yet. Hopefully you will.

@ProfessionalWhiteGuy Well I'm not an insufferable dickhole, thanks. I'm not insecure either, but thanks for that kind accusation.
For Indie: The Drums, Cats on Fire, Vioens.
For other stuff: Stiff Little Fingers, Time Zone, Gene Krupa, even some stuff like Nada Surf, which you'd think most people would have heard of.
And alot of older stuff.
