  • some of these people look black or white i am of latin american decent and i look like im atleast 45 percent native why aint i called native american.

  • @911sanitarium I'm not sure I understand your situation but the Office of American Indian Affairs could probably help you with that issue. I'm not in a position to help you. Thanks for your interest though in my project.

  • @Bicolanostriper Well i was wondering if somehow i can consider myself native american rather than hispanic. I feel like i have been robbed of my native american ancestry and labeled as hispanic. Im related to the tribes of central america.

  • @DoloresAnne1 Thanks for your appreciation of my work.

  • The songs may not be native American Indian song but it is definitely ethnic. Like I said If you know of an Indian group who would allow me to use their songs, I'll be glad to use it for my upcoming projects. I got so many materials but I just don't have the music background. Please take not though, others love it the way it is. So, that's all that matters. Thanks for viewing.

  • @Bicolanostriper Where are you from? I am from the south shore of Long Island not terribly far fron the shinnecock nation. I have yet to make it out for the pow wow even though Ive been on the reservation numerous times

  • I have no idea what native songs by whom, are available for music scoring or background that won't be charging me for its use. If you know something please let me know. The background I used came with the software I got from apple, so it's free.

  • oh and btw, im sure there is many native songs you could have used, if its protected then so would it be from india

  • Why don't people read the description you made that perfectly clear .damn!!..respect for doing this ....peace !

  • what's with the music?

  • @wildnwired - I do not want to have issues with anybody regarding intellectual properties. for small projects like this i'd rather use what is readily available in the iMovie software from apple. I chose this kind of music to project ethnicity and culture that is not so strange from the subject.

  • @Bicolanostriper yeah whats with the music? it ain't native thats for sure, might be native to india though lol! and since its not native american why put native pictures with music from india? maybe you should change eithjer the pictures or songs and you will stop having comments about this not being native lol

  • this is not native american music this is eastern indian music

  • @believeinnothing3 - I would appreciate it very much if you can read the description and subsequent comment regarding the music before you say something. I made no claim that it was native American music.

  • Lots of African Americans lol

  • @revolversmoke - I'm not quite sure by your comment. They may look like African Americans but they belong to the Shinnecock Nation. One of the many native tribes or nations of the Northeast that first encountered the European settlers.

  • @Bicolanostriper O ok cos their mixed?

  • @revolversmoke In the 1700s and 1800s there were a number of runaway slaves on the East Coast and in the South that found refuge from their oppression with the tribes in the area. Many were adopted into the tribe or married into it. Over time, in some tribes, the mixing between black slaves and native people was so great that the tribe essentially became that mixture between black and native. So, they are the descendants of people stolen from Africa, and who became part of a Native tribe.

  • @LakotaSapa THATS BY THE BEST COMMENT ON HERE AND ITS RATHER TRUTH OF HISTORY THAN A OPINION..SO THATS WHAT I SEE AS WELL THE ADMIXTURE BECAME THE PEOPLE

  • @LakotaSapa False

  • @firstladyshine Actually, it's not. But I would be inclined to read your version of the truth. Please share.

  • @LakotaSapa I've seen documented stories (like journal entries) dated in the early 1500's where people arriving in the Long Island area described the inhabitants as having dark skin, round faces & short thick looking almost identical to Ethiopians except taller. The asian looking natives were seen further from shore. I'm married to a Shinnecock native, & we did a lot of research while tracing his lineage after the tribe became recognized by the gov't. Can't find the info now of course.

  • @firstladyshine Anyway, I'm not saying there werent runaway slaves taken in by tribes, but there were black tribes too. The whites then wanted to kill all natives, but it was impossible. But they could, at least force the black ones to mix with slaves. I know it's not the history taught to us, but think about it, history claims that the Olmecs just disappeared from south america, that is obviously a tale told to uphold the myth of there being no black natives. Too many to share with for them.

  • @LakotaSapa I read a great book, The Only Land They Knew by J. Leitch Wright. The first slaves were the Indians, not the Black Africans. Only 5 % of slaves came from the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. The book talks about the South East US and the interaction between Indians, Africans and Whites. There was a lot of mixing between Blacks and Indians in this region, especially NC and SC.

  • @Bicolanostriper O ok now I understand

  • @revolversmoke In case you didn't know, lots of Black Americans have Indian blood...

  • @hwiseman1 That is another myth. Most of the Blacks with higher proportion of Native American blood, mostly come from the American Southeast. The first slaves were Indians, mostly women. Many of the men were deported to the West Indies. Also, when the African slaves were imported from Barbados to the US, (mostly males), they were in quarters with Indian women. There is heavy intermixing in SC, VA and NC, with regard to Blacks. Blacks who have significant Indian ancestry, have southern roots

  • @Gentilejedi Did I say anything different to oppose what you mentioned? I said that a lot of them have Native American blood. Someone was laughing at the Black Indians demonstrated in the video. We have lots of ignorance and hatred in Indian country. But that is in regards to the person laughing at Black Indians. BTW, gentlejedi, I'm Native myself so nothing what you've said is new to me. I know it well.

  • They arent really called indians.. some of them perfer natives or native americans

  • I so miss the BAIC and our powwows.

  • i can imagine the indians and their outfits made specially for them all different is like the moses people would of been if there was no lust and all made their own im glad if cherokees fullfilled that want god had someone needed to

  • Been to the Shinnecock powwow, always a great time. I hope the tribes make enough money to buy the millionaires off the east end and finally have some of their heritage back.

  • Beautiful job! My heart is happy to see my brothers and sisters!

  • wow tiberwolf

  • arent some of these tribes the Mayians? these seem so

  • @RedNativeRose yes they are south american natives such as the aztecs, maiyans, incans.

  • Awesome video!!!!

  • You're welcome!

  • I miss going to the powwow they used to have in my area

  • at 1:09 CHEE!!!

  • I think the music is from the wrong kind of Indian, lol

  • It's not even Indian. It's a Sanskrit. This is due to copyright infringement policies. You just can't use somebody's property without paying royalty. Please read my description. Thank you.

  • @Bicolanostriper I see what you mean. I didn't mean to make fun, just thought it was funny. I know the music is a fusion of different instruments and genres, but most of the instruments are from India. Now I also hear there's some Middle Eastern music.

    but nice video.

  • That's okay. I wish I could be there. I find their Powwow still the best compared to what I had in Morongo last year.

  • I posted this in my facebook to let people know about the upcoming '09 Powwow, next weekend (Labor day weekend)! Great video.

  • I would love to see the revival of ALL aboriginal peoples of the Earth, especially the South Americans who lost way more than we did in the north.

  • nice pics. i love our powwow, i'm shinnecock! =) did u know that the word powwow is actually a Shinnecock word? yup, we are pretty awesome. Its sad that we lost so much of the culture because we were one of the first thirteen tribes to come into contact with the white people. But there are people working very hard to revive and preserve our cultural identity =) thanks for the project, could have done better with the music tho haha

  • Thanks for your comment. You're right. It could have been better with the music background but I don't want to offend anybody as far as copyrights are concerned. I really like the Young Blood band music for this project. I love to see one day the revival of their cultural identity as well as all other Nations of the Native American culture.

  • Thanks for your comment. If you are in the East Coast there are several Powwow events you can go to. The Shinnecock Powwow is being held during the Labor day weekend. It's a 4-day activity. You can also check the Web for Powwow schedule near you. Thanks.

  • amazing colors. where can i go to one of these?

  • Thank you. It is such a great experience to be part of a very unique gathering. Take your time to observe the different color combinations inherent to each nation as well as symbols attached to their outfits. Have a wonderful Powwow!

  • you did such a great job....thank you...

I can't wait to see my first Shinnecock pow-wow in 2 days....

  • Looking forward to see you! I'll be preparing my camera, lens, memory card, and extra batteries. I've never come across a very colorful crowd as this. Thanks

  • I'll try my best to be there. I miss the native foods they offer during the fair. Also, I'd like the opportunity to meet new friends among the native American Indian community. Hope to see you. Thanks

  • i'll be one of the tallest women there, so it'll be nearly impossible to miss me! i'll be the gal with a lot of photo equipment, wearing various dorky gear-holding equipment and a camera permanently attached...say hi!

  • Counterspinyc, don't be surprised. there are a lot of tall skinny folks in Shinnecock Nation!

  • beautiful photos of beautiful peoples!

will you be attending this year's pow-wow?

i'll be holding down a tent somewhere there!

  • You're welcome. The Shinnecock nation has been my first close encounter with the native American Indians and they are wonderful people.

  • Oh, what a vid. So much impressions, beautiful and colourful.Thank you for posting.

  • Thank you and you're welcome. I have made another one with similar vid content but different music background featuring Young Blood's Lemme Wish You Baby, which I think is the best soundtrack for this project because of the beating of the drum and the chant which connects the pictures with the theme but permission has to be obtained.

  • thank you for posting this b/c i am of shinnecock descent. :)
