well in the season 4 finale we aren't sure because this season peter's power was wacking out on him when he had superspeed then once he saves Emma from the buss that is about to hit her he then has Emma's power without using his to get it and what i thought was weird was in the finale when he was at the carnival and at this point i only thought he had Matt's power then when i saw him fly and tackle Samuel. i just dont know anymore. I hope that the next season gives him back his original power
It's because he can only retain one power at a time now. He gets a new power by touching someone with a power. At first he would always absorb a persons power if he touched them, even if he didn't want to, but later he learned to control it better and now that only happens if he is stressed out or surprised.
He probably took the power of flight from Sylar before he flew up to Samuel.
in the middle of the season 4 finale peter and sylar get to the carnival and sylar was telling peter that he was gonna save emma and then as he was saying that the tips of sylars fingers were on peters shoulder and it just looked awkward
I don't remember that, but maybe that's when Peter got his power of flight? Or maybe they developed more than a friendship in the five years they spent together within Sylar's nightmare...

@jaja830 Sylar can't take powers by just being near them. He understands their emotions which takes time for him to get their powers. Basically Sylar is still using the brain as a way to copy their power but he's doing it through a Backdoor (Emotions) because Emotion is attached to the persons Adrenaline which is also attached to their power, he uses his Intuitive Aptitude to understand how it's being done. But the Power has to be in Action, there has to be Adrenaline and the user has to beAlive

Sylar had that advantage, after taking a power he could Understand how it works, it's weaknesses, it's strengths and so on. However when Sylar understands the peoples Emotions instead of going directly to the source, he doesn't get all that Intel from the Brain and has to figure how to use the powers

@playthefield21 it seems like the ability he has now is just an extremey weak version of his original ability, now he has to be so close to someone to take their power that he has to make contact with them and focus on it, and instead of holding all the abilities, he can only keep one at a time. he doesnt even need a blood transfusion, he should just have to copy claires healing ability and focus on "healing" the part of his brain that was damaged by his dad taking his powers
@playthefield21 it would be the same thing he did after the haitian erased his memory, he just had to focus on healing his memory and remembering stuff (like his brother) and his brain healed itself, should be able to do the same with his powers. just like hiro was able to get his back after matts kid "reactivated" his powers

The show started going downhill after season 1. Season 2 wasn't as good but it was still a great show, season 3 really sucked yet i still watched out of loyalty, but i could barely bring myself to watch season 4. Season 4 was such a bungle of writing i could have written better scripts myself. Finishing the last season was a chore for me.
@playthefield21 I've thought of a way for him to get them back though. Sylar has the same power as Peter, whenever he touches someone an exact copy of their powers is transfered into him. If Peter uses the ability he got from the formula which allows him to get different powers but only one at a time can be held, then he can go to Sylar and grab a copy of his own original before his dad took it away. That way, the formula will hold on to the one from Sylar, and Peter will be his old self again

well in the season 4 finale we aren't sure because this season peter's power was wacking out on him when he had superspeed then once he saves Emma from the buss that is about to hit her he then has Emma's power without using his to get it and what i thought was weird was in the finale when he was at the carnival and at this point i only thought he had Matt's power then when i saw him fly and tackle Samuel. i just dont know anymore. I hope that the next season gives him back his original power

It's because he can only retain one power at a time now. He gets a new power by touching someone with a power. At first he would always absorb a persons power if he touched them, even if he didn't want to, but later he learned to control it better and now that only happens if he is stressed out or surprised.
He probably took the power of flight from Sylar before he flew up to Samuel.

@jaja830 Sylar can't take powers by just being near them. He understands their emotions which takes time for him to get their powers. Basically Sylar is still using the brain as a way to copy their power but he's doing it through a Backdoor (Emotions) because Emotion is attached to the persons Adrenaline which is also attached to their power, he uses his Intuitive Aptitude to understand how it's being done. But the Power has to be in Action, there has to be Adrenaline and the user has to beAlive

@jaja830 Well Sylar has his own advantage to Peters old Power. While Peter could Mimic the powers with Empathic Mimicry just by being near the people, he still had to find out how the powers worked. Sylar had that advantage, after taking a power he could Understand how it works, it's weaknesses, it's strengths and so on. However when Sylar understands the peoples Emotions instead of going directly to the source, he doesn't get all that Intel from the Brain and has to figure how to use the powers

@playthefield21 it seems like the ability he has now is just an extremey weak version of his original ability, now he has to be so close to someone to take their power that he has to make contact with them and focus on it, and instead of holding all the abilities, he can only keep one at a time. he doesnt even need a blood transfusion, he should just have to copy claires healing ability and focus on "healing" the part of his brain that was damaged by his dad taking his powers

@berzerkQuicksilver Well the way i see it is that the writers thought Peter was getting to powerful and decided to 'undo' his past 2 1/2 seasons of progress.
The show started going downhill after season 1. Season 2 wasn't as good but it was still a great show, season 3 really sucked yet i still watched out of loyalty, but i could barely bring myself to watch season 4. Season 4 was such a bungle of writing i could have written better scripts myself. Finishing the last season was a chore for me.

@playthefield21 I've thought of a way for him to get them back though. Sylar has the same power as Peter, whenever he touches someone an exact copy of their powers is transfered into him. If Peter uses the ability he got from the formula which allows him to get different powers but only one at a time can be held, then he can go to Sylar and grab a copy of his own original before his dad took it away. That way, the formula will hold on to the one from Sylar, and Peter will be his old self again
