People should remember that the old F1s engine could easily be bettered now. 600bhp is nothing these days from a 6 litre V12. BMW could get 750BHP and another 10MPG from the same capacity now. It made me laugh how on the top gear test, the Veyron was no faster until almost 200MPH, 20 years on.  The F1 is a legend, and way beyond anything else thats ever been produced based on technology at the time.

The MP4-12C is average looking. If you get a Ferrari 360 and superimpose it over the MP4-12C (stupid name too) at the same angle - it is an almost exact match. Try it - you'll see. The performance is great, but the looks are pedestrian. It cannot hold a candle to the F1 LM. Nothing can.

@dobbins2550 ff is pretty much a response to porsches panamera. they're trying out a sedan like car with awd. it only makes sense in todays market. the 458 is pretty ugly, has wayyyy too much wheel gap (lol, it looks horrible up close) , but its a very very fast car on and off the track. it is pretty light weight too compared to other new super cars. not to mention the interior is pure sex in the 458. i do agree, car manufacturers need to step it up and make their cars better, not more boring.

I don't think Top Gear would've been dumb enough to test it against this version. This is an LM Edition (five produced, plus McLaren's XP1)... it's a bit unfair to test the MP4-12C against the LM. They should've used a standard F1, as both the 12C and standard F1 are geared more as road cars.

That said, Top Gear could probably find an F1 to use... they were among the first to test the Enzo when first-round limited deliveries were made.

@brydon189 Definitely was, and that isn't surprising because, as they said on Top Gear actually, the new Mp4-12c was developed there, which probably helps explain its astounding laptime(second fastest ever, only slower than the Atom V8 if I remember correctly, even the new Lambo couldnt beat it, though that said, while it's unlikely I'll ever own either, I'd take the Lambo, it's just so beautiful and has that awesome sounding V12 and performance figures to match it, the McLaren is great too tho)

The F1 has come from a completely different time, consider the current market competition an market position. Ferrari, Porsche, etc (Fuck even the Americans!) have upped their game and ALL have massive amounts of resources to take it to McLaren!

Just read the specification of the car in comparison, the carbon tub is a work of art, the sad fact is some ham-fisted owner will put it around the nearest lamp post. The car fits the time.
