Some of youse commentators are so incredibly naive. My family's 1955 Chrysler had factoryair/con, a Mono Radio that sounded deep and rich in musical tones, and I could take any laptop in the world, attach a brand-new DeLorme GPS LT-20 sensor and software for $25 (having then a large-screen GPS total system) and I'd laugh my *ss off atyou youngish Clowns who assume stuff that is So Not True. Modern Technology? It's only marketed to dunces at the rate they are willing to pay.
@elmerhdga .....ummm.....hi, folks, that above was my poor impression of truth tempered with a bit too much Arrogance. sorry bout the overly attitude. a blabber-mouth fool ruins his good message, and hpoefully can learn from his/her folly.
This, back in the days when America still built everything for America and stood head and shoulders above the rest of the world. Before the degenerate government's selling out the country began, and the rot set in.
besides the obvious fact that cars used to have waaaay more style, it's so nice that old cars are so simple to work on. you wouldn't have those huge mechanic bills because half the stuff you could do yourself. just doing a tune up on a new car is a pain in the ass.
I get a kick out of that part of this commercial where it talks about how owners really like all of the Chevy's GET UP AND GO!! And what does the Chevy do during that entire clip? Ir barely moves -- as if someone left it in neutral and forgot to set the emergency brake and it's coasting away -- that OR, a 99 year old is behind the wheel! VROOM! VROOOOM!!
@jusmeinia7 I think gas fuel costs were much more important in countries in Western Europe than in the US, back then. Something like the Fiat 500 could get 30 MPG or something like that.
@MattTheSaiyan You, sir, are obviously extremely young. If the designers of the Fiat 500 had come to realise that a tiny tiny sedan with a weak 500cc engine of theirs, could only get 30mpg,they would have all committed Suicide on the spot. The car can get upwards of 45 mpg, or even 50+ with lean tuned carb.
@MattTheSaiyan .....Oh, heck, Matt, I didn't mean any harm or insult to you; my comments, though true, were my exaggerated way of speaking, as to a friend. I've got a lot to learn about your prior experience on YouTube and the videos youhave brought to the screen I sense that you are an educated and talented man, and I firmly believe that I will be looking for many more of your videos. thanks.
@jusmeinia7 If you are in the USA, your gas is more or less free. In the UK we are paying £6.30 a gallon. That is about $10.08 a gallon. So we look for at least 40mpg when choosing a car. Preferably 70mpg as some do.
@jusmeinia7 true, but let's not forget that wages were much lower back then, too. so, the price of gas is just a relative figure. I think there are other factors as well that dictate or drive today's crazy push for "economical and efficient" cars, not just the price of gas.
THESE CARS were also easy to work on--even a teenage boy could replace the parts when needed!! unfortunatly, minivans, which are glorified stationwagons are virtually impossible to work on
@The391956 I think some cars had A.C. back then, but YES, a 50s-looking car with modern features would be the best thing ever! Not a direct copy of any exact car, but a new-design that looks like an actual 50s design. Hey....many people have been asking for such a car since the 1970s! Perhaps when they finally figure out a practical method of hydrogen-powered cars, this dream can become a reality.
@MattTheSaiyan Couldn't agree more. Allot of people (myself included) want the look and feel of the 50's cars to come back. If Detroit could get this threw their head there wouldn't be a Toyota or BMW on the streets of America. As for a power source, lets stick with the 50's, lets have nuclear fusion powered cars.
@cypherpunko My 1956 FORD was better looking. And the 1956 Canadian FORD Meteor was the prettiest car of all in the 1950s, even the sainted '57 Chevy.
Yes... I would surly like to step into that long low distintive Bel Aire Sport coupe and try out it's get up and go. These commercials are pricless...great thanks for posting them.
@noaanhc And people of 2060 will laugh about cars of 2010 and their 'security measures'. Evolution, that's what happened 'til 50's. Don't compare classic cars with the today's vision, simply don't match.
Dashboards were so cool back then. And I think the seats were five feet wide ... great for taking a nap on road trips as a kid ! Never was in a wreck, never saw a wreck.... so I didn't have a worry in the world ! Oh, how I miss those days.
ahh... the 50's a time where every toy was a cool toy, where anybody can afford it, where cars were cars, nothing ever exaggerated just shows what it does plain and simple
@NICKOLSandDIMES well it seems to me like it was the time that major corporations could get away with complete lies on TV. Now they can only do that in mexico.
5 years ago a brand new Toyoto run head on into a clasic 1956 ford crown Vic Killed all 4 passengers in the Toyoto with air bags and seat belts on and the old 70 years old couple in the 56 Classic walk away with a few bruises they were wearing there seat belts. The New Toyoto was flaten but the classic's whole front end was crushed in the rest of the car was intacked so just cut the car off from the fire wall and put another one on with new enigin . They were tanks back then
@erick103 Yeaa thatd be great but thats why people Kustomize thier vintage cars to suit thier needs thats called hot roddin but thats a story for another day
What cost $0.20 in 1956 would cost $1.59 in 2010.
