  • What cost $0.20 in 1956 would cost $1.59 in 2010.

    The Inflation Calculator @ westegg.com

  • Here's a vintage style Chevy spot for the 2012 Superbowl

  • Gas is still 49 cents a gallon.......overseas.....:(

  • hauling a full load of kids?

  • now you only see these cars in cuba!

  • Why Don't They Make Cars Like This Anymore?

  • Hey everyone. I own 50sTv .com and have never built a website. Does anyone want the domain name for cheap. Its a great name! Email me

  • Interior crocodile alligator, I drive a Chevrolet movie theater.

  • NINE passengers? I could mount a gun on that thing and have an M4 Sherman to terrorize my idyllic, black and white cul de sac.

  • I"m sold.....heading to the dealer now to buy one! Oh wait.....they don't make rides like this anymore....oh well.

  • Just TRY to own one of these beauties today! You won't get one for a "low price" lol

  • Some of youse commentators are so incredibly naive. My family's 1955 Chrysler had factoryair/con, a Mono Radio that sounded deep and rich in musical tones, and I could take any laptop in the world, attach a brand-new DeLorme GPS LT-20 sensor and software for $25 (having then a large-screen GPS total system) and I'd laugh my *ss off atyou youngish Clowns who assume stuff that is So Not True. Modern Technology? It's only marketed to dunces at the rate they are willing to pay.

  • @elmerhdga .....ummm.....hi, folks, that above was my poor impression of truth tempered with a bit too much Arrogance. sorry bout the overly attitude. a blabber-mouth fool ruins his good message, and hpoefully can learn from his/her folly.

  • I wish i could could see the 50's. I play alot of Mafia 2...

  • @giggitygittitygu123 I wouldn't want to live there but it'd be a fun place to visit.

  • @giggitygittitygu123 haahaha, me too its cool, but i dont think you can give cops money everytime you crash

  • @giggitygittitygu123

empire bay is a beauty including its cars :D

  • This, back in the days when America still built everything for America and stood head and shoulders above the rest of the world. Before the degenerate government's selling out the country began, and the rot set in.

  • Mmm those coil springs were like riding on air.

  • 1:03 LOL I was actually gonna get up and go to my dealer XD

  • besides the obvious fact that cars used to have waaaay more style, it's so nice that old cars are so simple to work on. you wouldn't have those huge mechanic bills because half the stuff you could do yourself. just doing a tune up on a new car is a pain in the ass.

  • I get a kick out of that part of this commercial where it talks about how owners really like all of the Chevy's GET UP AND GO!! And what does the Chevy do during that entire clip? Ir barely moves -- as if someone left it in neutral and forgot to set the emergency brake and it's coasting away -- that OR, a 99 year old is behind the wheel! VROOM! VROOOOM!!

  • It was all about power and performance back then. Nobody cared about MPG, gas was around .20/gallon.

  • @jusmeinia7 I think gas fuel costs were much more important in countries in Western Europe than in the US, back then. Something like the Fiat 500 could get 30 MPG or something like that.

  • @MattTheSaiyan You, sir, are obviously extremely young. If the designers of the Fiat 500 had come to realise that a tiny tiny sedan with a weak 500cc engine of theirs, could only get 30mpg,they would have all committed Suicide on the spot. The car can get upwards of 45 mpg, or even 50+ with lean tuned carb.

  • @elmerhdga Sorry. I had a feeling it was over 40 mpg, but I am poor at remembering numbers so went with a conversative number.

  • @MattTheSaiyan .....Oh, heck, Matt, I didn't mean any harm or insult to you; my comments, though true, were my exaggerated way of speaking, as to a friend. I've got a lot to learn about your prior experience on YouTube and the videos youhave brought to the screen I sense that you are an educated and talented man, and I firmly believe that I will be looking for many more of your videos. thanks.

  • @jusmeinia7

Of course, they made less too. Using a "comparing US dollar worth throughout time" calc, .20 then is around $1.50 today. Lucky bastards

  • @jusmeinia7 If you are in the USA, your gas is more or less free. In the UK we are paying £6.30 a gallon. That is about $10.08 a gallon. So we look for at least 40mpg when choosing a car. Preferably 70mpg as some do.

  • @jusmeinia7 true, but let's not forget that wages were much lower back then, too. so, the price of gas is just a relative figure. I think there are other factors as well that dictate or drive today's crazy push for "economical and efficient" cars, not just the price of gas.

  • THESE CARS were also easy to work on--even a teenage boy could replace the parts when needed!! unfortunatly, minivans, which are glorified stationwagons are virtually impossible to work on

  • My First car will be a 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air Two-tone Cherry Red and White

  • the world copied the American car industry (see post war/post Marshall plan reconstruction of European/Japanese industry

  • TO EVERYONE

If they made cars today like the 1950s cars but

    they have A.C., stereo, navigation.

    Would you buy them today?

  • @The391956 I think some cars had A.C. back then, but YES, a 50s-looking car with modern features would be the best thing ever! Not a direct copy of any exact car, but a new-design that looks like an actual 50s design. Hey....many people have been asking for such a car since the 1970s! Perhaps when they finally figure out a practical method of hydrogen-powered cars, this dream can become a reality.

  • @MattTheSaiyan Agree

  • @MattTheSaiyan Couldn't agree more. Allot of people (myself included) want the look and feel of the 50's cars to come back. If Detroit could get this threw their head there wouldn't be a Toyota or BMW on the streets of America. As for a power source, lets stick with the 50's, lets have nuclear fusion powered cars.

  • @MattTheSaiyan

They should bring back the vintage design and make them nuclear powered. That would be awesome.

  • @hotdogman67 Fallout 3 and New Vegas :)

  • @asianiinvasion

    Glad someone got it. (;

  • @The391956 ever heard of chip foose?

  • @The391956 yep...i would indeed

  • Hot rods!!

  • The 1956 Chevrolet is *still* the best looking car on the road!

  • @cypherpunko My 1956 FORD was better looking. And the 1956 Canadian FORD Meteor was the prettiest car of all in the 1950s, even the sainted '57 Chevy.

  • Gee it's a real treat!

  • Cars were much more stylish back then, today they just care about how fast the car goes. Thumbs up if you agree

  • Yes... I would surly like to step into that long low distintive Bel Aire Sport coupe and try out it's get up and go. These commercials are pricless...great thanks for posting them.

  • '55 & 57s were gorgeous cars, but, I always found the 56 a bit frumpy and the tailights were just plain ugly

  • i think i will stick to my volvo...

  • Comment removed

  • @noaanhc And people of 2060 will laugh about cars of 2010 and their 'security measures'. Evolution, that's what happened 'til 50's. Don't compare classic cars with the today's vision, simply don't match.

  • @noaanhc that's like telling a caveman he would be better off with electricity

  • Theyre still the best looking cars on the road!!!

    <3

  • Mid 50's Chevys were very nice. I wouldn't mind being able to have one.

  • Dashboards were so cool back then. And I think the seats were five feet wide ... great for taking a nap on road trips as a kid ! Never was in a wreck, never saw a wreck.... so I didn't have a worry in the world ! Oh, how I miss those days.

  • They dont make em like that no more =C

  • ahh... the 50's a time where every toy was a cool toy, where anybody can afford it, where cars were cars, nothing ever exaggerated just shows what it does plain and simple

  • @NICKOLSandDIMES well it seems to me like it was the time that major corporations could get away with complete lies on TV. Now they can only do that in mexico.

  • @onlyadot I see complete lies on TV all the time, to this day.

  • crappy cars!

  • there's enough STEEL in that coupay to build 10 Toyotas. Matter of fact, that's exactly where Toyotas DO come from...

  • I never hear it called a coupe-ay before. How interesting. Fucking deathtraps. The dashboards are steel for crying out loud.

  • gm lost touch with us went the import way need to re think i have my 56,,ans 6 corvairs...none for sale

  • i just love 50s cars they looks so kool

  • FUCK YEA CHEVY ALL THE WAY!!!! ford sucks and dodge is second best.

i want a 54 chevy coupe so bad.

  • saved me in a 55 mph crash.....and i still have it..it would kill an import

  • 5 years ago a brand new Toyoto run head on into a clasic 1956 ford crown Vic Killed all 4 passengers in the Toyoto with air bags and seat belts on and the old 70 years old couple in the 56 Classic walk away with a few bruises they were wearing there seat belts. The New Toyoto was flaten but the classic's whole front end was crushed in the rest of the car was intacked so just cut the car off from the fire wall and put another one on with new enigin . They were tanks back then

  • I wish they still made these cars, but that they were updated with A.C, stereo, etc..

They would sell like crazy im sure!

  • It would have a.c. American cars have had since 1940. Electric windows and soft tops.

  • ac was made then too..very rare

  • @erick,

    You're not kidding Brotha!

Bring back those classics and the US auto industry would make a tremendous comeback.

    Goodbye recession!

  • @erick103 You got my vote. identical body style. update the drivetrain and materials butI'd want one.

  • @erick103

They've already tried that...it's called the HHR.

  • @erick103 Yeaa thatd be great but thats why people Kustomize thier vintage cars to suit thier needs thats called hot roddin but thats a story for another day

  • AHH! the happy days
