maybe use a wheel with more mass/weight? that way, the wheel's momentum would push it past the block, instead of the wheel just stopping upon hitting the block?
It could be possible but Styrofoam is more difficult to cut and shape finely. I have shaved some of the blocks to get them just right, a little here and a little there.

Maybe instead of using wood you could use styrofoam, so that it would require less force to lift.
