"Sometime, somewhere, a more dramatic and exhilarating confluence of music with moment may have existed than Bruce Springsteen's appearance tonight at the 37th annual Jazz & Heritage Festival here. But in nearly 40 years of concert-going, I haven't witnessed one."
@sa65cn1 AND I SAY YOU SIR, CAN GO TO HELL. NEW ORLEANS IS HERE AND WE AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE. I AM FROM LOUISIANA AND NOW LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS, GOING TO SCHOOL AND WORKING AS PART OF ITS SERVICE INDUSTRY- THE BACKBONE OF OUR ECONOMY. WE DON'T NEED YOUR NEGATIVITY; WE NEED MORE OF THE YOUNG BLOOD THAT'S COMING IN WITH FRESH ATTITUDES TO HELP THIS CITY GET BACK TO WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE. THE SAINTS ARE HELPING, THE MOVIE INDUSTRY IS HELPING, THE TULANE STUDENTS ARE HELPING. A CHANGE IS GON' COME.
It was my first time in NOLA, and I was stage left, right up front for this performance, I have NEVER been to a concert where there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Grown men were weeping by the end of Bruce's performance. Deeply touching! I truly got a feeling of why this city is so special: the people who call it home, and those of us who would in a second!
Have heard Bruce sing this numerous times at numerous concerts etc- but I never seen him sing it with such passion as this recording. He seems really pissed of and rightly so - go on the Boss
Bruce Springsteen is an American hero. The man stands for everything America is supposed to be, he is an honest representation of what true patriotism is, and is above blind faith as any intelligent person is. About the singing? Anyone who says he "Can't" sing knows nothing about singing. He was in key for the entire song, and delivered it with more power and ease then an American Idol winner ever could...and at the same time being a true artist.
Bruce is a beautiful man with a wonderful voice. He is one of the most compassionate artists ever, his passion is shown by the way he sings and the heart he puts into the song.
I have seen Springsteen about 10 times. I saw him on this last tour he was 56 at the time. I only wish every could look and sound as good as he does at 56 years old. The scratchy voice, my guess is it was toward the end of a 3hr Bruce show. He is not bitter, he is honest. I hope he never retires because he keeps getting better.
Who ARE these people who posted these comments? This is Springsteen- he's always helped; he's always been genuine and true; and he's always played his heart out. Thanks, Bruce!
no disrespect to bruce, but he cant sing any more. i dont know why he cant sing anymore. mabey its because he did drugs or its because he is just getting old. the boss needs to retire
The boss never did drugs and this is his best stuff to date i mean he took on a whole new thing and it works no wonder he didnt do another american tour because they never apperciate bruce unlike the Eurpoeans who couldn't get enough of his concerts
im not saying i dont appreciate bruce, and im not saying he did drugs, i thought he smoked or something, i thought thats why is voice is scratchy, he is just getting old i am not disrespecting him, i think its a good song
i do have good taste in music, i am not saying that bruce springsteen cant sing all i am saying is that his voice is scratchy, he still can perform but his voice is scratchy, all i was trying to say was is he getting old, i just thought mabey he should retire because he is aged.
is not "taste" very subjective? How can one have "good" or "bad" taste? Also, this a terribly mixed recording of this song. Check out the version from letterman or leno or whatever it was...
Bruces voice did grow and mature with age, it is still
powerful. I have seen him 3 times last year and he has
learned to do more with his voice then when he was younger. He sould never retire! The man is like the finest wines out there...they just get better and better....
Should Martin Scorsese too retire because he's getting old? I saw him live recently- nothing could even compare to his superb performance. Listen to the music around at the moment, we will possibly never see the like of him around again. He gives 100% every time and we should be honoured that he is still willing to do so.
happy fest 2011
