I seriously never understood why Jack didn't believe the button was real. I can't remember if they ever showed his reaction to the hatch exploding. Somebody'd look pretty silly.

What I really didn't like was how he was chastising Desmond, whose been mentally tortured by the button for three years. "Every. Single. Day." great realistic response.

Jak asked Locke why was it so easy for him to believe, well the island healed Locke so he saw first hand from the beginning that it was a special place. He saw the Smoke Monster face to face. From the beginning it was about searching for answers for Locke while for the others survivors it was about going home. But you can't really blame them because they hadn't seen the island work in such a way as Locke had.

This scene pretty much sums up what LOST is all about. In other shows, they would have spent time taking the whole thing apart mechanically to figure things out, but instead, here they rely on faith that it will simply prevent something bad from happening. Almost mirrors the finale in a way. Makes me appreciate it that much more.

i think the whole idea of the hatch and the button is to test faith. The release of electromagnetic energy, similar to the evil being kept at bay by the island, is held at bay by a combination of faith, a believe in greater purpose (destiny) and more importantly can be negated by pure unparalleled acts of love such as sacrifice. Desmond's detonation of the hatch, destroying the energy is a metaphor for how the losties could overcome the man in black i think.

The ending is one of the most iconic scenes of Lost and is a perfect presentation of the Jack-Locke conflict we all love. I miss real Locke and wanth im back in the real timeline. :(

"it's never been easy!" Oh my God. Maybe that's why Locke knows so much about the island and all the stuff... he's been travelling in time and he is reliving everything.

Is it possible? that's why he is, from the beginning, try to drop hints at everyone else, so that they can do it right, and somehow survive to the eventual ending of it all (which will take place in S6)
