The thing with the gays who were originally getting sick too is that they were doing tons of poppers because of their aphrodisiacal effects. But poppers are mutagenic, carcinigenic and immunosuppressive. They are also the reason why it's pretty much only gay men that get KS. Heteros tend not to abuse poppers.
Plus if you're taking all those drugs and having mad sex all the time you're going to catch std's and need to go on antibiotics. Some of those guys had been on them for YEARS!

The kids with aids were born to drug addict mothers. We used call them "crack babies". 98% of KS is found in gay males. The other 2% were the people getting it anyway whether through age or weird environmental things.
Not "suddenly". The gay party scene was going strong all through the 70;s. Plus the poppers. Heavy drug use in heteros is found mainly in males. Males tend to engage in more high risk behaviour. I wouldn;t say it "halted". The numbers were never rising much anyway.

Having HIV really means nothing with regard to AIDS . Peroxide IVs will bring viral load down quickly , but most people who don't take drugs never get sick .
