They keelhauled them, which is where they tied them to ropes dropped them in the water, and they would get scraped all over the bottom of the ship and barnacles were all over the bottom, so they'd get all cut up, and would be lucky if they died from drowning, because when they got to the back of the ship, if they were still alive they'd do it over and over again until they died.
