I am an advocate for survivors, mainly because when I was 9, I was raped by my cousin, who was 14. Your story makes every second I have put in with the rape crisis center in my town worth it. If I or my organization can save even one person, it's all worth it. Cyberhug!
Thank you RAINN for all you do from PSAs like this to having a 24 hour hotline to helping victims and letting them know they are not alone. u are the number 1 charity i support
this is an amazing group. if anyone is reading this and still hasnt spoken about what has happened to you, i know its hard. RAINN has a great online hotline, you dont have to actually speak about it, it helped me, hopefully it can help one of you. We will survive.
and for anyone who has been sexually assualted (thats not just rape, thats oral sex, forced touching, etc.) remember IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT! u can provoke someone with what u were or how u act, if ur drunk u still have the right to say no and NOT be assaulted, and just because you love somebody does not mean they can assault you or force you to do anything you dont want to.
get help, even if you do feel alright, becuz it can and will come back.
if you dont want to tell ur parents, dont, just tell someone who can help you. as much as i want my friend (who was raped as a chid) to tell her parents i know i cant force her and i definiteyly will not tell them for her. it is her decision, and now that she has told me we r working on getting her hep and healing her.
if a friend tells u they were assaulted, try with all u got in u to make them GET HELP.
I never thought I would be one of those one in six until it happened. I took me a long time to realize that I shouldn't be ashamed and what happened in no way was my fault.
I was 9 when it happened to me (I'm male) and even in the 32 years since, I still have those feelings. But it's why I am an advocate for survivors. It's never your fault, and just remember, "Don't believe those voices"!!! :)
You're not alone. You're not responsible for what they did to you. Break the Silence. Speak Out. Tell Someone. Call the Rape Abuse Incest National Network at 1 800 656 HOPE
I would love to use this, or at least present this to our Women's Resource Center. We're working hard with The Red Flag Campaign right now on campus, in full swing with SAAM and I'd love to show this video to the person leading all of this. Would it be alright if at some point we used it, completely giving RAINN full credit because you guys are amazing and honestly saved my life, during one of our events throughout the month?
For those who might need it, the site "Resurrection After Rape" (google it) offers a free "bonus download" guide called "A parent's guide to helping a daughter who has been raped" and one called "A man's guide to helping a woman who has been raped." This is NOT spam; I am not selling/promoting anything--this resource is completely FREE and is used by many rape crisis programs. I just hope it helps someone.
This is awesome! I wish they had this kind of help/support when I was in HS (83-87), I could have had someone to talk to/get help from, that I held in until my Senior yr, it was too late to report then. I've had this happen 3 other times since then, the last in '04. W/ it being the 4th/total '83-'04 it's been so hard to deal w/ on a daily basis! PTSD affects u in ways you can't imagine until it brings u down & breaks you completely! <3 it, the support & info! :)
if you are raped or sexually assaulted, please report it to the police. even if it never gets to court, it will stay on their record if they are ever charged again. and it will make them think twice.
I've watched this three times now and I'm still crying. Very powerful. Very moving. Thank you for putting this out there. I will link to it at my blog, Twitter, etc.
