  • 408 Km/h at top speed. EPIC

  • 245mph down the Mulsanne........simply incredible

These days were lucky to see 210mph

  • Per FIA World Motor Sport Council's decision yesterday, the World Championship is back. "FIA World Endurance Championship 2012", can you believe this? Essentially the current Intercontinental Le Mans Cup will become it. This is a huge step.

  • magic stuff

  • 2 ppl are rednecks

  • horrible commentator

  • Amazing Machines !

  • rofl, :20 - stating the obvious :S

  • Man, Le Mans was so much better in the 1980s. You had a proper Mulsanne Straight, and cars like rockets. Nowadays the rule books ruin it, but back then, it was a race above them all!

  • SHUT UP!!!

  • Comment removed

  • they should have left the straight how it was......

  • That pit does not look safe with 300 people leaning over the car.

  • the tree porsches

  • Jan Lammers!!

  • it would be great if group c cars would still drive now. i loved them =(

  • I like the Jaguar XJ-R9 Race car '88

  • I LOVE her.

  • me too .... It's amazing.

  • Have been a Le Mans 14 times. I Think it was better in the "old" days.

  • bring it back.

  • yes just 1 year and no nanny chicanes

  • lol

  • R.I.P Group C!

  • Group C cars where amaezing :D

  • @DJLauth Best sportscar era .

  • 1:35 at 1:41--->I love speed!!!!

  • Question:

For the Jaguar Team, how they change the rear tires?

  • The panels covering the rear wheels are either removable or hinged like gull wing doors.

  • 20 years ago today, the race was comleted - June 12, 1988

  • in this Le Mans my favourite cars do not are the Jaguar XJ-R9 is the Minolta toyota 89CV ^^

  • sorry not la hunadires straight the mulsanne straight!

  • la hunadires straight is crazily massive

    250mph in '88 crazy!

  • Yeah, I can imagine those dangerously fast speeds they can go to.

In 1990, Mulsanne now has 2 chicanes to accomodate the safety reasons. :(

  • In Hunaudieres in 88, top speed has been 405 km/h...

  • Those were awesome cars with brave men driving those group C bullets

  • agree entirely

  • in my opinion, no one get mad at me for this, but in my opinion the greatest drivers on earth are the ones who are in endurance races such as the 24 hours of lemans and win them. Its possibly the toughest type of racing, if you think about it...rally is up there

  • Not really, because many former F1 drivers leave F1 and do well in Lemans. It doesn't work the other way around, look at Allan Mcnish. Also, Lemans is a place for drivers who are too old for single seaters to race and still be competitive. Look at guys like Johnny Herbert, Mika Salo, etc. etc.

  • has kristiansen, biela, pirro or any of those guys been in f1, i forget

  • I'm not sure about those guys, but I know Kristinsen had a few tests with Minardi and Williams. Single seater guys seem to take Lemans pretty well, heck even someone who's horrible in F1 like Alex Yoong doesn't look bad in Lemans. Not to put Lemans down, because it's awesome, but I think F1 is the pinnacle or racing.

  • i'm not saying the most talented drivers are strictly lemans drivers, what i'm saying is that the best drivers in the world, whether they're from nascar, f1, irl, rally or whatever, the drivers that can win endurance races like the 24 hour of lemans in my opinion are considered the best of the best

  • Pirro was in F1 sometime in the early 90s i think. Kristensen was a test driver at best.

  • @Porsche911GT1 Pirro was at one point with Benetton in 1989, one of the top team s in Formula One, and was leading the German Grand Prix for a few laps at one point.

  • i think pirro raced in f1 in 88 or 89 but i'm not sure about the rest!

  • danny sullivan too, he raced for tyrell in 83, others who were in f1 in 1988 le mans was jan lammers, johnny dumfries, mario n michael andretti, dereck bell, hans stuck, bruno giacomelli, jarier, belmondo, katayama, john watson, brundel, and i think larry perkins was an f1 driver too in the 70's, think there might have been a few others too, quite a few there mind

  • How about DTM. A lot of former F1 drivers (Hakkinen), and some of the former F1 drivers aren't all that great (but they weren't hot at F1 either).

DTM is certainly the pinnacle of touring cars, and ranks high among the list.

  • Do you have the 1989 edition??? I could kill to see it!!!

  • its one of the few races in the 80s i don't have.

  • I HATE formula 1 but love Le Mas!My favorite cars are,the BMW Mclrean F1 LM Race Csar,Jaguare XJ220 LM Race car, also the Nissan R390 GT1 raod Car amd Race Car.Plus theNissan R2CP LM Race Car 1998.And the best for last Auodi R10 LM P1

  • the toyota gt1 had a good shot of winning in 98 and 99.

  • They were very fast in 1998 but the gearboxes was what stop them from winning. 1999 was a tough year, Crashes and flat tires ended any chance. Plus BMW had special AP brakes that reduced the need to change pads.

  • WOW! Look all these BEAUTIFUL and FAST LE MANS cars. They were beautiful till 2005 when Audi came with a TDi car. That's not exactly beautiful one.

  • that's nearly 1 minute of full throttle on the Mulsanne

  • Aquilo...sim ...

    eram carros

  • the silk cut jaguars were simply BEAUTIFUL!

  • This is so cool of you to post these older sports car races(especially Lemans 1998!) More Please!

  • What a way to destroy a circuit and a legend all the big names of the race porsche, jaguar, mercedes withdraw slowly after this decision yes the race still has the charisma but not anymore the longest, fastes straigth in the motor racing world that maked lemans unique. the indy 500 the cars reach 230 miles an hour the aco should fight back in court and put back the mulsanne straight without those ugly chicanes.

  • Does anybody knows that they took away the mulsanne straight because the tv rights? the fia and the aco was fighting for the tv rights and in 1990 the fia went to court that lemans was a very dangerous race and that 2 chicanes must be put there.

  • i didn't know that, i just thought the FISA put in place regulations that limited the maximum length of straights, not to mention favour the 3.5L prototype class. i watched Le Mans 1991 and it said p[art of the agreement was to install those two chicanes....

  • Actually i have the 1990 lemans race and they explaing about the fisa and aco problems about tv rights Did You know that the 1989 lemans was not part of the world sporst car championship? because of the tv rights. anyway Jaguar won the 1987 and 1988 championchip but lemans is lemans and is more important than winning any championship.

  • i see, then i can't wait to get the vid;) i knew it wasnt part of the championship but i didn't know everything was focused on tv rights. i'm sure a big part of it was that the FIA was scared it would rival F1 and its a shame the ACO lost out.

  • Yes, if you see lemans was very difficult to win with the full mulssane straight it took Jaguar 3 years to win the race and they have to almost killed the powerful works porsche team, yeah if Klaus Ludwig would not had lose that board and refuel one lap before. Porsche could had won that race. And even mercedes could not even race in this 1988 version, Klaus Niedwigz almost killed himself in practice. because og aerodinamics and suspension problems.

  • great times for sportscar racing, the cars were mad on the straights and sounded amazing :)

  • I've been to Le-Mans 7 time's since the mid-90's, and i really do wish that i was around to see these Group-C car's in their prime.

  • Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes, Nissan, Toyota and Peugeot had change to win then nowadays only Audi´s cars wins.

  • Thanks a lot for this vid ! That was my very first year at Le Mans !! Lots of memories !

  • Good times. Now? Asseptic days...

  • Maybe I'm just an idealist but Le Mans is just a type of race that no matter how the tides of motorsport are changing, it is still an incredible and unparalleled event.

  • Nice upload!

  • this is great!

Thanks, thanks for this amazing video!

Incar scenes, with the cars flying at a speed close to the 400 km/h (that year the WR Peugeot 88 reached a top speed of 405 km/h...)

  • Yeah but the engine broke shortly after. All the ducts were taped off. Peugeot entered it to do a speed run

  • They came back in the early 90's to win the event though and they're coming back again now!

  • Great video where do you find all these vids from.

  • look at the description

    cheers

  • Cool
