  • Thumbs up bro! I got mine cheaper at tools.com

  • you can get 2 new dewalt batterys for only $98 so by the time you buy this shit you cold buy 2 new dewalt batterys for the same price and not have your drill 2 feet long

  • WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 18 volts is CRAP

  • What do you title it on eBay if you are wanting to buy one

  • Neat but ryobi batteries suck not only does the charge last half a dewalt but the overall life expectancy is far less despite ryobi claims. FACT one dewalt 18 volt out last three ryobi. I experienced this experiment with a used dewalt battery and New ryobi when myself and a friend built a deck with both 18 volt sets. The guy doesn't seem to know about the two pack of dewalt for only 99.

  • Love this concept, so you buy a Dewalt kitbox (which generally comes with 2 3.0ah batteries, and a 1hr charger. Under normal use the average 3ah battery will last nearly 1 hour. So by the time the first one depletes, the second one is charged.......... I only have two hands, so in which reality would I need a modified battery housing to use a cheaper branded battery (of course Dewalt batteries are soooo expensive *cough*)

  • Hello just a questio please.

    so its possible 18X2=36 V ?????

  • just put the ryobi batts in the dewalt casing, that way you can still use the dewalt charger is well.

  • save money and have an arm like a body builder at the same time!!!...

    garbage.

  • bit bulky isnt it? dewalt batteries are much, much, MUCH better than ryobi - ryobi are crap

  • why not just put better cells in the dewalt battery case? simpler yet and cheaper then this

  • its hideous

  • terrible invention

  • how do i make that?

  • dewalt batterys are not that great people the drills are good. ryobi batterys alright there drills just suck so bad they drain faster.

  • I know this has been a while since the guy made this; but you can get a 2 pack of 18v XRP batts for the dewalt from amazon for 99.00 shipped. Honestly his invention is... creative; but NOT practical for the avid tool user by ANY means.

  • great for when you want to nig rig your drill and for getting in those tight places! retrofit battery fail if you cant afford the right battery sell the tools

  • has anyone tried to open the ryobi battery casing and intstall the cells in the case of the dewalt??

  • Great item.....Where can I get one.....What do I type in on Ebay?

  • Great item.....Where can I get one.....What do I type in on Ebay?

  • i think its pretty cool. The cost of the dewalt 18v battery is outrageous! Where can i get this?

  • i think its pretty cool. The cost of the dewalt 18v battery is outrageous!

  • F-ing spellcheck dewalt not freaky

  • Freaky actually did make a cordless recip saw in 24 volts which came with an ac adapter that fit just like a battery.

  • actually, i did one of this... and it worked out good and it is NOT heavy like everybody else thinks it is. i've also turned 18v craftsman radio, ryobi radio and flashlight to work with 18v dewalt's battery.

  • stupid idea add about 2 more lbs to the weight of the tool...FAIL

  • crazy

  • Why don't you try taking apart one of your dead dewalt battery packs and put in an 18 volt power supply with an extra long cord (10-25 or even 50 meters) that you can plug into a wall outlet, and only use the rechargeable battery when working on places where a wall outlet isn't handy?

    OR

take apart your dead dewalt battery pack and put in a series of D-cell battery receptacles that would house in 12 rechargeable D-cell batteries.

  • You buy a DeWalt and safe money by battery???

    omg

  • How much does it cost to cut up a ryobi to make the adapter ? compared to...puting new cells in the dewalt housing 8)

  • Any body know of an 18V battery housing with a cord? (So when the battery inevitably dies and you forget to charge another one, you can through on a corded adapter and continue work)

  • @TacticalTechAdm Shouldn't be too DIY...

  • @TacticalTechAdm im sure with a little bit of money and basic knowledge of electronics you could find an 18 volt transformer and cut up an old battery pack to make something like that on your own

  • @reap62 Yeah, but i would end up buying about 7 of them for work, probably in both 110V and 220 if i had to, and i would want to get something reliable. I really don't want to be the one making all of them and having to explain why im using funds to buy 18V adapters and batteries just to tear them apart. Be a lot easier if DeWalt just had them available

  • @TacticalTechAdm well i dont work for dewalt sorry cant help you there but if you just want to make one for whatever around you house or something then just tear apart the next battery that starts to get old and not hold a charge other than that i dont know what to say your kind a outta luck

  • @reap62 I'll have to find an 18V adapter and give it a shot. I only buy 36V tools at home, but appreciate the confidence

  • @TacticalTechAdm make sure you get a high amp one, try radioshack or whatever hobby shops are around where you live you can usually find a pretty cheap one that will atleast work for a prototype and if you like it then you can buy a better one for a final version

  • End of the day, I'm not that rich I could buy cheap things! Eventually Ryobi tools and batteries worked out to be the most expensive crap there is as batteries did not last at all, tools weren't worth more than a peanuts even after only a year of use (and being maintained, as I always keep my tools in utmost care) so I beared a loss and got myself a DeWalt 28V system (Made in Germany! not Asia or Mexico) and this is a different category! Unfortunately I did not reach to a Festool yet! Thanks lol

  • De-Walt however is designed professional in mind so are their batteries! I work most of time on site with no power supply, so have my batteries to last min. 9 hours and take a constant cutting of 9x2 spruce lumber, plywood, drilling 1/2" by 10" holes into concrete, fixing 1/2 anchors into same and so on and on! I don't care to carry a generator with me all time so cordless is pretty much the only choice! Had Ryobi "top range Li-Ion" - one word -shait!

  • That's an absolutely ludicrous idea mate, good humor thou, thanks for great laugh! I'm an professional builder/carpenter for last 28 years and being using most hand- as well power tools so I know thing or two about! Ryobi really is for DIY guys tinkering occasionally in Sundays in their garage! It's enough to read their warranty card - warranty is invalid if any of their tools is being used commercially e.g. by any professionals - enough said!

  • i bet these new lion batterys would make a pritty big bomb if u tyed a load of em together lets hope bin lardem never relizes this

  • If only they made power tools to accept cheap generic rechargeable D cells or P9's.

  • are u serious, u need a step ladder to reach the trigger

  • I have a Makita radio and noticed one day that my Ryobi 18 volt fit in the back, seems to be no prob!

  • I had a black and decker drill and other tools similiar and the battery packs didn't last or give much power, and the drill was weak, however, when I got a black and decker portable power station I have been using a really old standard plugin cord drill that has been dropped many times and it is still better than the cordless one by far, except for the keyless chuck.

I wish there was a purchasible product that you could get at store to that converted the battery pack into extension cord.

  • @KnightChatX Check out my video on converting an 18 volt Dewalt battery into an externally powered unit. Easy to do with a Dewalt battery.

  • What mean is instead of using a battery pack use some kind of adapter that converts it for use as a cord powered drill.

  • dewalt batties don't last long, you're better off with a milwaukee.

  • One case where an extra 3" isn't such a good thing.

  • this looks completely ridiculous. good idea, but just not practical. If you're into DeWalt you know DeWalt is the best. You get what you pay for!

  • Nice and light.......

  • someone should make an adaptor that converts 110V wall power to 18VDC or an adaptor that lets u run the drill off a car lighter socket or right off the car battery.

  • @coondogtheman1234

i bought a cheapo hilka cordless drill out of B&Q a few years ago (before I discovered the beauty of quality power tools) but the battery life was pathetic so i stripped it and soldered in a two core cable with a set of light duty car battery clips on it.. it wasn't cordless any more but the torque it put out after the mod was unbelievable!!

  • @ged4x4

I plan to do a similar thing to an 18 volt drill. I'm gonna hack one of the batteries and build a cord into it and run that to a car cigarette lighter.

  • This was made by the person who put this video up thats what i think. but it dose work and its a very good idea i would love to know how you did it??? good job. by nyclightsnyc

  • Really handy I must say.... YOU CAN EVEN

ATTACH A CAR BATTERY TO ADD WEIGHT:-)

  • That drill is already unpleasant to work with, this makes it worse.

  • But the DeWalt battery is the best part of the DeWalt. It would be like buying a Ford truck and then taking out the rear-end. I have heard a lot of people deepthroating about Li-Ion and I will admit it is lightweight & compact but in terms of brute power, low operating temperatures and longevity, DeWaly XRP batteries are still king.

  • @soccerboyd10 GOOD POINT i have used ryobi li ion and they over heat too fast

  • Dewalt is in the stone ages using CR2400 (2400 mAhr) Sanyo Nicads. I think they bought a "decade supply" and have to use them or lose them. The Ryobi Li-Ion is superior to the Dewalt nicad pack -period.

  • I Think this adapter is too big but anyway I would like to know how much it cost and where can I get it?

  • ryobi is 1.7ah and dewalt is 2.6ah so rip off

  • @man9170

how did you do your math 1.7 +1.7=3.4 $60(2) is more than 2.6($100)

rip off ? Do the math. your comment makes no sense.

  • but dewalt battry is so good and the ryobi is so crap

  • @man9170 say what you want it is how you treat them i have never had probs with them.

  • @juggernautxtr my ryobi has had 2 defecdive battries and they dont hold there charge for a month and my dewalt holds it for 3 months but they are ni-cd

  • @man9170 means you must not use your tools. any battery that sits around doing nothing is going to go bad or discharge.

  • @juggernautxtr i mean 2 defective robi battries dewalt 0! but i use my dewalt all the time but i never use my ryobi so

  • 2 packs of battieries are too heavy to use handle / hold

  • Go and buy Black & Decker FireStorm series batteries, they fit dewalt tools directly, cost twice less, but also work not so good as original.

  • @hangebicom

thats because black and decker makes dewalt

  • One thing you could try also is to change the internal battery packs for a Ryobi juste re-installing them in the same order resoldering them as the Dewalt packs are , I do own a multitude of dewalt batteries operated tools and I never pay $89 for them even worst here in canada they sell them $120.00 so I buy them from discount store like toolking with a reconditioned tools and they end up getting them for $30 with a free spare tools package .

  • This is almost cool... the only problem is your adapter is way too big. People are willing to pay the difference for a flat screen flat pannel tv and get rid of the old clunky tube for a reason. Sleek light compact. a three inch adapter is rediculous. you almost have yourself a great product keep working on it. Im not trying to discourage you but im trying to give you constructive criticizm. If that doesnt work Ill erase this comment and try a different approach

  • and we expect to beat China to the Moon again?

  • Good job,

Ever think about using the 1.2 volt Sub-C cells from the ryobi to replace your bad dewalt cells??

.... I would have cut down the old dewalt as close to the clip as i could. wow thats a fatty!

  • AGUSTIN MARXA!

  • Hilti 18v lihium ion CPC is covered by the manufacture for 2 years at no cost. That's 2 years unlimited batteries. Warranty includes wear and tear. No fine print

    Hilti. Outperform. Outlast

  • @calartian85 Rockwell will beat the deal that Hilti gives. Rockwell offers free batteries for life. even lithium batteries

  • Sound like dummy to buy something to try to save in otherthing, is not the same cost ?? because I'm sure that adapter is not forever like the battery. so you will buy a Ryobi battery and the adapter mmmm.... no sound good

  • Looks heavy.

  • that is not even worth it suck it up everything cost more now days

  • this man has breasts.....!

  • wtf whos gonna use that massive b******

  • wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to big

  • good idea but the battery pack is twice the size of the drill, in hvac it might be tough to fit all of that where i need to get it, how easy is it to swap the cells out?

  • edstar83 > ".. buy ryobi power tools. why pay twice as much .."

In my case, the decision was based on the sheer breadth of Dewalt cordless tools. Ryobi has only a limited selection of the tools they do offer (one 18v drill, one 18v circular saw, one 18v jig saw, etc), while also not offering several additional tools available from Dewalt (sheet metal shear, circular saws with larger blades, higher voltage tools, etc). Also a greater selection of third-party accessories for the Dewalt tools.

  • That's pretty good! there's all kinds of ways to save. thanks for the idea!

  • Just take the cells out off the ryobi and put them in the dewalt

  • I BUY my DEWALT drills and batteries at the PAWN SHOP $30 bucks drill 2 batts and charger and case..... the pawn guy saves them for me

  • lucky , i paid 60 for a slightly used porter cable ,

  • if they rip you off with the battery they rip you off with the power tools

  • just buy ryobi power tools. why pay twice as much for the same battery just different name on it.

  • Your adapter is too thick

  • now the battery looks like a gmc24v the battery is as big as the drill

  • dude where can u get the 2 pk of batts for 39$ thnx

  • The point is not only because Ryobi battery are cheap, but because there are differents way to power you cordless tools, like the guy that connected the drill to 12 volts batt. car maybe sound cheap, but sometimes you just need to make one cut with your cordless saw, you dont have time to wait one hr or 30 mins. to make that cut, you have no outlet close, but you have you 12 volt batt. in your car so why not ? What if we can do the same cordless saw work with 110 v. just to make a simple cut ?

  • I like the idea, $ 90.oo for a Dewalt battery vs $40.oo 2 ryobi makes a difference, I have Dewalt tools and I have to say I'm not 100 % happy with them, I have some Ryobi tools and I think they do the job with no problems, and they are affordable you can replace it easer, I droped my $250.00 Dewalt drill in a job, (I still having nigthmares) Last Xmas I get the ryobi drill and flash ligth+2 batteries for $120.00 thats the one I'm using in my jobs and works as new, :-)

  • Home Depot and Lowes has 2 dewalt batteries for $120 and on Black Friday 2 batteries and a drill for only $100

  • 22 year carpenter here, DeWalt is the best for the price there is period, sure milwakee and rigid make a better product but I dont have the money to spend on that shit, its breaks just like any other tool that is used repeatedly. For the money DeWalt is tops! this is a good video because it gives more options to the job site, and to all those that say you cant, get the fuck out of the way of those doing ok?

  • why dont you just take the internal batteries from the ryobi and put them in the de walt battery ?

  • INGUINIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dewalt makes the best drills.DC985 heavy duty can't be beat. Milwaukee is also very good

  • I don't get it. Why would you go through all that work instead of buying dewalt batteries at a discount on ebay or somewhere else. This is like the guy who showed how to wire it to a 12 volt car battery. Are people so cheap nowadays they need to come up with mickey moused ways of using their cordless tools? I use cordless tools everyday, and when the batteries go bad I but new ones.

Stay away from lithium ion batteries for any brand.

They don't last as long as they say and they shut off when

  • fueille do you not have any economic sense whatsoever? Go and buy the Dewalt batteries. A fool and his money will soon be parted.

  • Dewalt tools are crap, you would be better off using a real tool like ridgid or milwaukee. The only people buying dewalt are old guys who dont know what Lithium ion is, the new Dewalt lithium is garbage. What do all the signs and ads say about it??? It fits, but do they say anything about performance? NO, because it actually is worse than their old nicad. Dewalt is falling farther and farther behind the rest of the industry. You are better of with Milwaukee.

  • Dewalt are crap? don't talk rubbish! i have various brand name drills and they all have their goods and bads! quote "The only people buying dewalt are old guys" ??? you sound like a dam child! watch?v=PnF2Uh4oFfg watch?v=87lDX7JBF-Q watch?v=5lg2TMO132c watch?v=jKZfkNYxm5E watch?v=FREM9b8BFqM watch?v=JQK3yfUYqTM watch?v=h8Ypo0Oc35A watch?v=CdVsdmaAWEw watch?v=MVd9-sPJ2WM watch?v=anke6Q6PfB0
  • I have two DeWalt battery charger DE9107 & DE9108 (switching power supply), both are failure!!!

    Crap, crap, crap, crap....!!!

  • ill bet 10bucks all that stuff goes back to

    home depot after this vidoe!

  • if any one wants to make this it easy just buy a ryobi cordless flashlite cut off te bottom, then epoxy it on to a old dewalt battery (with the cells out of course) and thats it ryobi batteries will now fit perfect....some free info

  • LOL, seems like you never had a Hilti in your hands....

  • hilti is mainly aimed towards construction and engineering industry. i dont see any reason for paying extra cash for a hilti for the local tradesman or average user of power tools...but i must admit when it comes to deep core drilling nothing beats hilti.

  • that could turn out very handy to people that used the drills daily.

  • That adapter is seriously big. Could it not be made smaller?

  • Bro, Dewalt and Black & Decker are now the same company. Just a sweet yellow case on the old Black & Decker tools. You should check it out.

  • That's true thou it seems very few people know that. I had been using some B&D cordless drills for years when somebody I worked with made fun of it. I showed him that with a very small modification to the battery socket, dewalt and B&D batteries interchange. That because back then they came from the same factory. He was speechless.

  • All you have to do is look at torque spec's, RPM specs, yada yada I could go on. Dewalt is the best battery operated power-tool available. PERIOD. If you want a cute little drill go buy a black and decker or some garbage. Dewalt is for men who work. PERIOD.

  • Judas Priest! There are so many variables here to consider it's not black and white like that. I can do a better job with a black and decker from the 50s than some of the idiots we've hired who go out and buy all this Dewalt brand name nonsense. I've seen guys use no-name stuff for years while the Dewalt guys go through motors and batteries over and over. Yet they still buy the radio and the jackets etc. I'm not saying DeWalt is bad, It's just not what you're making it out to be.

  • dewalt batteries are pretty shitty, Ryobis dont die and get fucked up if you charge them with a little charge left.

There is a certain style black and decker 18v battery that fits dewalt. Black and decker PS145. Fits all Nicad 18v dewalt drills at 1/2 the price!

  • dewalt is way better though ryobi is a cheap home owner shit

  • Comment removed

  • as a heavy tool user for 15 years. i've used all kinds. including ryobi, crastmwan and black & decker cordless and they either the battery dont hold a charge, charger dont charge or the tool burns up. the only ryobi tool still working is the little portable radio. just like shortkid97 said: ryobi is a home owner toys. Dewalt is real grown men tool. black & decker and dewalt might be the same company that doesnt mean they are made equal.

search dewalt vs other tools in youtube and see 4 u self

  • thats because ryobi NICAD batteries are only good for 650 charges I think. The new lithiums last forever

  • I believe the reason for Dewalt battery price is that it's not only using a Lion battery but it's also a nano technology battery as well. Which is probably the best battery on the market. I use the 36volt version of thier drill and it's amazing. Stored the charged battery for 6mos before I went to use it and it was still 100% as well as it last a very long time, and the 36volt is extreemely powerfull. fyi

  • @Deanzsyclone theyre also the size of a small car...no offense just pointing it out

  • @reap62 what is the size of a small car? I'm sure your not referring to the battery, I have two of them and that's hardly true if your mean the battery.

  • @Deanzsyclone the adapter with a battery plugged into the bottom of it is like 3 inches taller

  • Why doesnt he just list a way we can buy one from him or a way to contact him so as to get one?

  • Seeing as how you can't sell them on Ebay why don't you just do the tool world a favor and make a video on how you made it. Now that would be an appreciated video!!

  • nice creation, I do however think its too bulky with the 2 battery form factors attached. I wonder could the battery cells be swapped between packs?

  • just buy a ryobi drill

  • Are they UL approved? CE and or CSA approved?

  • I can make these if you send me a dead DeWalt battery and some money.

  • Can you sell them on Craigslist?

  • How can I gfet one?

  • Not practical with the extra length

  • Good idea. To bad ebay doesnt sell them any more. Ill find them some where on the web. Just wish it didnt make the battery so long. Cant it cant be made a little shorter?

  • Why even waste money on extra batteries, don't even buy this drill if you are going to screw things.

  • hi i do hope to hear from you about the battery adapter for 18volt dewalt power tools.so if you can let me know thank you.

  • This was available on ebay, however ebay pulled the listing at the request of DeWalt and their parent company, The Black & Decker Corporation. They claimed the listing violates their intellectual property rights.

  • Ive got a better idea, ditch the cheap tools along with the garbage batteries, buy an AEG, Metabo, Milwaukee, Panasonic, Makita, Hitachi, or Hilti, and have a tool thats built to go the distance as well as a battery you wont replace every 8 or 9 months.

  • Ok, for how much are you selling it and where can I get one?

Sad that big corporations wants you to stick with the monopoly of their proprietary hardware.

  • can I charge the ryobi batteries in dewalt charger?

  • can u help me i cant find the battery adapter on ebay i would love to have 1. ( help )where can i find 1??

  • intelectual property my A**

this is exactly how Big Corporations are screwing the consumer

  • Peter?

  • yeah, thats not gonna add a shit ton of weight to your drill, I know i wont be screwing in any braceing with that garb. Rigid seems to be were its at.

  • I just bought ALL the DeWalt tools from a guy running away from JAIL time. Hahaha... Anyways, is there a way to shorten the adapter? I know it's been thrown out already...

What about putting the Ryobi cells in the DeWalt pack???

I've got several dead packs, as do lotsa' folks...

And lastly, why does my silly "no smoking" trinket work after 15 years. That's right, watch the attached vid...

    Thx, Dr Corvairwild

  • I dumped $3000.00 worth of tools because of the crap batteries. This is a brilliant way of avoiding the crappy Dewalt batteries. I bought Makita XRP kits and in two years I am still using the original batteries. Dewalt Nicads only lasted 6 months at best. This mod is done by obtaining a cheap ryobi tool (flashlight and epoxying the battery socket from it to the bottom of a dewalt battery shell. you will have to connect the batter & flashlight wires together.

  • I thinks its a good idea, but I think it is showing that you are 'cheap'. If you can buy a Dewalt tool, surely you can afford Dewalt batteries. I think it is mainly for people who want to say they own a Dewalt drill, but are not able to afford the new battery. Good concept, but in the end you pay for quality.

  • ive got a dewalt xrp hammer drill and also a drill driver, i bought them both new over 5 years ago, but ive got sick of the rubbish battery quality. Thats why someone has designed a way to use other brand batteries, not because its "cheap" its because dewalt batteries suck

  • Get the full Festool Range theyre really Great tools very good value for money expensive tho and they look cool too.....ive got all dewalt they are ok but festool are leading the market innovation wise woodworkers....

  • Are you kidding! Festool is not all that good, you pay a whopping $1200 Aus for a dust extractor when you can get another brand that is better. You pay for the Festool name not the reliability. Dewalt is a better, tougher product.

  • Thats a good idea to be cheap

    but its got ists issues

    weight

    size and awkaerdness

use your time better and find a way to get your cordless tool corded for more reliable power source.

  • You get what you pay for, Most people have their DeWalt batteries rebuilt for about $40.

  • I have a better idea just. just buy the fuckin ryobi drill. So It only operates at 80% of a Dewalt, THE PRICE IS WORTH IT. Besides unless you are burying a 3 foot lag bolt into concrete you will never notice the difference.

  • This is a super idea! I looked on Ebay and sure enough, there are no items like this for sale. Where can I obtain one of these and what is the cost? Thanks for showing us this inovative adaptor - disregard that othere guy's comments. Saving money these days is a matter of survival!

  • Ebay had this item removed at the request of DeWalt and their parent company Black and Decker, they claimed it violated their intellectual property rights.

  • Who wants a 12 inch battery and a 20lb. screw gun, ya cheap bastard.

  • LOL

  • Maybe if you "follow the leader" tool buyers didn't automaticallly buy Dewalt, they wouldn't be so cocky as to charge $90 for a battery that cost them pennies to make in China.

  • Dewalt is quality. If you can afford quality, buy it.

  • DeWalt is overpriced, well marketed Black & Decker rubbish. If you must buy DeWalt, go to the smaller retailers. The big box stores sell considerably lesser versions. That goes for almost everything they sell.

  • Yeah, Yeah, cry cause you can't have a Dewalt.

But don't knock it for that reason. Ya big ol

    tight ass bastard.

  • Let's see... "can't have a DeWalt". Three 1/2" cordless drills, one 3/8" cordless right angle drill, one corded drywall drill, one cordless reciprocating saw, one cordless circular saw, one corded 1/2" impact wrench, one cordless vac, one cordless jig-saw... Mmmm that's all I can think of now. And that's just the DeWalt crap. I prefer certain products from certain companies (Bosch for jigsaws, Milwaukee for sawzall etc..)

I'd say more like "Ya medium size loose-ass power tool whore".

  • Then why are ya crying...turd.

  • Black and Decker are not bad, its GMC you want to stick away from. So explain to me why a lot of builders have Dewalts then if they are apparently rubbish!

  • Thats to AKING3RD!

  • Oh for heavens sake. DeWalt works perfectly for what it is.. Overpriced, midrange, highly marketed equiptment. The majority of builders are too squeamish to purchase anything but DeWalt or Milwaukee for fear of being characterized as un-American. Pack mentality - along the lines of GM vs Ford vs Toyota rules in the tool world. My point is to carefully select your tools based on real data. Not blind brand loyalty. Regarding this battery retrofit - no, not ever, too damn bulky!
