Idina is the best Maureen in RENT, the best Elphaba in Wicked (No one does Defying Gravity better), brilliant in Glee and an AMAZING Florence too. She sings this and many other Chess songs very well, including Heaven Help My Heart and I Know Him So Well - another beautiful duet. In fact, I think she could portray almost any role and sing almost any song. BTW, I LOVE IDINA <3

@cljens I'm sorry, but I don't agree. I will admit that Idina's voice isn't as conventional as Elaine's, but it's at least as technical and developed. Personally I love her tone.

I think "utter blasphemy" is a bit far... Considering Idina's got such devoted fans, I'd say it was also a bit reckless - opening yourself up to being attacked...

Everyone is intitled to their own opinion but i still think they're ridiculous! :p Idina is AMAZING! She is a legend and maybe sometimes she doesn't go all out but who cares!? That's just her.. Idina isn't someone who you can look at in a perfesional way. And that's why so many people love her. She knows how to enjoy herself and not be so fake... she is insperational no matter what or how she is singing. I love her to death because of all of her!

I love Idina in other roles, don't get me wrong, but I think she was miscast. Her voice comes off as really strident and with no nuances. I mind that more than her "nasal-ness". Florence's role calls for more emotional sensitivity, not just belting.

I actually prefer idina's voice in things like this where she has to show the different dimensions to her voice rather than the beltfest that is wicked. Her voice is definitely the love it or hate it type. But i think she proved that, even if you don't care for her voice, she's definitely a talented vocalist.

I'll say it again: Groban has a rich, full voice with a uniquely beautiful color. Menzell's voice is thin, shrill and screechy at the top. Sorry to offend, but it's the truth.

Its not the truth, if it were the truth then it would have to be accepted by everyone as the truth, and I know plenty of people who think Idina's voice is not thin and think it is rich and unique, just cuz you think somin doesnt mean its fact.

But the way they use their voices is part of their characters. Groban plays the Russian, who is much stronger and more confident in himself, so he uses a full voice.

In contrast, Menzel's Florence is doubtful of herself and reluctant to act in haste, so her voice is more hesitant.

Not that He cant sing this. Because he can and he is amazing at it... But his voice isnt built for it. He is more classicaly trained. Whereas her voice has been trained for these big meoldys. I think that is what MaxAgond is trying to say. :)
