One of the things I like best about the whole Henry story is the irony of his single minded pursuit of a male heir, when Elizabeth turned out to be one of the strongest and most memorable rulers Britain has ever known. (with Victoria pretty much being the other one). So much for the boys...
Also Henry VII looked like this when he died: marileecody dotcom henry7/henry7deathmask.jpg ... How hard would it have been to find an actor that looked LIKE him to belt out a few lines?
@mmurray1983 I do recall one historical documentary saying that Henry VIII CLAIMED his dad had said this, but it was likely that he hadn't- it was probably his own idea.
@garahehe Thank you for being insulting when telling me I was wrong. It is gratifying to know that the first Commandment of Youtube Commenting "thou shalt always be a dick" is still alive in some people. Keep the faith, man.
........................henry vii never told him o take katherine as his wife....infact he FORCED him to take back the engagement!! henry viii married her on his own after his father croaked!!! wtf?!?! historical inaccuracies strikes AGAIN!!! V_V;
One major discrepancy already. Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of the King, was born in 1519, ten years following the accession of Henry to the throne. In the movie, he is born fifteen years after Henry comes to the throne.
yes. this was going on up to the time of princess diana. it was to ensure that the child was not swapped. royal blood was ensured, but eventually they became in-bred. it's spooky isn't it? but in those days royals were worshiped. times have changed. imagine if the news of the world wre reporting in henry's day.!!!!
Good start. Very dramatic. I have a feeling this is going to be a fast-paced film given the eventful, legacy it is following. Not too sure about Ray Winstone though, in his youth Henry was meant to be one of the most handsome princes in Europe. Winstone makes him look old and obese before his time.
I like how they actually start at the beginning, he says about keeping the Scots at bay - it was the wif he discarded, Catherine, who did that! Aww its sad when he thinks Henry is Arthur they should have showed Hnery and Catherine when they were young :(
Arthur?
No father it is me, Henry

@Tekirai Exactly. I'm glad I'm not the only who knows that. Also,
the king could have allowed Henry Fitzroy to succeed him if he wanted,
though the boy died young too.

actually its the male that determines the sex .we men give the sperm that fertilize the eggs not the women. and he did have a son by Jane Seymour.

The actor who plays young Henry VIII at the start is called Sid Mitchell. For a second is looked like Michell as in Keith!
