Your videos help me understand how my son may be feeling about diabetes. Dx two years now, starting to feel like we have a life again. The pump has really helped us with that, I think!
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS VIDEO! I am a mother of two Type 1 Boys. Every year their Elementary school does School Walk for Diabetes as a fundraiser. My boys are often asked to speak about Diabetes to the students during the School Walk kick-off assembly. This year I want to show the student body this video at the assembly. It's perfect! Love the humor, too. :)
@MrMikeLawson I wish you'd distinguish between type 1 and type 2...! only maybe 5% of the entire diabetes population has type 1, it's still rare, we are still considered a 'rare' bred. Also, insulin does not help us control our D, IMO, it only helps us 'manage' it. Type 1 is not caused by genetics, NO ONE in my family EVER on any side, EVER has had any form - type of diabetes, 1 or 2. Frankly, we (they) have NO clue as to why our islet cells are killed off during the autoimmune attack.
@christopherone1 Thanks for the comment. I agree that the line between types is blurred frequently, but I'd also argue that many of the difficulties we face (regardless of the type) have a crossover. And I have personally found great comfort in the entire diabetes online community (regardless of type).
As far as control vs manage...I have control some days and some days I don't. If you're struggling for control, maybe you should make a YouTube vid of your own and share your experiences!
I am goin I send this video to everyone that asks me all these stupid questions. And if anyone I meet later in life asks the same questions, I will just politely shove this video in their face! :)
Excellent video!
