Apple owns 28 percent of the market with 2 phones while android has like 39 percent with 60 phones. Do the math, Apple's not sweating it with 20 million iPhones sold so far this year... how many Galaxy S's have been sold? Sure, it's a high end Andoid... but iPhone killer.... hardly.

Multiple models are better because you actually get a choice of what phone you want: a slide or flip phone, or a black-berry form factor, or an OLED screen or a game controller like the Xperia play. Or large/med/small. What choice of iphones do you have? None.

@DJK290 only because its availiable on what, 150+ devices no single android phone has outsold iphone. gs 1 was slower than iphone dispite its ARM A9, and im not upset i got an iphone im glad i got one. also note that im not deniying that iphone is overated. im just saying that ikillers are aswell.
The GS1 was comparable to the iPhone 4, the speed differences fluctuated and was sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Keep in mind Apple had no true multitasking.
We called it multi-tasking, it is actually task-switching. Tasks would not run independently of each other. Android is the only OS to have mastered Multi-Tasking in true.
The Galaxy S2 destroys the iPhone 4, there is no comparison. The iPhone 5, as I cannot release the details even if I had them, willl compare to it
You can make the SGS constant by Rooting, uploading NoLagFix, Darkys 7 and an overclock partition. It's much faster then, but not stock so I guess it doesnt count.

Pretty much everything you said has nothing to do with user interface qualities. You're just talking about how developers meet the requirements. In terms of experiences, the galaxy is far easier and more intuitive.

Off the top of my head: customizable desktop environment with live widgets, multitasking, drop-down taskbar, live wallpapers, customization of the UI and system, the file formats it supports, and the custom ROMs.
"Fragmentation" is the nothing-burger buzzword of the decade.
@ChaseKittens What's necessarily better about a customizable desktop? iOS has multitasking, done better than android as is does so without killing the battery (as does live wallpapers). Are you so shallow that you'll choose a phone over weather or not it has (battery killing) animated gifs? All these things you mention are not a big deal to most people. What people want is a stable platform that does what they want. Most people don't give a shit if they have an animated .gif wallpaper.

I agree. We are doing well with what they have. But eventually the spike trends that hardware will eventually supercede software in every respect. We see WAVM technology giving birth to the Nintendo, when Atari could no longer create a competitive edge. Contrary to popular belief, eventually imaginations do run out and we are forced to move onto something new with better technology.
Watch out for the iPhone 5, after playing with it, it will be a bloodmatch between it and SGS2.

@thebikerboi2 Yes it has similar CPU (both SoC are made by Samasung) but not the GPU. Yes it can run some apps faster, but that's only because that apps have been optimized for CPU and graphic made for iPhone GPU. You have better graphics on Galaxy S
@al2216ww ok yes galaxy s 2 may be able to run better graphics than iphone 4, however the s2 cababilities for graphics are restrained by the android market, if developers want to make an all roud high quality, graphicly demanding game they have to get a balance between the current high performance and slightly less performance phones. its kinda sad realy.
Any phone that has sold as many units worldwide as the IPhone has cannot be a crap phone. If it was nobody would've ever bought one. But it is possible that there are better phones available, and in my opinion the Galaxy phone is one of those that are better.
@sergiurazvan iTunes has to be the biggest piece of bloatware I've ever used on my computer. It tries to install Safari without telling you, uses up 3 of my 4GB RAM and requires you to purchase the product again if you accidentally deleted it. iTunes is crap and is a good example of some poorly written software.

Samsung Galaxy S i9000! I hate this phone. I hate it because its so perfect in every way and just when you think life couldnt be better, Samsung go and leave out something as simple yet so important as the camera flash….I sent this back to my provider today because lacking the camera flash/light LED has made night time photographs/video recoding utterly useless. Samsung = Idiots. I cant believe it.
@DJK290: It can brighten the photos all it wants. How can it brighten a photo taken in dim light/darkness enough so that the object can be clearly seen? Well from having tried it with this phone, it cant and thats why I no longer own one of these. Iphone4 is way better but the price of its is extortionate so I went on ebay and bought a decent camera phone. Remember the C905 Sony Ericsson? Great camera (with flash) and cheap enough too! And I'd rather have buttons than have touch screen aswell.

i have a Galaxy and i had a iphone 3gs b4. I miss the iphone tbh, let me explain! iphone runs amazingly with NO lag as every app is made SPECIFICALLY 4 iphone ONLY. where as android apps are made for android an not a specific phone so galaxy s, xperia 10 they both the same both run the same. and often apps run in the background and slow the phone down u kill all tasks and they start running again after a few minutes. Apple are strict that apps should not restrict performances at all

i got this and it is sooo awesome. So much better then iphone. and it has good battery life and everything fast and everything love it! if anyone wants it i suggest it and if anyone wants iphone i suggest galaxy :D

@UmiVeg Read it thoroughly, The developer is Apple. The manufacturer is Foxconn. Apple is not an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) unlike Samsung. The brain of iPhone is made by Samsung. Display was made by LG. Apple buy parts from others and Foxconn assembled them. Apple puts the logo and OS. OK. Basically, only the abstract concept is made by Apple.

@UmiVeg Nope the A4 is a slightly modified version of the Samsung Hummingbird SoC the only difference is that the A4 doesn't have the exellent GPU the hummingbird does and is slightly slower.

@akirahojo2 no, the galaxy S phones have gorilla glass which is slightly more scratch resistant then the iphones coating on their glass. I've had both phones and have had no problems with scratches

The GS1 was comparable to the iPhone 4, the speed differences fluctuated and was sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Keep in mind Apple had no true multitasking.
We called it multi-tasking, it is actually task-switching. Tasks would not run independently of each other. Android is the only OS to have mastered Multi-Tasking in true.
The Galaxy S2 destroys the iPhone 4, there is no comparison. The iPhone 5, as I cannot release the details even if I had them, willl compare to it

Are you so shallow that you'll choose a phone over weather or not it has (battery killing) animated gifs? All these things you mention are not a big deal to most people. What people want is a stable platform that does what they want. Most people don't give a shit if they have an animated .gif wallpaper.

iOS doesn't have multitasking, it has task-switching. That's why it can't have Android's widgets and notifications until iOS5, which so far has worse battery life than Android.

We see WAVM technology giving birth to the Nintendo, when Atari could no longer create a competitive edge. Contrary to popular belief, eventually imaginations do run out and we are forced to move onto something new with better technology.

It tries to install Safari without telling you, uses up 3 of my 4GB RAM and requires you to purchase the product again if you accidentally deleted it. iTunes is crap and is a good example of some poorly written software.

Well from having tried it with this phone, it cant and thats why I no longer own one of these. Iphone4 is way better but the price of its is extortionate so I went on ebay and bought a decent camera phone. Remember the C905 Sony Ericsson? Great camera (with flash) and cheap enough too! And I'd rather have buttons than have touch screen aswell.

i have a Galaxy and i had a iphone 3gs b4. I miss the iphone tbh, let me explain! iphone runs amazingly with NO lag as every app is made SPECIFICALLY 4 iphone ONLY. where as android apps are made for android an not a specific phone so galaxy s, xperia 10 they both the same both run the same. and often apps run in the background and slow the phone down u kill all tasks and they start running again after a few minutes. Apple are strict that apps should not restrict performances at all

Hey ppl do not buy this phone! I've had it for 4 months now and it's a disaster. Here are some issues that I've had with it:
-terrible lag in the UI and apps, especially after the Android 2.2 upgrade
-the signal disappears for no apparent reason
-messages aren't always delivered
-GPS is a nightmare, constantly loses satellites
-wifi turns on by itself
-multitasking is a disaster, 2 apps is enough to make the phone crash
-defectious microphone
-speaker quality is terrible..

@UmiVeg Read it thoroughly, The developer is Apple. The manufacturer is Foxconn. Apple is not an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) unlike Samsung. The brain of iPhone is made by Samsung. Display was made by LG. Apple buy parts from others and Foxconn assembled them. Apple puts the logo and OS. OK. Basically, only the abstract concept is made by Apple.

@UmiVeg omg ur an apple fanboy period i mean apple is a good company make good money ok products etc. but bassically everthing is made by lg and samsung for apple ok? the cpu of the phone is samsung and u can not always trust wikipedia the desgin of the iphone is nice because apple is good at desgining thier products but they just copy the internal stuff from samsung and lg like the screen the cpu the prosscer the battery etc expect for ios

@UmiVeg Nope the A4 is a slightly modified version of the Samsung Hummingbird SoC the only difference is that the A4 doesn't have the exellent GPU the hummingbird does and is slightly slower.

@UmiVeg It was designed by Intrinsity shortly before Apple inquired them and is manufactured by Samsung.
Apple had little to do with the Iphone's chip except for underclocking it and printing a white apple logo on top of it.

What about the material on iPhone4? A colleague says it's stronger and scratch resistant compared to Galaxy S. Any opinions on this?

@akirahojo2 no, the galaxy S phones have gorilla glass which is slightly more scratch resistant then the iphones coating on their glass. I've had both phones and have had no problems with scratches

Txt overseas. I'm tech agnostic, so I don't belong to any camp. At the moment I'm unsure about which to go: iPhone4, Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire HD. Not concern about camera nor video, I have dig camera for that. What's ur opinion on either of these?

you ask what's so good about apple? because apple was the first. This Samsung, like all other touch screen phones, are copies of the legendary Iphone/Ipod Touch. The Iphone was the first, and it always will be. Other designs are simply copy cats, trying to make money from Apple's ideas and designs.

And if so i believe it ain't jailbroken, so why don't you get an iphone Jailbreak it and enter to the world of Iphone apps(Which wii be doing urself a favor), i'm not saying that a Samsung Galaxy "S" is better than Iphone but then again I'm not also saying that the Iphone is better either.
