im a proud owner of a swapped 1993 3400 z24 cavalier... i personally know a guy that had a built 3500 swapped cavalier and his best time at the 1/4 mile was a 13.0 and he had about 330hp to the wheels and i saw it with my own eyes on the dyno... so once jay's car is tuned no doubt it will hit 12 sec. 1/4 miles with slicks.

Hey jay, my friend has a 97 cavalier an it won't run well. You have to put your foot to the floor to start it and it doesn't like to start it cranks well and when it does start it wants to stall what do you think is wrong with it??? Thanks for the help
@Mryekim12 same problem as that saturn i got for my girlfriend to use at the farm. in that case it was shitty bosch spark plugs. GM requires AC delco plugs only.
@backyardjay the cavalier i check had good spark with some ngk's will ac delco's really make a difference. also the throttle body looked gummed up with carbon will cleaning that solve the problem, do you have any other suggestions, when i turn on the ignition i can here the fuel pump going and it i think that it is fine. when i pull out the spark plugs some of them are wet, but when i check on the block for spark it works fine.
@Mryekim12 if the plugs are wet its not igniting. a plug can spark no problem in open atmosphere pressure. under compression the air is denser which acts as an insulator and the spark has a harder time traveling thru the gap. NGKs dont work well in most GM engines. replace with basic AC delco plugs and clean the throttle body.
well i don't like the crapaliers but this one does move i gotta say, wicked throttle response, though most of my vehicles sound like that after I seafoam em
gotta love those old 2nd generation j-body gm cars. the body shape is so unique on the 2 door ones and the 3.1l you could get from the factory is an awesome engine! mine makes around 200hp est. and is one of the loudest cars in the area where i live lol
is the speedometer reading mph instead of km? i thought it was pretty slow thinking it took about 7 sec to reach what read 100 on the speedometer. then, i realized you were nearing third gear by that point, and that your pcm must be US-based.
Always liked these cars, 3.5 seems like a strong motor that got rid of the issues with the 3.1 and 3.4 motors, not sure if the 3.5 shares anything with them really though. love the hater comments in here, usually when I don't know shit, I know enough too keep my mouth shut. keep up the good work.

Do you really think it could rev to 9000? That seems really risky. I mean sure, Honda motors can rev that high, but they're also alot smaller than a 3.5. Even if you have a valvetrain that can handle the rpms, wouldn't you risk having a failure in the bottom end? Thats alot of mass moving around at that rpm hahaha.
@surfordie82 forged steel crank and rods. high volume oil pump... it can do it, not point though. the sychros in these trannys wont let you shift over 7500...

@knobcheese69 it wasnt cold i warmed it before the video, the temp doesnt go any higher theres no t-stat. you dont need to be WOT to hit limiter, i couldnt shift due to holding the cam, steering with one finger, on a beat to shit farm road. and yes, best time so far 0-60 was 3.99. why bullshit? whats the point? im not lookin to impress anyone, this is what i do for fun.
@knobcheese69 i use the neighbouring farms old ghetto private air strip, they have a couple ultralite planes. tag expired nearing the end of summer and it needs an emission test now. thats why i dont drive it on the legit road. its only a taster vid, be patient, you'll see the full out action next spring :)
@backyardjay FYI, contrary to popular belief regarding overheating and power loss, if you don't use a thermostat, the block temperature will be improper and will actually lose power/efficiency because the rings will not seal/make compression to their full potential. Engines that are too cold or too hot are not making full compression at operating temperature. For longivity and power, I would run a 190 F or 195 F degree stainless steel thermostat and a Rad that is up to par to avoid overheating.

You must have had to do some wire chopping to get that to work, unless it was a whole wire harness swap. I think I have read that people could use an OBD1 with the LX9. Why did you go to the trouble of installing OBD2?

@wtawhite yes the PCM is from a 2002 olds alero 3400, its been flashed with a 98 montana 3400 tune. the reason for that is there was no passlock in pontiacs in 1998. putting the 02 alero pcm in with the 02 alero tune, it would not run because of the anti theft system. i should have explaned that in the vid. sorry.

@DC2slammed this engine is fully built all forged internals. yes it will handle 9k all day long. the engine is from a 08 malibu ss, then fully built by me. my old 3400 in this car was 100% stock unmodded. it ran 14.00 flat 1/4 mile. this ran 13.00 flat in september.

You must have had to do some wire chopping to get that to work, unless it was a whole wire harness swap. I think I have read that people could use an OBD1 with the LX9. Why did you go to the trouble of installing OBD2?

@wtawhite yes the PCM is from a 2002 olds alero 3400, its been flashed with a 98 montana 3400 tune. the reason for that is there was no passlock in pontiacs in 1998. putting the 02 alero pcm in with the 02 alero tune, it would not run because of the anti theft system. i should have explaned that in the vid. sorry.

I guarantee you that your honda wouldn't even keep up to see the tail lights bud. go chop your springs a bit more and play with the exhaust tip too, oh and add some cool DC stickers on it, maybe even take the hubcaps off, then you would be super duper original!!

@DC2slammed this engine is fully built all forged internals. yes it will handle 9k all day long. the engine is from a 08 malibu ss, then fully built by me. my old 3400 in this car was 100% stock unmodded. it ran 14.00 flat 1/4 mile. this ran 13.00 flat in september.
