@hobomillionaire family aspect? i never got the sense that this film was preachy or moralizing in any way whatsoever. if anything, it shows how a group of social misfits and outcasts managed to create little substitute family within the porn industry of the late 70s/early80s. notice that most of the characters are completely disconnected from their dysfunctional homes/biological families. not sure what you mean by the "crime is bad" message. i just don't see it

I'm really glad Anderson cut these scenes. I've seen them many times, and while they're funny, none add anything to the movie. I'm especially glad they cut the New Year's parts. In the official cut, they all seem to be having fun, whacked out fun, but fun...the deleted scenes make them seem kind of bored and pathetic. The official cut of Boogie Nights: greatest movie ever.

The deleted scene with Apollo 100 in the background is perhaps the most unfortunate occurance.The entire scene should have been left in the film as the music perfectly complemented the scene.With so many films on DVD being re released,it would be a shame if the guys in Hollywood didn't release a "directors" cut of Boogie Nights.The original was excellent,however,with additions of the deleted scenes it would be a great bonus and make an already classic even more palatable.Dirk Diggler rules!!

watch the colorbars option of the 2 dvd disc set, it shows dirk trying on the fake penis. it looks real. the deleted scenes are addressed, they didnt flow wel inthe movie so they took them out. dirks vette being crashed should been shown though
