when i heard the theme song for the show i thought of sunday chicken, orange and black carpet, visits to my aunt and uncles for dinner and my bitter uncle bitchin about pierre trudeau madder than the fires of HELL
I grew up in Gibsons. My grandfather use to work on relic's jet boat for the show. Both "relic" and "nick" lived in Gibsons at the time. Relic was really nice in real life.
@ImeldaDavies. The 70's had three different endings. The first season was an aerial sequence high above logbooms. The second season was a painting of a log that looked similar to the one on the opener. From the third season until the end of the 1981 season it featured the low flyover of logbooms that most everyone remembers. The theme music remained much the same until 1984 when it was jazzed up. If you heard the 70's version it is very catchy. Any fan over 40 can hum it for you.
The Beachcombers followed the life of Nick Adonidas (Bruno Gerussi), a Greek-Canadian log salvager in British Columbia who earned a living travelling the coastline northwest of Vancouver tracking down logs that had broken away from logging barges. His chief business competitor is Relic (Robert Clothier) (whose actual name is Stafford T. Phillips), a somewhat unsavoury person who will occasionally go to great lengths to steal business (and logs) away from Nick.
That was always one of my favourite shows. Every Sunday I would watch it. My folks had a cbin on the Sunshine coast and I use to go fishing off of the Dock at molly's Reach in Gibsons. It was a great place
What's the problem with CBC??? They're short of funds - guess what? There's lots of money to be made with the Beachcombers on DVD!!! I'll pay, no matter the amount! Wake up CBC - this is the best series you ever produced! Release it on DVD!!!
Thanks for sharing the news about no DVD releases. That's too bad. a lot of fans, not just Canadians, would like to see this series again, especially the earlier episodes.
@trevorwjs Hey Trevour at the end of the 70's episodes did they end the show with a long shot slightly more sombre music and heaps of logs coming down the river?
thanks for uploading these my friend. as you can see from the sun tv icon in the bottom right these are taken from the sun tv channel which airs across canada. here in southern ontario you can see the beachcombers at 10:30am on weekdays, channel 15. however it would see that sun tv only bought the rights to about 10-15 shows as i see the same ones repeated over and over.
i've been in talks with jackson davies (whom you can find on facebook as well as a beachcombers fan site) who is working with corporate sponsors to try and get the show released on dvd. seems cbc doesnt want to give the shows writers and cast a proper cut and therefore refuses to allow dvds released. stupid move because there are so many seasons that they would make a killing on the sale of this greatly loved canadian show!

kidfortoday,
That's interesting what you say. So cbc want to make 100% of the profit from no DVD sales.
= $0
Thta's so typical of greedy corporate ideology.
:)

Beachcombers ran for a long time on CBC, 1972 until 1990. I use to always see the cast members when I hung around Gibsons as a kid.
