  • hah, dude. Exactly the same thing happened to me the other day! Parked outside Kew Gardens, quite a nice bike, 'armoured' cable lock that I thought was safeish ( had been using for about 4 years) and someone cropped it in broad daylight. Abus Steeloflex - don't use as a primary lock! Anyway. I might get one of these locks.

  • 5 hours later?????????? take all the time in the world!

  • Thanks for the reply dude! Sorry about ur bike. I know what it feels like cas I had my road bike stolen. I recently got another one and I am trying to get to keep it in my possession, lol. I'm going to get the lock that u have cas I heard it's the best out there. I'm even thinking about getting an alarm. I'm tryin to do as much as I can to protect this new bike cas I think that if I had been more protective of the previous one I probably would still have it.

  • Is that the fahgettaboutit? Is it able to lock the frame and rear wheel of ur bike?

  • @stunna2604 It can lock the frame to the rear wheel. Or, you can lock the rear wheel to most kinds of bike rack...this is actually pretty safe if done through the rear triangle of the frame as cutting a wheel + tyre is a bitch. Getting the frame and wheel to another object will work sometimes.

  • @calvinjones No, its quite easy to cut the wheel and tyre. Watch H9fLtdZyX-A

This method was promoted by Sheldon Brown, but in this rare case, he was wrong. Always lock through a frame tube (and the wheels if you must). I have the same u-lock though, it wont go through both the frame and wheel, so i fitted security skewers rather than quick releases. No more worry about wheels being stolen.

  • dont use just 1 lock use 3 locks 1 the lock you have a disk break alarm lock a long thick cable lock that locks the wheels and the frame.

  • in brick lane this lock its half price :)

  • he man in the states its called a u lock , but anyway is that the fahgettaboudit lock ? they are supposed to be 18mm but i dont know if they include the rubber in that mm, can you tell how thick the rubber is ?

  • Absolutely no offence intended, but using a cable on an unattended bike was like asking for it to be taken. I wouldn't use anything less than a D lock on a 3 minute sprint around the super market. Having said, you still didn't deserve to get it stolen. Maybe you came up from Richmond to Kew and got the wrong impression of the area. Go across the bridge and see what a shithole looks like!

  • its like a scale a cheaper lock expensive bike then a more expensive lock and cheaper bike lolz

  • I have this lock, its great however he completely forgot to mention it doesn't come with a bracket and its a pain in the arse to carry around...I would strongly recommend the New York 3000 instead, its 16mm thick instead of 18mm but you can actually carry it around.

  • Sucks that you got your bike stolen, im spending 160$ to decrease my chances of getting mine stolen.

  • i love aggrovating people

  • @mpctheg when i recorded this video i was earning £7.50/hr working in a shop...thats just about enough to live on in London...so fuck you.

  • @calvinjones haha nice

  • hey dude, ive noticed your video is quite old, how is the lock doing? I just bought one of those and was wondering.

  • @thiegolc i`ve always been happy with the lock, no one cut through it or even tried whilst i was in London...unfortunately i then moved to rural Wales and then scotland so the lock hasn't been tested for very long. I still reckon it's about the best compact lock that you can get, you can buy huge chains but realistically this lock in practical enough to carry without being a burden.

  • @calvinjones did u kno u can open those locks with a bic pen xD

  • @swordiro no you cant. the old locks you could, krptonite replaces all those bic prone locks for free. truth is, there really is no point in buying an expensive bike.

  • @thiegolc I own one of these locks too, and can say without a doubt that it's well worth the money.

I live in MEMPHIS (very high crime rate) and my neighbor's bike got stolen a few weeks ago. Her bike costed less than $100 while mine is worth over $1000, and our bikes were locked up right next to each other! Hers got stolen (cable was cut) while my bike wasn't even touched! Fahgettaboudit works to say the least.

  • Hope no one steals it.

  • thats probably the best kryptonite u lock around right now.

  • ok vid Calvin, pity you didnt catch the theiving bastards who stole your bike and used their own bolt cutters to cut off their bollox !

  • Good for you for the bike lock! This may sound a bit harsh, but I think we should be allowed to shoot thiefs lol. Is this lock OTT for a mountain bike? I just got bike and the way the world is today you can't be blamed for being paranoid

  • thanks

  • Is it heavy?

  • i stole ur bike

  • i guess that's fair enough considering what i did to your mum...

  • @calvinjones haha u got a good sense of humor man u actually made me laugh :)

  • @calvinjones rofl epic ^^^ ahahhaa

  • @calvinjones Your mom jokes are lame. GOOF!

  • @calvinjones nice!!!!

  • i could have that lock open in under 12 seconds.....

  • - their called u locks.

    - the thickness does not matter

  • search for 'd lock'

  • watch what is said, brother sees remember? LOL Anyway, that bike lock will be picked easily, get a few different kinds...one just won't do. Good luck Calvin!

  • I hope you got your bike registered, and I think your NY U-lock has the highest insurance offer to replace the cost of your bike in case the lock gets defeated. Good luck & Safe rides!

  • its a U lock!

  • Oh say it with me mate, Disc detainer pick. Something that can pick you lock in an average of 4 mins.

  • next time look in the cam not yourself. lol.

  • jerk

  • ya the lock is never going to hold someone back if they want your bike for real... the best way I've found to keep my bike safe is to know at least 2 bike thieves (the more the better), park your bike where you can see it or where a friend can.... and then have a Sig- H&K or a Glock on your person :-) the good lock is just to slow them down. o ya, sorry about your last bike... any chance the police will recover it?

  • a glock is something I have that I've recovered recently so if I feel me or my bike is threatened, well you use your imagination. Police won't recover your lock if you have a 65 mile radius of people you can sell it too.

  • Nice... how do you like the Glock so far? I'm stuck between the Sig P229 in 357 or 40 or a G32 + G33 for deep concealment... the only G I've used is a G21 and as far as .45 go's, well I think I'll stick with the XD ;-) I need a new one soon since the XD is a real pain in the side (concealed- I'm only 5'8" & 128 lbs) & my mom wants her H&K USP 9mm back soon lol. and ya I can use my imagination.

  • I hope you're not insinuating shooting someone for stealing your bike. It's different state to state, but I'd bet the law enforcement will not side with you on that case.

  • I'd only shoot them if I had to... Ie if they freak out when I try to stop them and they attack me (even then only if I had to), for the most part I think they would take off running if I show up though I have known some brave guys ;-) most of them are just going to freeze up when they see that I'm carrying which will give me the chance to call the cops so they can take it form there. dose that work for you? anyway I don't carry to keep my bike safe that was more of a joke then anything else.

  • That seems more reasonable. I just wanted to clarify for those just turning twenty one and excited about packing so they could feel cool, and then wind up in jail for manslaughter.

  • ya that makes sense... I probably should not have posted that on youtube. I don't think anyone should carry a gun just to be cool, they should be committed to the way of life that go's with carrying... it takes a great deal of responsibility to use a gun safely in public & and you have to fully understand what it is your talking about doing if/when you ever use it & what may happen with the law when you do. buy the way, I'm only 19 but I live in AK what state are you in?

  • I'm in the land of laws, California, but I'm originally from Montana.

  • Ohh ha ha, you really got your bike stolen by someone cutting the lock. What losers. Sorry about your bike. And I'm sorry for them, because they have no talent on how to take a bike. That lock you have is a lock that I want to pick.I just go the specially made pick for that. Top time is takes based on experience is 5 mins., maybe less. Can't wait to try it this week.

  • whats a good way to start learning how to pick locks? I've been wanting to lean for some time now since it looks like a fun thing to learn about.

  • ykno what fking sucks tho?

they can just pick the lock so it's like it doesnt matter how big the dlock is, they can just pick it .

there should be a lock that makes you twist two keys at teh same time; should make it difficult for a single asshole to get it open.

  • I have quite a few videos but for some reason this really random one seems to have more views than most desptite the fact that people dont seem to like it...youtube is confusing.

  • My guess is that - from a Search Engine Optimization point of view - this one is the people will most likely be looking for. The other vids, from what I can tell are not such common topics. So this is what they search for and find but they don't necessarily like it. So what. Sometimes it is more important to be right than to be popular. Cheers. - C.

  • So, it's been a year. Did this Krypto New York bike lock work for you. I've had the Evo lock for some five years and it's worked for me!

  • So far so good :-)

The best thing about it is that although heavy it is really compact so it fits in my small hydration pack/rucksack which i usually use.

  • you should go back to th place they took your bike and stand there see if they come back and take you, stupid f.king di.k

  • wazetah --

they're not like car keys. I think he meant they just kind of resemble them. I don't know the name of the key type, but the only other place I've seen them used is in high-end locks. Car keys (at least in north america) resemble any regular door key, probably with a little more security.

  • i must say if the keys ae the same stlye as car keys then that means its a waffer lock and those are quite easy to pick

  • Thanks

  • sorry about the bike what kind was it

  • i stole your bick

  • lol

  • Several things:

The bic trick only works on any kryptonite 2000 series which they recalled for the 3000s. Secondly dude its called a u-lock not a d-lock lol

  • no, some call it a d, some a u

  • those are way too easy to pick!

  • You see that this one isnt suceptible to the 'bic' trick? I havent heard that these ones with keys can be easily picked, having said that it hardly matters most bike thiefs arent that skilled.

  • lost my key to an ABUS STEEL-O-CHAIN LOCK.

Can someone help? How do I open it?

  • afraid not, goof bolt cutters wouldd be your best bet if it is locking a bike if not then its time for a new lock...

  • whats the keyway look like?

  • Always remember that every lock is breakable even the one that you have. It just takes them a little bit longer with better locks. Get another D-Lock or cable to protect both your wheels. And more importantly don't leave your bike for many hours especially in unsafe areas.

  • Yea, cables are easy to clip so they shouldn't be your main lock. Now, you have a great lock but you have to apply it correctly where the thief can't fit a mini jack inside the D-Lock. They have these tiny jacks that can fit in D-locks so don't leave much space in between the lock. And I've seen huge bolt cutters cut through the kryptonite fahgettaboudit so put your lock pretty high so they can't use the ground for leverage.

  • reccomendation: get a second very cheap basic cable lock to stick around your front wheel.

Use the D lock to to lock up frame & rear wheel to stationary item.

Most of all, do not leave your bike unattended for long periods of time in capital cities or university campuses.

  • I already had a cable at home so i just bought that down to London and now i loop that through my front wheel and connect the two ends to the u-lock. And yes i lock my bike up through the back wheel and frame, this leaves very little leverage room. Carbide saws or power tools are the only things that i think could break it easily.

  • i have also seen some one steal half a bicycle, literally, cut it right in half and walk away with the front end. leaving the lock behind.

The only way to avoid these problems is to buy the biggest lock with the cheaper bicycle. I own the longer version of the same lock. I have had no issues, but i bring everything with me everytime, seat and post bottle and lights and any removable bags come with me. I have had everything go missing from a bicycle at ome point or another. Good luck!

  • CAl, you have one of the best locks on the market. I have many bikes stolen for different reasons other than the price of the bike. The lock is very important, but you need to know what your locking it too. I had SCOTT mountain with full bounce and disk breaks. I also had the kryptonite chain on the bike. Thiefs cut the tree down to get the bike. I also hear there are guys driving around in vans with power tools that will cut anything, can't stop them i suppose.

  • Just make sure you don't leave a sizeable gap (fill it all with your frame and wheel(s)) - a small jack can easily break apart any U-lock.

  • Yeah i`ve seen a video of this. One of the advantages of the lock i bought is that it is much smaller than most d-locks.

  • Live in NYC too, Got the same lock KRYPTONITE NY Fahgettaboudit U LOCK. I actually caught someone trying to break the lock. Idiot! Scratched it up pretty good but couldn't get through.

  • Interesting, thanks

  • If you manage that i`ll consider it just rewards for the hard work required to do so.
