No emotion, choppy dancers. I get that they're making a VERY bad attempt at creating a dream, but they HAVE to touch. It creates sensualism, which there surely is,especially off of Broadway. I understand that they only sing during the whole opera, but they're not good actors at all. Also, they need to keep in mind that they're playing a Patti LuPone role, not Sutton Foster or Lea Salonga. (Not bashing them. I love them, but they would just make horrible Eva's because of their airless voices.)
I think that they both, but Che especially, need to realise that this is not a pop song! There is absoultly no emotion in what their singing, there might as well be no words just humming!
They're not touching to show that this scene is not real-it's a dream sequence outside of the play. While Eva and Che were both historical figures, they never actually met each other, except for maybe a brief handshake during Eva's world tour. Eva and Che sing together throughout the show, but this is the only time they truly interact.
Maybe they're not touching to show the difference between the two characters. Che has no power, yet Eva/Evita has the country at her feet. He is a lower class working man while she is an upper class woman. Maybe it's just to show the divide in the two people's lives and social positions. That's what I would believe anyway...
so is there some reason he can touch her and show emotion if you need a director i can help you find one......that can at least get him to act like he is as mad at her as he should be

Let's see what's wrong: they can't sing, they just go back and forth - no real dancing, and they aren't even touching.
