@saddleback101 I agree. I ride western, but I've rode english a few times and I know it's just as challenging. I don't think one style of riding is any better than another style of riding. Each style of riding was made for a different purpose and we as riders should respect each other. I personally love western because I learned in western and live in the southwest USA, but I still would love to try dressage and show jumping to expand my riding knowledge.

When I ride western, I ride this stubborn Arab, his trot, canter, gallop are so rough! But when I ride english, I ride this amazingly soft horse- Icelandic horse, she's much smaller and slower, but she can go tolt, awesome...
Why are you all bashing engish riding? I ride english style. I havent had the chance to ride western style and Im sure its fun the same as english riding is fun but its just riding. who cares what style you ride? as long as you get to do horse riding, its all fun. I give you props for not being like the typical rider who thinks because western (or english, looking the other way around) is in a different saddle, it's horrible, easy, or no fun because it's different than what you do.
I rode Western for 2 years, and i just switched to English. And honestly, English is actually RIDING, Western is EXTEREMLY easy compared to it. But Western is still really fun, i have to admit.

When you exclusively like one side of horse riding, you box yourself in and make it so you cannot have complete understanding of the horseworld. Without english there wouldn't be western...not saying I like english better, i don't, but i respect it as an important part of the horse world...

Every time I see a reiner in action I think, "How common ara hock injuries in this discipline?" I wonder the same thing about cannon bone and fetlock injuries in jumpers and eventers.

Some people like dance. but it doesn't mean that all of them like ballet or hiphop. They all like different styles:) Which is why I love riding and why so many people have to argue over which is best. ballet and hiphop all look for different things. Same with riding english and western:) I ride english, but I LOVE to watch people do barrels and calf roping reining!
I liked watching the horses canter (well, lope) to the music. Great job! I'm actually starting Western riding today!! I've always done English. I love the reining footage that you have!
im also a western rider, and my horse really enjoys it, she doesnt like english riding at all! It's a difference between every horse, some like western, some like english style, its their personal taste. My horse is very slow and bored when were doing it the english way, but when were western riding, she is really fast and happy.

english is more fun? personaly I find any show riding boring. want to make it fun? bull dogging, calf roping, cutting, trail riding with no destination in mind, working cattle in the back 40 thats fun. Skill wise i can't do what the english riders do but how many of them can rope a calf at a dead run? Have fun with what you do and i'll admire your abilities but don't think were all going to like it.

@ofcorsehorse just get 1 lil english saddle so you can pop over a log every now and then =) you can do it in a LIGHT LIGHT western saddle but too muchin western saddle is bad for their back cuz of its shape

i love this video but western riding isn't just reining, barrels, and poles. there is much much more people do in western riding.

Every time I see a reiner in action I think, "How common ara hock injuries in this discipline?" I wonder the same thing about cannon bone and fetlock injuries in jumpers and eventers.

I usually ride English style, but I went to America and rode Western and it's so much fun. So much more relaxed and enjoyable :D

I had my very first lesson in western today, while I'm very used to dressage/jumping with horses.
I must say - it's just so awesome >w< I'm glad I've met this part of horseriding.

Some people like dance. but it doesn't mean that all of them like ballet or hiphop. They all like different styles:) Which is why I love riding and why so many people have to argue over which is best. ballet and hiphop all look for different things. Same with riding english and western:) I ride english, but I LOVE to watch people do barrels and calf roping reining!

im also a western rider, and my horse really enjoys it, she doesnt like english riding at all! It's a difference between every horse, some like western, some like english style, its their personal taste. My horse is very slow and bored when were doing it the english way, but when were western riding, she is really fast and happy.

english is more fun? personaly I find any show riding boring. want to make it fun? bull dogging, calf roping, cutting, trail riding with no destination in mind, working cattle in the back 40 thats fun. Skill wise i can't do what the english riders do but how many of them can rope a calf at a dead run? Have fun with what you do and i'll admire your abilities but don't think were all going to like it.

@ofcorsehorse just get 1 lil english saddle so you can pop over a log every now and then =) you can do it in a LIGHT LIGHT western saddle but too muchin western saddle is bad for their back cuz of its shape

@ofcorsehorse What you can do is extreme cowboy race. It involves jumping and running. In some cases they even have mounted shooting. FUN!

opposite meaning english riders aren't snobs they are very nice people, and that western riders aren't hicks:)
