We know that the "mystery trasher" is Bert just by looking at him because everything except his eyes are shown until Grundgetta correctly guesses that the rest of the trash belongs to Bert. If they had completely covered Bert up, we wouldn't have known who the "mystery trasher" was until Grundgetta made her guess.
