just so you no aluminum cans give off poisonus fumes from the elements they add to aluminum... and for the record so you no since you care to compare... read the msda sheets to any sheet of aluminum and you will no it is a horible metal to be around when heated.. sure there are pans that are built out of aluminum but read carefully they are anodised...
Distancing of stove from pot to the burner is very important! this is to achieve maximum heat as well as fuel efficiency. whether one is using any type of stove.
I like alcohol stove since it's fuel serves many functions.
I think your penny stove needs some work. The inside part is not in quite level. Mine jets up hard and fast and boils water very quickly, in just a few minutes. Perhaps the low height of the pot over the flame using only ten pegs makes yours cook slower too. Just some thoughts.
I have cooked alot with the Zip Stove even without the windscreen and it has taken at most 5 mins to get it boiling that is really weird it took so long.
