I'm fairly certain that in German Kant is pronounced "K-aunt", not "K-ant".
Since I enjoy Inmendham's vids I tried to watch your meta-ethics vid in order to leave a few comments, but could not get through the blackboard screeching audio loop.
"The notion of consciousness without a brain is as non-sensical as the notion of digestion without a stomach". Got to love Schopenhauer.
Great Vid. Strong emphasis on Solipsism though, Schopenhauer never doubted the reality of others' 'Will' like a Solipsist would doubt the existance of other's Minds.
Have you found the Schopenhauer manuscript you are looking for. If not, send me a private message and I can send you the pdf. You will enjoy the collection of his works especially if you are realist.
brilliant. both the content and the delivery are excellent. I hope you continue creating and posting videos of such quality. This video really convinced me to dig deeper into Schopenhauer's philosophy.
I consider myself lucky to have studied Schopenhauer. Interestingly, the more I attempt to argue with him, the stronger his arguments become. His arguments are all valid, so we can only question the soundness of his premises. We cannot prove the will, but we should find it impossible to deny it exists.
Arthur Schopenhauer came up with Einstein's space-time ontology 50 years before Albert even was born! You can watch Robert Lanza on You Tube, were he's talking about space and time; that's Schopenhauers idea too! Schop was more than a stuffy pessimist. The pessimism is secondary to his metaphysics you see.
Thank you very much for this video! Briliant job! Could you please send my the entire speech in text file by email (as I didn't understand a few words)? If so, please let me know... Thanks in advance!
This Video is just amazing. Music, graphics, pronunciation... It's just EPIC! I will recommend this Video to my subscribers. If you could send me the manuscript, I will make a translation into German. Cause this is maybe the best summary on Schopenhauer I've ever seen.
I'm writing my dissertation on Schopenhauers views on religion, in particular, Christianity. My main source is 'The Horrors and Absurdities of Religion' (containing extracts from Parerga und Paralipomena) and I am essentually focusing on why the modern man choses to be religious (he certiainly didn't chose to be religious through rational deduction, revelation, reasonable inference from the Bible etc.). If anyone has any essays they could send me, or any advice, I would be very grateful!
Who is really able to understand the real intension of the works by Schopenhauer? Or how many people are trying to understand this in a right way? I´m not sure! By the way: "Every truth passes through three stages..." is one of my favorite quotes by him, because it´s so true. - m@tj3s
im a bit insulted that you claim that Nietzsche's philosophy is but a footnote..... but nevertheless i agree with the spirit of this video. Schopenhauer was a bridge from east to west. Let us thank also the Vedas, the Unpanishads! the Indians and their beautiful, rich, elegant, and ancient insights into the mind of man.
As a non-native English speaker I find it hard to follow what is being said because of the effects and loud music. Can you hit me with the manuscript?
I've been developing a philosophy... I think what Schopenhauer calls "3rd-person knowledge," I call "fact," and what he calls "1st-person knowledge," I call "interpretation"... but maybe I'll have to think about it some more... thanks for making this video. :D
Great stuff. I just started reading Schopenhauer because of this. I wouldn't agree with everything he says but his epistemology and views and religion are pretty solid.
Your first few videos were exhilerating to watch but not that informative. I must congratulate you on combining your conventional style with a teacher's mien. It is both the information in the video and the dark music and images that make it so entertaining.
I agree about most of the stuff you have to say about the denfition of "first person knowledge" and "third person knowledge" But I think you're gonna have to try harder to convince me that the other dynamics (philosphies) don't affect this "order" by a larger degree than you maintain - can we not see from the ageing of the brain, it's development and damage that first person knowledge can be profoundly affected? What influence does the imperfection of even our 1st person knowlegde have onreality?
Another epic video from you Ontologistics. In addition to agreeing with Steve2323ZX's recommendation of Magee's book, I highly recommend Schopenhauer's collection of essays, the Parerga & Paralipomena as well.
Well, a priori knowledge is that prior to experience/perception (but this can include inner perception (Hume: 'Impressions of Reflection')). A posteriori knowledge is that gained from experience. If space, time and causality is the condition for experience, we can call it a priori knowledge.
Some philosophers (e.g. Descartes) thought that ideas such as God were a priori. This was refuted by Kant as sophistry.
Nice voice....

Unfortunately pronouncing it that way sounds a little too similar to a certain english word.

Absolutely FANTASTIC video. A great summary of Kant's Transcendental Idealism and a summary of Schopenhauer too.
Ive never read him, but I have read Nietzsche and Kant and its really interesting to see he appears to be a halfway point between the two.

So a-priori knowledge is first person knowledge. And how we precieve the first person world is third person knowledge. I think I understand.
