Yeah, this part of the novel where louis has the dream he save's his son's life from the orinco truck always made tears well up in my eyes. It has him getting to see his baby son gage grow up, go to college, and has this almost magical life where everything a parent hopes for their kid, only for him to see gage's baseball cap lying in the road full of blood, even in this wonderful sentimental dream, deep inside he knew gage was gone.
i dont understand how he could think time could alter a person comin back evil.his cat wasnt dead long before he found it n buried it in that indian burial ground,but still it came back evil.

@MrSFblack I don't think Church came back evil. He does nothing evil in the story. He seems creepy b/c we look at him through Loyis' eyes and/or b/c animals sense if a human doesn't like them. I think Church hung with Gage simply b/c it thought the boy was the one he had once known. He made Jud fall over by running past him, but that's what cats sometimes do. It was a wendigo, not Church himself, but I think the wendigo was evil only in human bodies. Hence, a cannibal spirit of a once human.
Well, comr to think again as it wasn't Church, it probably hung out with Gage because it had the same spirit inside it, but the point remains; Church didn't come back evil. :P

Instead of bringing back the dead kid, they should have just made another kid. That's what the early American settlers did.

@MrSFblack Thats because it came back possessed by an evil spirit. It wasnt Gage or Church it was their bodies but they were possessed.
