@tan8wh me262 is good for quick strikes and hit and run attacks with its fast jet engines and 4 30mm cannons. if an me262 has a lead on you, your fucked. but its not good for dogfighting because it is TOO fast. the me262 pilots felt like they outclassed the allied and russian pilots in those jets so they went into dogfights willingly but p-51's turned much better than 262's so if they tried to dogfight/turn fight they didnt stand a chance
Cool Vid dude!! one question: Is this a Documentary? if so, can you tell me the name or collection it's in?? i would really apreciate it! thanx in advance!!
@thelleht I've actually had some experience in simulators, and most of this seems to hold true. If you haven't played it, then get Pacific Fighters. Best WWII sim you could ask for.
@thelleht A common manuever: Corsair 1 chased by zero. Corsair 1 turns to cross by Corsair 2's nose, giving Corsair 2 a good guns shot. The 'no armor' policy on the Zero's was a beautiful choice. Such an addition to maneuverability made up for the lack of ruggedness as long as the Zero pilot was good enough to dodge the initial shots. Such a maneuver isn't hard to teach. After that, all it really took was just pulling on the joystick until you were behind your enemy.
@thelleht your only big choice was to just keep going to put a good 4 miles between you and the zero, turn around and try to shoot him down again face to face, or rather "nose cone to nose cone."
What I meant by precise coordination between multiple american planes to down a single zero, was to describe that multiple american planes allowed for a kill even in a turning fight, without the time taken to put 4+ miles between you and him.....(continued
@thelleht Mainly when you have a plane that turns faster than all others in the world at the time, it doesn't take much thought. Other less tight turning planes have to think about high and low yo-yo's, other maneuvers, and advanced speed management to keep himself geometrically behind the other aircraft in position for a guns kill.
The real only big opportunities to shoot down a zero came from before the merge, when the aircraft typically face eachother. If a kill didn't come there...(continued
From what i know they were so HARD to shoot down beacause they had no armour. Having no armour meant the plane was lighter and much more agile then the first american planes. And besides no armour meant that the plane was cheaper to produce and more planes like this could be made.
@Starfoxleader007 They actually had so much agility that it was quite the opposite if you didn't shoot them down before the merge. The loss of armor is a small repercussion compared to the increased ease to get into a good shooting position on your enemy aircraft. Such a small turning radius led to an astounding advantage in dogfights. There was so much of an advantage that it took the precise coordination of multiple American planes to down a single zero.
in the fist time of the war in Pacific, the japanes Zero was a redoubtable machine VS american's planes...Moreover, it's not the machine who fight : it's his pilot ; for example, the first japanese ace had 104 victories (Hiroyoshi Nishizawa), and for the most famous of all american aces (in Pacific) "just" 28 (Gregory Boyington).
And it's also the same thing with american and german aces...It's just propaganda and stupid vanity on behalf of the Americans. It's disappointing From their part...
No,No what i ment is not about the pilot its the plane you see in the video the F-4U Corsair shot it down I got shot down in the game in the zero just 5 shots
A big reason why American aces have less kills, is that they were rotated out to train new pilots. Axis pilots flew until they were wounded or killed in action.
No problem. I'm quite proud of my country, and the feats our pilots accomplished during the war. I won't say they were the best of the best, though. Not when we have pilots like Saburo Sakai, Erich Hartmann, and the Star of Africa. Besides, the FW-190-D is superior to the Mustang in dogfight, at least that's what I believe.
While there are some other things to consider, too - I agree with you.
Don't forget some other very good japanese planes i.e. the Kawasaki ki-61 or the Nakajima ki-84... excellent aircraft with apparently more armor than zeros and (especially the 84) bomber-knocking firepower.
ZEKES were fearsome machine BEFORE or during EARLY PART of the war but once they were studied, recon & scrutinized they bocome immediately inferior machines. Remember the GREAT MARIANA TURKEY SHOOT. Guess WHO are the TURKEY?
Destruction Preventer would be good for a Atom Bomb Music Video, wouldn't it? Man... Tony Kakko makes some of the best songs for almost any subject. War, Love, Politics... just awesome, the man is like a God of Power Metal.
Great video and you picked a great song too. Out In The Fields is very true too, listen to the lyrics. It tells the truth about the past and future if mankind cannot learn that War is a last resort. It should be prevented at all costs, not hailed as a good way to gain money/power.
Also- I love the Hellcat footage especially. Haha, those Japanese Zero Fighter Planes never saw it comming until it was too late for anything else accept: DEATH. Military History Channel and Sonata Arctica FTW.
Must I remind people that the Japanse scored many hits with their Zekes. The Ferrousity of the Zekes in action, especially against Bombers and the slower fighters. Weaponry, Ammo and Speed is what the Zeke had that made them fearsome
well.. at 0:53, i think its a episode abt the sinking of the Japanese Navy.. or something like that.. At 2:57 its my favorite, "Dogfights - No Room For Error" Hope this helps you. :)
"Out in the Fields" was a rock track by Gary Moore and ( the late great )Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame. Out in 1985 it got to No.5 in the UK charts as I recall. Great track..gets the heart pumping.
and i agree with you both star fox and @tan

Its a history channel CGI. They're good at making epic cinematic CGI airplane battles.
I want them to start making fictional dogfights, just to make more amazing footage for videos like this.

Do you know why things go like that. Because there were American pilots three times more than japanese pilots...
Thats why japanese had more kills, but kill ratio was almost the same.

American pilots fought in shifts though, German and Japanese pilots flew until they died, accounting for the ridiculous amount of kills.

Might be cus they weren't meant to be fighting.
Footage were taken from history channels dogfights series , episode was kamikaze attacks.
They were pretty stripped of anything meant only for pluming into something with either torpedoes or bombs. They had escort of real zero's tho
