I still definitely beleive in an "almighty" so to say..
but I do personally believe that most religions are about the same. Do good (Love one another, obey ur parents, respect the earth that we walk, etc.) and do not do bad (Dont Kill, Cheat, steal, etc.). And You can find these views in just about every belief. See I believe we were all made in the likes of someone and weather or not you want to call it Jah, Allah, or God. We all look like eachother, and are all raised with the basic thought...
Im just saying when are the athiest, christians, muslums, jews, rastas, mormens and everyone else just follow their beleifs instead of bashing on others. I mean religious fights are common, and have been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years, but I see everyone now adays being so concerned with what the rest of the world is they lose track of their own paths. now i mean my roots are in Catholicism, but i am not part of the church or do i feel any extreme need to be.
You are not alone in this. Scientologists did not invent religious 'disconnection' from relatives, it has a long history in Christianity & other religious where the main theme is "us vs them" ideology. Coming from an evangelical background & having been the target of my own relatives for not towing the religious line as they do, they don't talk to me much nor include me in anything. It's not an official declaration of cutting me off, but their behavior accomplishes the same thing.

In it, Matt Dillahunty talks about how it kills him that christians have abandoned relationships with him because they are so duped by their religion. It really struck a chord with me and how I feel about my own family. It's like they are so duped by this idea that it is more important than the love of their family. Religion sucks man. I want my family back.
Wow. I got a similar email from my husbands aunt. Her first message was about abortion? and not listening to what people tell me because if they are not christian, they are LYING. I responded as politely as possible, but told her that was absolute bull. Then I said I dont talk religion with family because it brings only hurt feelings. She went on a long rant about sending me a bible and talking to her pastor. I got really rude and she still doesnt understand why.
Haha...this reminds me of my family. I have to keep my atheism secret for the sake of my mother. I revealed it once and it didn't go well. I eventually had to tell her I was lying. I was an atheist from day one. You see, I was raised in the catholic school system since kindergarten. They told me that Adam and Eve were the first two people that made everyone. Not even a kindergarteners could find logic in that. It shows how fast religion is dying off. I am 18 years old now and finally out of that system. I am now happy and free of religion.
Another reason why religion is a blight on society. It pins family against each other when one is a believer and the other is not. How silly is that? When an adult will ostracize a family member over something that is completely unfounded and lacking evidence.
It reminds me when my Sis said to me when I came out as an atheist to her, "We have no reason to help you, because muslims are brothers and sisters to each other,".
And i answered, "You're still my Sister. I love you, as long as you don't preach on me of this Islam shenanigans anymore. Even though you don't consider me as your bro, I still see you as my Sis. If the religion wants us separated, i guess it's the religion that separates us,"

Now I won't talk to her, as she has really gotten on my nerves due to her religion. I'm glad you stated to your aunt you love her. @j919or I'm not saying abortion is good. It's terrible, but without it it would become an uncontrollable chaos and unsafe (ie back yard abortions, unintelligent people giving them, etc). There are too many issues surrounding it that it's impossible to not allow it. Unfortunately we can't limit this right to those most in need of this (ie, rape, incest, woman's life) and people can lie anyways. My mother was radical about the situation. Didn't understand the reality of it. And stopped speaking

but I do personally believe that most religions are about the same. Do good (Love one another, obey ur parents, respect the earth that we walk, etc.) and do not do bad (Dont Kill, Cheat, steal, etc.). And You can find these views in just about every belief. See I believe we were all made in the likes of someone and weather or not you want to call it Jah, Allah, or God. We all look like eachother, and are all raised with the basic thought...

Scientologists did not invent religious 'disconnection' from relatives, it has a long history in Christianity & other religious where the main theme is "us vs them" ideology. Coming from an evangelical background & having been the target of my own relatives for not towing the religious line as they do, they don't talk to me much nor include me in anything. It's not an official declaration of cutting me off, but their behavior accomplishes the same thing.

In it, Matt Dillahunty talks about how it kills him that christians have abandoned relationships with him because they are so duped by their religion. It really struck a chord with me and how I feel about my own family. It's like they are so duped by this idea that it is more important than the love of their family. Religion sucks man. I responded as politely as possible, but told her that was absolute bull. Then I said I dont talk religion with family because it brings only hurt feelings. Haha...this reminds me of my family. I have to keep my atheism secret for the sake of my mother. I revealed it once and it didn't go well. I eventually had to tell her I was lying. Dusty, I know exactly the type of bullshit you're dealing with. A similar story: On Facebook I made "Iscariot" as my middle name, and my aunt deleted me because of it. She then told my mother, so I eventually had to take it out. I then found my aunt and blocked her, and blocked the remaining religious relatives. :D

I can kindof relate, dude. I remember years ago (& this was when I was still calling myself Christian), I didn't feel like going to church one particular day. In front of my parents & grandfather, my grandmother called me a devil worshipper. It was either that or Satanist, but either way it blew me out of the fuckin pond too.
Just thankful I have immediate family where my family is Christian still, but my mom is like each to their own (tho I think my sister's on the atheist path...).

Awwww, that was cute. Religion is so divisive, and I have my own differences with a niece of mine who I used to love. Now I won't talk to her, as she has really gotten on my nerves due to her religion. I'm glad you stated to your aunt you love her. My niece didn't understand that that was my motivating force behind the information I gave her about her Catholicism, and the grotesque actions and beliefs of her church and leaders.

I am a believer of Christ and I can tell you that this woman, your aunt, is definitely NOT behaving in a manner conducive to what it is her Bible says for her to behave. She is full of bologna, pointing fingers at you in the name of the Lord...Wow!

man, when i dropped the veil of religion from around my eyes, life felt like one awesome buzz. because you realize you live in a world of infinite possibilities. but it did add some worry. as now i see that religion has penetrated our everday lives very deeply. its kind of unsettling when you realize how many people believe these crazy fairy tale stories are true. but i guess thats just one of the infinite possibilities i believe we have now.
