  • Really nice layout for sure! I used to live in Phoenix, and used to go to Websters Hobby shop and looked at the Model Railroading magazines, and dreamed of building a layout.....but only dreamed. But you took action, and made a real difference, thank you for sharing! Now living in the Northwest, will have to check out the new building, via Google Earth.

  • @KindCreature1 Thanks for the nice words. The new building has only been there a couple of years. Hopefully Google Earth has caught up.

  • Very nice layout. But slow the freight trains down a little, you can't have them going the same speed as the Amtrak train... Just isn't right, But a very nice layout indeed.

  • @jroush2448 Got it.

  • i might even have to try to join in on some ops ive always loved working on a model railroad

  • @shadowdemon46 Sure, They'd probably love to have you participate.

  • well i know were to go on vacations now

  • @shadowdemon46 Thanks. We have a lot of snowbirds here now on vacation for the winter, so come on down!

  • Very nice layout well filmed and a good background comment. Thumbs up!

  • @megatwingo Thanks for the very nice comment. The club members are a talented group of guys and fun to work with.

  • I live next to Sun City in Peoria and would like to know where you are , or when you have open houses or viewings. Maybe interested in becoming a member

  • @4gkidsplusBabs The layout is in a Recreation Center at the corner of 107th Ave and Peoria. It's in the big building with all the other activities. Mornings are best with Wednesdays being a pretty sure thing. I think you have to be a Sun City resident to belong to the club but definitely ask about becoming a member when you are there.

  • Nice layout

but pleace drive slower its unreal

    Greatings from germany

sorry, my english is under all pig :-)

  • Great layout, great detail. One comment though is your speeds are too high. Not realistic in that regard. Slow it down especially on the curves. You should do a calc on speed per foot and extrapolate to scale mph.

  • @raykar2 Understood, good point. I will get the controllers to slow down things in the future. I think they feel that too "slow" will not show well for the visitors.

  • Cool!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIZONA!!

  • @aricars6263 Thank you very much!! We had a big ceremony here today with the Governor and lots of dignitaries celebrating our first 100 years. Richard

  • How can anyone dislike this video it is an amazing layout. Great video. Thanks!

  • @clivej148 Thanks very much for the kind words. The club members are definitely a very talented bunch of guys. It makes taking a good video pretty easy with the level of workmanship they have on display. Richard

  • @clivej148 I know that's what im wondering to its a amazing layout

  • Amazing layout. Great video. Thanks!

  • @iruntrains For all of you who have complimented the video, thanks very much! It has been a lot of fun meeting the club members and documenting what they are doing. Richard

  • Model Railroad wonderful. A well done video. Congratulations.

  • Very cool. I wouldnt mind one of these in a room in my house. Must keep alot of guys whom are retired away from their wifes :) Thats a good thing. hehe

  • Very fun video. That sounds like a fine place to retire.

  • @MMODoubter It has been fun for me videoing the Club's layout. The level of workmanship makes it easy. With groups like this around, Sun City is a good place to retire as well. Richard

  • Really loved the video, look forward to seeing updates

  • Just love this kinda stuff :)

  • Is this an N scale?

  • @danielll342 The layout is HO scale.

  • I don't to burst Sun City Arizona Model Railroad Club but there is some missing detail and not very realistic however they do have a working layout so they can have fun

  • @atsfft103 Thanks. The Club members tell me that the layout is always a work in progress, never really done and always being improved. I guess this keeps them busy.

  • Subbed. Very impressive and lots of inspiration for my Kent & North Wales Light Railway!

  • @KandNWLR Glad you found it useful. Take a look at my update videos for the new layout for even more possible ideas. Richard

  • But the trains were going a tad to fast

  • @modernwarfare26233 Indeed. I'll get them to slow down in future videos. Check out my Sun City Model Railroad Cub updates and see if they are an improvement in this regard.

  • FInally SOMEONE TALKS IN a train video ;)

  • @modernwarfare26233 Thanks. Actually, I talk in all my train videos. You can visit my channel and find more talking train videos.

  • This is very beautiful.

  • @eivissano Thank you for the kind words. The club members do very good work.

  • i like it , very nice layout . wish i was there playing

  • what system is used to control all of this?

  • @MrJwarren95 I'll have to get the specifics from the club members but basically it is a wireless system wtih hand held controllers that control sound and movement through small microprocessors in the engines or coal tenders (for steam locos).

  • @rahaworth1 that would be called DCC...or Direct Command Control

  • @vettelover2009 Digital Comman control my friend.

  • @meguell3 yeah...i didn't mean direct...i was at work trying to type quickly...and put something completely off left field

  • One of the best American layouts ever. bravo

  • @strafrag1 Thanks very much. The new layout is also very good. They are still building but much of it is done. You can visit my You Tube channel to see the updates. Richard

  • Even though I love O Scale, You can get so much more out of an HO layout. Even on a 4by8 Space. And, the longer loco's look just right. I don't even consider HO to be small at all. It's really more in proportion. also like N Scale too. If you like large locomotives, I think these two scales are the way to go. Great Layout.

  • hey can i come there ? i wanna steal some trains!!!! >:)

no jk but can i have some

  • Great video, super video. Would love to say more, but can't find the words.

    THANK YOU

  • @LEGITTER Your kind words are much appreciated. Thanks!

  • @rahaworth1 I used to have HO gauge but I'm moving slowly but surely up to O gauge

  • What scale is it

  • @griffindor823 The main Sun City Model Railroad Club layout is HO gauge.

  • @rahaworth1 Should phrase that HO 'Scale' rather than HO gauge. Models are scaled to the prototype. Gauge is the distance between the inner sides of the heads of the rails on the real thing. Nice layout though!

  • @griffindor823 It is HO scale.

  • Congratulation..... congratulation.....

  • @tecuinita Thanks very much for the kind words. You can see three update videos on the new layout at my You Tube channel.

  • Sweet layout! Me and my dad have platforms to put our trains, thought not as massive as some of these layouts, it gets pretty creative. The H&O out on the porch and mine which is O sideways in the living room. I am up to 3 locomotives and 2 cabooses.

  • @Showgirl7able Thanks for the nice comment. Sounds like you are having fun with your two railroads. O gauge is a bit more of a challenge space wisej than HO. I am editing two videos now that are of a G gauge layout here in NW Phoenix. I'll have the editing done soon so you can look at an outdoor railroad if you want to.

  • @rahaworth1 I gotta see! G is plenty expensive too, but sweet eye candy in the Hobby store!

  • that first one with the Bachmann UP Greyhound Scheme 4-8-4 engine.... i use to have one :O

  • Very nice layout wow

  • @stormrider620331 Thanks for the nice words. You can see progress on the new layout on my update videos on my channel. It is just as impressive in its own way. Richard

  • I think someone should make a futuristic model railroad

  • @Hetierd - I think you should give it a go.

  • thumbs up if u live in arizona

  • that is awesome id love to do this but being im in a rental house for the next year or 2 until i can afford a down payment on a house id hate to start something and have to tear down to move and in the town i live there is not much in the way of people into hobbys like this i have to order everything for my model cars online being theres not a single hobby shop in any of the towns around me hell we only have 1 walmart nearby and its in kansas im in nebraska lol

  • @SuBN01z3RaT but im subscribing to your channel i love the videos

  • @SuBN01z3RaT Understood on your location. All I can tell you is these guys are more than williing to share their expertise. So if you can get to a model railroad club you can probably find tons of good advise there.

  • @SuBN01z3RaT Greetings from Winnipeg, Canada.

I am in a similar position- I'm slowly renovating my basement and can't start my layout for at least several months. I've been spending the past year building structures. Like you I'm on a tight budget. Most of my buildings are scratch-built from either sheet plastic or Mattboard (much better than cardstock).

ps- I've been very happy ordering from Hobbylinc -they're one of the cheapest I've found

  • @gaza2421 thanks ill have to try to make a building like that dont have much in the way of tools or anything for this kind of stuff most any spare money ive had has gone into automotive tools and the move to where im at cost me a decent amount of money setting me back but if i can do a decent job making my own buildings and stuff that should help me get by while i figure out what to do for laying out and inbetween money for purchasing tracks and cars

  • @SuBN01z3RaT Not much needed for tools for the mattboard houses... mattboard, hobby knife & sharp blades, white glue & some square pieces of wood to rienforce corners & walls. I've come up with some templates on Autocad of some houses & some small buildings. Send me a message with your e-mail & I can send you the PDF file... just print & go

  • @gaza2421 oh hell i have that stuff then haha and will do

  • hi friend greetings.

    how I can do that?

help me please. I really liked your video.

  • @0nxgold Hello, Are you asking about the video itself or the train layout?

  • Nice layout with alot of detail and thought, thanks for sharing

  • @McClain808 and others, Thank you to all three of the last commenters. The nice words are much appreciated. I will pass your comments on to the club members. Richard

  • awesome!

  • Nice Video. I had a train when I was a kid . I would like to start another at some point.

  • I love this kind of stuff so much, the minute attention to detail and just the simple things make models and set ups like this so realistic and enjoyable to watch. I can almost imagine some guy sitting or standing outside having a smoke behind the red building that comes into focus at about 50 seconds in. Amazing, good job :)

  • @MutantHippie Glad you like the video. It is easy for me to get drawn into the minature world they are creating there. I will try and capture that feeling in my next videos. It will be easier to pull that off when the construction is completed. Richard

  • @rahaworth1 I have subscribed so I shall keep an eye open for your next video. Have you ever thought of doing something like a naval dockyard or something with a water feature? For some reason I really like this kind of thing if there is water involved.

  • @MutantHippie I live in Arizona in the desert so there is not too much access to naval dockyards or water for that matter. So, for now anyway, I will probably be limited to trains.

  • i call it a railway!! lol

  • @245Harry I would too but the members of the club want me to use their official name in what I post on You Tube. Is that what you were talking about? Richard

  • Very nice system, great to see these u.s trains

  • I have posted another update to the Club's construction progress wth the new layout. It is update number 3. It can be found on my channel. I cannot get the actual link to be acceped in this comments section. Try it in full screen mode. I changed the videoing technique to have more flexibility with the camera. Comments are welcome on that approach. Thanks for looking.

  • Hello,

I have to admit, a very nice piece of lay out. I am setting up my own layout. I saw there was running a engine of the cotton belt railroad with SSW on his snoot. Can you tell me what type it is and what brand?

    Thank you very much,

    Vossing Olivier, Belgium

  • I just posted the 2nd update showing the progress through June 2011 on the new layout. I haven't figured out how to put a link to it here but you can search my videos to find it. The new layout is really coming along nicely. Richard

  • @rahaworth1 Super - Video.

    Free - Willy (Switzerland)

  • I wrote to you guys before. I love the layout! very nice. I have new digital engines and transformer, it will run up to 7 engines. I have engines that cost 100's of bucks. they r dcc equiped, the older ones I installed a chip so it will run with the digital transformer. Digital is really nice, trains start from a crawling start to scale speed, I love it. It is so realistic. Lots of fun. Like I said i'm still a big kid at heart!!

  • Agreed. And thankfully this deer was in a very cooperative mood.

  • 04harlow, Thanks for the very nice comments. I have another update on the new layout that I will have on You Tube by week's end. You will like the level of detail in the new layout too. Look at both updates to get an idea of the progress (and the amount of work involved).

  • As a boy i grew up in Germany, and Marklin trains. Fell in love with model trains since I was 9 yrs old. Am 61 now and still love the hobby. Think we all have a little boy left in us. They became to expensive for me after I moved to the US. I changed to Bachmans. Your layout is one of the nicest I have seen. Most look to toy like . You have lots of real looking detail, which is very nice. The best so far.

  • nice video and amazing layout,..i hope in indonesia railroad community can follow your club and make it became sample. thanks alot

  • can anyone please give me some tips on how to make some fake snow??

  • lol i see macdonalds

  • Ah actually, the engine house you mention is the roundhouse which is used for working on the locomotives and sometimes rolling stock and is not normally used for storage as you mention in the video. But hey, that's how we learn and it's a great video. Were you actually selling the idea of folks joining the club or pitching to sale real estate in the area? Wasn't real sure with that last added comment of yours? Thanks for sharing the video.

  • @walkerbelle : Thanks for your comment and the compliment on the video. Actually, I was doing both with the video. My real estate company encourges us to do community type videos and this was one of those. But, I admit to being a closet model railroader and I have loads of fun visiting the Club. Actually I was there yesterday shooting vidoe and will have a 2nd update posted shortly. They are making awesome progress and are doing very good work.

  • Wow! Fantastic layout. Bodger would love it there.

  • Super Anlage tolle Züge

    Gruß aus Germany

  • You don't need to be retired to have a model railroad! It's not just the hobby of the elderly!

  • You don't need to be retired to have time for hobbies!

  • Awesome vid, I would love to have a model Railroad some day, but for now I just don't have the money to do it. What scale of model railroading do you recommend, which is the cheapest? Just from looking at my local hobby stores here, it seems HO Scale is the cheapest.....what scale would you recommend?

  • .......wow very nice.....thanks for sharing

  • Beautiful.

  • I have a big model train setup but not nearly as big as this on

  • I am not exactly sure on the costs of trains but I recently bought a steam locomotive and four cars for $20 from the club. They were selling it (and others) because it did not have control electronics in it which they are using in the new layout.

  • @rahaworth1 WOW! Wish I was in Arizona to get that deal

  • Thats a very cool lay out! How much does just one of those trains cost?

  • Impressive! well done!!

  • Thanks for the kudos. The money largely comes from the members and donations from supporters. All the rest is volunteer hours and expertise. Every time I visit there, I learn something about layout design, landscaping, electronics etc. It is a good group of guys.

  • Not really my cup of tea, but I have to give you guys props! The amount of time, effort and money it must take to do this. Looks very nice.

  • Um... Wouldn't that essentially be a digital layout? Or are you guys operation on the old conventional block method?

  • @prognosis2001

I am not entirely sure of the technical details but I think the original layout was the block method with some modifications. The NEW layout will be completely digital (see my update video(s)).

  • Outstanding! Much larger than the Sun City Center layout in Florida.

  • @liv2ridehd Thanks for the nice comment. Be sure and stop by when you are out this way.

  • ive been here!.......many years ago

  • Model railroads are cool but it would need it to something useful, like run to my mail box or deliver drinks from an automated fridge dispenser....

  • This is amazing! Great work! I love it!

  • OMG JUST BEAUTY!! IM FALL IN LOVE...

  • i have that same Santa Fe controll tower on my layout at 3:07

  • A lot of traffic

  • @daviddodgechallenger: Indeed! It has been very gratifying.

  • We need more!!!!!!! Excellent work!!!! Send more soon!!!

  • @chiefcharley04 I'll have another update in a month or so. I have been back twice and they are making nice progress. I'll have enough video in 30 days or so to do another video.

  • AWESOME Layout!!!! Your viewers might enjoy seeing the latest in DCC engines at Railroad Junction site on youtube. I will be posting the latest DCC engines that are released EACH MONTH. Subscribe and get the monthly updates. I've subscribed to BLMA as well, as your videos and products I buy ROCKS!

  • This thing is beautiful... It should be considered an art, not just a hobby.

  • I just uploaded the first update on the Sun City Arizona Model Railroad Club's new layout.

  • a very good railway system, with interesting models

  • @luccaopa

Thanks for the nice comments. I will have an update video posted in a couple of days. They are making progress with the new layout. It is fascinating watching it come together. Its quite a project.

  • I'm sorry, but 1:16 is kinda funny. GIANT THUMB TACK BY THE TRACKS! AHHHHH!!!! hahaha

  • @a65232 Thanks for viewing the video. Yes I know. I asked them about the thumb tack and they said it was holding the whole layout together and couldn't be removed.

  • @rahaworth1 Ah. Good old American Engineering... Nice layout, though.

  • @a65232 Thanks for the compliment. I'll relay it to the clubmemebers..

Also, I'll have a video of progress on the new Club layout up for viewing in about a week.

  • Great shot of the multiple trains! And quite an impressive layout. I'd love to make something similar when I'm older.

  • @Zhaboka Thanks for the nice comments. It was fun shooting the video and meeting all the club members. Look for my update video on the new layout in about a week.

  • I love the train set but why did u need to move it, I like it the way it is.

  • The building where they are currently is scheduled to be torn down when everyone is moved into the new building, so the club needs to move the layout.

  • What is this "special safety system" installed? Do trains stop at red lights?

Sorry. I know like nothing about model trains. I can see the appeal, but I cannot see dedicating rooms of my house to it like some people do.

  • No red lights but sensors track where the trains are and prevent collisions by stopping trains when there is a chance of collision and then allowing them to proceed when the way is clear.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. Hopefully construction begings on the new layout in a couple of weeks.

  • really nice layout, the tunnel below the other track at 2:50 was very cool.

  • looks like a great layout. I really look forward to seeing the construction of the new layout and seeing it step by step.

  • Thank you for the compliment. Hopefully we can start videoing the construction phase in a week or two.

  • That is one awesome layout. The best one I have seen here on Youtube

  • Thank you very much for the nice comment. I have forwarded it to the Railroad Club President.

  • Thank you for the nice comment.

I spoke with the Club President and the new building has not received its Certificate of Occupancy from the County. They are probably four weeks away from being able to get into the new space. I am going to video the construction of the new layout, so you should be able to follow it on You Tube once they get started.

  • Great video and awesome model train layout. Has the move to the new space begun?

  • Yes, I did. I found a fix to my low audio level and thought it would be a good idea to re-narrate it and get it up on You Tube.

I may have to do it again as I have some additional video I can include.

  • Did you remove this video and re-post it?
