  • Great old machine. To address some comments below about the "nail" ... those steel needles are manufactured specifically to play those old shellac records. And even then, should only be used one or two times and discarded. Steel needles should not be used on the later 78s -- from maybe the late 1930s onward. They should be played on a better quality record player with a much lighter pickup. There are many, many internet sources for this information. Google away!

  • WOw brian, you still have that? I had one of those, well my mother's phonograph. but we threw it out. I wish i still had it. lol

  • You know, you shouldn't play with the speed while the phonograph plays, it might damage the record. Also, use a needle only for one song, or a disk, then change it.

  • "that little thing" is a reproducer which catches the sound and it is amplified down the arm to the larger horn or speaker... very nice though... fix it up dude!!!!

  • god! they are not nails.

  • settle down. friend. They are not NAILS, but to the modern DJ using a diamond tip needle, they might as well be a nail.

  • lol damn it's interesting and funny [somehow] and I want this oldskoolthingy too^^

  • when you slow that down can you put on a 33 or a 45 and play those i know thats a 78RPM unit but with the speed controll and maybe the correct needle you can play 33's or 45s on it

  • Oh sure. Problem is the Needle cuts thru "contemporary" vinyl (anything made in the last 60+ years) like some kind of wood lathe.

  • oh I see but you can properly balance the needle so its not cutting into it i dunno, ill stick with my iPod lol

  • No balancing with these units. There is no counter weight. You get what you get which is a LOT of down pressure!

  • Okay

  • So much the tracking is measured in ounces than grams. Edison records use an 8 ounce weight, I beleive. The vinyll would have problems because it would dig in and cause the machine to stop, I have tried.

  • what the fuck!

  • Sweet!

  • hey I think that baby has quicker pickup than my 1200's. You think? :) nice vid man!

  • HA! That's a science experiment for next week. We'll put them up against one of my 1200s and then the Deca.

  • That thing is crazy, xS You should rock it at a gig, xD

  • Great vid! Nice to see some really classic stuff!

  • coolness!!! lol imagine being a mobile dj 90 years ago with 2 of these in the back of your van :D

  • ha ha!! 90 years ago a mobile dj probably put two of those on the back of his horse and cart

  • steam powered horses!!!

  • Out of all your turntables''This has got to be the best you have bye far lol

    I live it

  • Moral of the story: never lend anything else to your sister!

  • your sis is a bad girl broke your Old sckool A Track, you should spank her but good!

  • nice phonograph. My grandmother had a huge 78rpm unit in her basement. We used to play the old albums and rollerskate around there to it. DIY Rollerrink ;)
